Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 3

Well they have a pretty short time to enjoy all this good press for the box office because that ain't gonna last much longer. I love how it's all impressive now but then when the domestic totals come in it's going to be a totally different tune.
Granted, I don't pretend to be an expert on box office numbers and whatnot, but no matter how bad it will bomb in the US, it's still going to make some money, isn't it? And those money, unimpressive as they may be on their own, will just add to the overall total gross. I mean, again, I could be wrong and everything, I'm not an expert, but even a small US profit will only benefit strong overseas numbers, assuming that the studios are interested in the overall performance of the film instead of just in America. It's not like it will lose money there, it will just make small numbers.

Considering that The Mermaid amassed $500M in China, it's possible the international numbers will grant a sequel for Warcraft.
I hope it will, and I hope that IF they make a sequel, they will do better with some of the stuff that wasn't done very well like the character development.

I think character development was the problem with this film. I cared nothing for any of the characters and i think the editing was pretty bad just jumping from scene to scene. Im still keen for a sequel though. The CGI and action was great but the film lacked in story telling.

currently at about 165 million internationally, the 3 day total in china is around 90-92 million and the 5 day is predicted to be around 150 million

*crossing fingers*

I wanna see Illidan, dangit!

I just really want to see The Frozen Throne on screen.

The trick is the characters that most fans love: Illidan, Arthas, Jaina, Malfurion, Sylvanas; they all don't show up till W3. which sucks

IMO the story of the WC universe doesn't really get going until WC2 anyway. I always thought that the OG WC game story was bland. The only two characters in the movie that are currently in the game are Khadgar and Garona. AND they hugely different than their game counterparts

I am probably seeing this on like Monday or Tuesday. Can't make it this weekend, but the younger brother wants to see it so we are going.

Cool numbers. Sequel is getting closer. I'm all for that. I wanna see more.

The night elves looked disappointing. They looked more like humans in cosplay outfits and im pretty sure they're suppose to be taller than an average human.

Those were high elves (later on - blood elves). The night elves won't come into play until - and IF - they get to adapting WarCraft III's story.

Yes. I know. I'm a terrible geek. Well aware of it, just couldn't resist correcting you :o

But yeah, they looked kinda shabby. The dwarves looked quite fake too. Strange because I did like the look of the orcs, though the CGI was glaringly obvious.

So it already return budget. Nice. Now let's earn money for a sequel.

Keep in mind that in America, things comes go big and fizzle out faster than other countries. Like in South Korea, Starcraft is as popular as it was back in 2010. In America it's still popular but now we're over to new things like Overwatch, etc.

So franchises have more longevity in places like China, where people have died playing the damn game, so I'm not shocked that Warcraft is doing well over there.

I'm gonna watch this movie but I just wish they did a feature length cinematic.

That is not how that works. Why do people think that is how that works? We have like a million box office threads here. :funny:

I am joking a bit. I know movie needs to double the budget to get even.

Its not that simple either. Not all the profits go to the studio. International distributors, studios, theaters domestic and abroad, and others get cuts of the profits.

Yeah, far more complicated. That being said, if it makes 500m in China it should cover the cost. :funny:

Which is why China is going to work nicely for Warcraft. Legendary's parent company owns 6% of China's theaters.

I'll be curious about the American numbers. That'll be the real cue for whether or not we're looking at a sequel.

Nah, with the numbers China is putting up, that will be a much bigger determination than domestic. Remember, Legendary may still be a Hollywood studio, but it is owned by a Chinese company. Who is able to get more out of the Chinese market than say, WB or Fox.

China is why we are getting Pacific Rim 2, so I don't see why it can't support Warcraft.

How much is the movie tracking though? If it bombs domestically it could still spell trouble. That's probably not too likely, but it isn't carrying a lot of buzz thus far.

Not really. I have seen this assumption, but not any proof.

25m for opening weekend. It looks like it will make less then 100m domestically if that number is true.
