Indiana Jones V - Part 1

In all honesty if Liam Neeson is still running around doing this ****, Ford can eke one more out.

Quite a difference between ages of 63 and 73, honestly. If we thought Ford might have been pushing it with the last Indy film, imagine what it'll be like to watch a 75 or 76-year-old Ford running around in a new Indy film -- because that's how old he'd be by the time a new Indy film gets off the ground.

I mean, at a certain point, one just has to say that "enough is enough". Make another one with Ford in a Henry Sr. type of role, but I think the time has passed for another full-fledged Indiana Jones adventure starring Harrison Ford as Indy.

Yeah but Disney didn't pay a ton for Lucasfilm to let the franchise sit around.
It wasn't just Star Wars they bought.

Indy was just collateral in that purchase. Yeah, they can and probably will do something with it but the focus was always Star Wars. There are way more directions to go with Star Wars as a franchise than with Indy.

Correct, and also, a lot more money to be made with SW.

I think you reboot the series with a younger take. Still a period piece. I wouldn't Casino Royale the thing, but if anything, just James Bond it. Loose continuity, different artifacts. You can play anywhere from the 1920's to the 1950's. There is no way Hollywood is just going to let this cash cow sit idle. Get an actor who can do it for 4-5 movies, then wait another 10-15 years, and reset the thing again, 3-4 movies.

Otherwise do a legacy movie, with explorers from the 19th centuries and what not, that preceded Indy. Or bring Indy to a contemporary audience, although I think National Treasure stole a little bit of that thunder and are there any realistic artifacts you can go exploring for in the 21st century that wouldn't look completely out of touch? The Steve Jobs first iMac in Wozniak's garage? I think you'd have trouble modernizing Indy, unlike Bond.

Yeah, I'd keep Indy in the 1920s-1950s. There's plenty of room there for him to have other adventures.

IMO Bradley Cooper would be a perfect replacement if they went that route. For some reason he's always reminded me of a young Ford.

I don't care about the age. I care that an older Indy is in a different era so can't fight Nazis. My favourite Indy movies are the first and third and I suspect that is because those movies he fights Nazis and in the other 2 movies he is fighting villains I couldn't care less about.

“I don’t think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen,” he said in an interview with Screen International that will be published Friday (Dec 4).

“It’s certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into his shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman. There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford.”

“Because there are more adventures out there than films,” said the filmmaker, who turns 69 on Dec 18. “So as long as there’s more adventures out there, I’ve got a bullwhip, a fedora, a leather jacket and a man on a horse who knows how to get the job done.”

Sure, Spielberg wouldn't. But Disney has no problem with it when they would need to make the $.

They won't let the franchise collect dust. Not with so many fanboys out there who would gladly pony up the cheddar.

That's the thing. Disney doesn't need Indy. They aren't as thirsty for a franchise like other studios because they already have cash cows like Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, "Frozen", etc. If Indy was at Fox or Sony, you can bet that they'd have released a new one by now. Sure, Disney could always use more money, but I don't think they're worried about that when they own Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, etc.

And when they would need him, Ford will be too old. And Spielberg won't make an Indy film without Ford so they've already won.

Yeah, Disney even waited for years before making more films in Billion grossing franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean and Alice. That said, they did fast track Star Wars films once they got control over the franchise.

If this does happen, I'd say they'll probably have Ford in the Sean Connery role and then recast his son with someone like Pratt to carry the franchise on, passing the torch type situation.

Based on Spielberg's comments I can't see Disney over-ruling Spielberg until he's probably passed-on in all honesty.

The only way I can see the franchise going is with Indiana Jones' son (or even daughter, you never know) carrying on the torch. Whoever they cast as his son though, I hope it is not Shia "I'm not famous anymore" LeBeouf.

If they have a new protagonist why does that person have to be related to Indiana Jones?

I'd watch it in a heartbeat. Plus it could lead to a blockbuster action adventure franchise with an Asian protagonist that isn't a martial arts based character.

Short Round was 13 in 1935, so hypothetically we'd have him in 1960's Cold War era Russia hunt artefacts with Dr. Jones. get Neil Marshall, Jet Li and Harrison Ford and you've got a flick.

So he won't recast Indy, but he's fine with rebooting Jaws and Back to the Future.

Hypocrite.:o
