Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 3

Now they have to do a Counterstrike movie and open in Korea and they'll make all that **** back in one go.

So I guess a sequel isn't completely out of question.

dat china money
The Duncan Jones-helmed fantasy actioner has logged 136 rmb ($20.7M) in advance ticket sales as of Monday evening locally and currently has the third-highest midnight pre-sales total of all time, behind Furious 7 and Avengers: Age Of Ultron; it will pass the latter today. All of the 285 midnight Imax screenings have been sold out at 5.5M rmb ($837K); that tops record holder Furious 7’s 5.4M rmb ($822K at today’s exchange rates). Midnights kick off Tuesday night.

See, hard numbers is the way to sell advance buzz for advance ticket purchases.

That stuff confuses me. So is it actually less, but because of the exchange rate?

Pretty much. It looks like a dollar is getting .3 more CYR than when Furious 7 released. It's about a $48 thousand difference (870 last year vs 822 this year).

As the foreign market grows, the exchange rate does become more important. I mean, I think Avatar will have an issue making it's foreign take purely on exchange rates.

China is always the wildcard in box office predictions. I can't say it doesn't make things interesting.

Maybe the sequel will go full China-pandering like Transformers 4.

We've got a consensus:

"Warcraft has visual thrills to spare, but they -- and director Duncan Jones' distinctive gifts -- are wasted on a sluggish and derivative adaptation of a bestselling game with little evident cinematic value."

They could have made such a cool Warcraft movie. There is so much lore there to explore. Going back to the invasion of the Burning Legion certainly could have worked, but it seems to me this is another movie that went for style over substance.

Personally I think the most dramatic story to tell would have been Arthas but because that was covered in Warcraft III and Wrath of the Litch King, maybe they thought it would be too familiar.

When Sam Raimi at one time was attached to this project, my hope was that they would come up with an original story.

Movies based on Video games have a pretty spotty history, with probably Mario Brothers being the most infamous among those.

However I think Assasin's creed may break that trend. Crossing my fingers that one is good!

The film isn't without it's charms. But there are many problems with it. Sloppy narrative and editing, shoehorned romance, cliched dialogs, total miscast of the alliance side, inconsistent production quality, dull soundtrack. The world and characters seem to be intriguing, but execution is lacking.

I hope the sequel happens and they learn from mistakes. It's only the beginning and there are plenty exciting things ahead.

I have no interest in this movie, but the box office is going to be fun to watch. It is sounding like it is going to be a monster in China.

Maybe all the folks that were working in sweat shops playing the game 24/7 straight gold farming really liked the game. ;)

Warcraft Tops Furious 7's Midnight Showing Numbers
WARCRAFT earned est. ¥55.4M ($8.4M) from Tuesday midnight screenings, tops Furious 7's all-time midnight record.

I saw that Jamie Lee Curtis dressed up as an orc to go to the premiere.

So there's that.

She showed up at Evo in cosplay as well. I think her son competed. So it isn't that weird for her. :funny:

seeing the ads for this movie, it looks like a cheap ripoff of Lord of the Rings

^i think the movie looks mediocre but it looks literally nothing like lord of the rings

I've never played the games but is there even a story or is it more of a lore? Because if it was just a lore, they had an opportunity to come up with their own story and pick and choose elements to fit their story as they pleased.
