E3 2011 - Part 2

Nintendos other problem is they don't do enough of letting other, interesting developers handle their properties. Rare got to play with DK, Diddy Kong etc. Imagine if they actually let go of that control, the kind of games we could get. Metroid Prime was a great series, and it worked because they trusted other Devs who had a good vision. It seems like now they've lost faith in doing these things new, instead just releasing safe sidescrollers.

The price is going to be very very important. It looks like it's comparable to the PS3 and 360. Not better, though.

So...how much can they charge? They can't charge more than for a 360, even though it's a new "console" (...I guess). I don't even know about an HDD, which is usually what drives the price now. But, one of the biggest reasons that the Wii was a hit was because it was not as expensive as the competition.

Nintendo appears to be learning some lessons, though. Atleast that was my take away from the announcement and promises made for the WiiU. It's why something like Batman winding up on it sounds like they're learning. Having it in HD, also, is another thing that suggests that they may try to be more welcoming of hardcore gamers.

The other thing is New Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn and whatever other similar games i'm forgetting could ALL have been downloadable games for a more advanced console. Is it that much to expect something more high production for the fans who have loved these characters for 20 years? Why should they have to see other consoles get amazingly large, cinematic and MODERN games when they still get the same model for a game they've had for like 10 years.

Yeah, but even then ChrisBale, is anyone with an Xbox or PS3 going to buy the Wii 2 then get Batman? That sort of thing seems to only be an advantage for people who only have a Wii now, but even then they STILL have to buy the damn console. That's two consoles bought in 5 years just to keep up with something other gamers have already been playing since before the Wii even came out.

Families won't go for this tech if it's anything more than $350 because even parents are gonna know it will be outdated in soon. Also if it has tech like the PS3, this thing is gonna cost alot since Nintendo never sells any tech for a lost.

I think what would get me more interested in the WiiU if I hear about more cinematic exclusive games.

Hell, I'm buying a PS3 basically for MGS and the Uncharted series (and because I want a Blu Ray player)

I think that even more than the technology would bring in hardcore gamers if that's what Nintendo wants

I bought a PS3, basically, for Metal Gear Solid 4. I'm on my 13th playthrough.

I think that if they can promise gamers that they will have access to the same multiplatform games that hit the 360 and PS3, without it having to be completely different and graphically inferior, then more hardcore gamers will buy they're platform.

Now, they'll need to create more promise for they're exclusives. I continually hear about how Nintendo fans have been letdown with the Nintendo brand name titles, by them playing it safe.

Ok this is gonna sound like I'm lying or something. But I'm not. I actually have a friend who was at E3 and got to test out the WiiU.

He said that it's more powerful the 360 and ps3 graphically. The shading/lighting/textures are all close to modern day PC standards. He also said the most of the commotion initially from E3 people about it was about the pretty shoddy announcement overall. However, once people got to have an actual look at it.....they're very impressed.
He said the 'bird' demo was the most jaw dropping in a graphical sense. The Zelda demo was very pretty visually and using the controller does seem make the experience a lot more intuitive in Zelda. The controller weighs about the same as a DSlite or PSP, but feels very sturdy.

Thats pretty much all I got off him as it was an international call. You can choose to believe me or not, but theres no reason for me to make this up.

Nintendo is dead to me.

On a side note...I watched some of the Kinect videos...what a joke. The games didn't even show real gameplay!!!

I believe that, just not sure if i'd take his word about it being more powerful than the PS3 or 360. Several games journos have said just the opposite of that.

That is very true. Aside from a tablet for a controller (which I cannot wrap my mind around playing regularly with)...they didn't exactly seem to offer "the next step".

I mean, the only thing I can think of that they can do to make me want to buy the WiiU is providing current gen, modern HD versions of Zelda, Metroid, Super Mario and stuff from they're exclusives. If they had 720p or 1080p Zelda that has it's gameplay updated to 2011...I could see myself really being tempted by that, since it's the only console that can provide that specific franchise in that manner.

But you're right. It's an uphill battle for them since they're appearing to be a few years late to the "current-gen" party.

I believe you. And I even believe you're friend.

The thing is...it's currently a tech demo. Those are always impressive. But once you have the software in the console, and everything isn't being poured into the graphics anymore, since now they've got to spread things out into the gameplay and other things that come up aside from making the game look pretty...it would seem to me that it'd take a hit graphically and be comparable to what we've got now.

A few years late to the current gen, and also perhaps a few years too early to make the next gen, since new 360 and PS3 can't be too far after the Wii 2.

Does anyone know if madden 12 will have kinect or move support? I watched everything I could this year from E3 and dont see any confirmation they will even support those 2 functions.

Personally both tech demos weren't anything to brag about. Both the 360 and the PS3 could render a cinematic like the one's Nintendo showed.

Nintendo literally gave people the bird. :awesome: :p

On a serious note though people should watch the interview with Geoff from GT who does a great job of questioning Reggie. If anything Nintendo is coming off as bit arrogant.

There's a part where they almost make it seem that it was 3rd party developers fault for the Wii being incapable of playing their games. How is it their fault the machine fell far below industry standards in terms of graphics capability? It wasn't.

Anyway I think the way Nintendo approached this entire announcement was wrong. It seems to premature. They wanted to show off their controller but when thats the only finalized aspect you really have of the machine it doesn't do much to excite people, or at least not me.

I agree 100% with all of this.

Im not sure if Madden 2012 will, but Peter Moore stated all future EA Sports titles will have some Kinect features, i just cant remember if he specifically stated if Madden 2012 would start it.

Yea im still not sold that this was the best time to be introducing a console. While the PS3 and 360 may not make the graphical leap like they did from the last generation, i find it very hard to believe that their next console wont be more powerful than what Nintendo is planning on releasing next year. So its as though Nintendo is jumping ahead to release a "more powerful" system, only to end up behind yet again once Sony and MS drop their next platforms.

Also, as the Wii has shown, that user base doesnt care about visuals. I dont see the same casual crowd that flocked to the Wii to do the same with the Wii U.

I like Reggie, he's kinda like shrek if he had a love-child with Bruce Campbell.

I'll have to watch that interview. Keighley really grilled the keynote speaker for Microsoft on Monday, voicing what alot of us thought...which was the focus on Kinnect.

He certainly doesn't treat them with kid gloves...which is nice to see.

Nintendo hasn't released a great console imo since Nintendo 64.

I can't complain about the Gamecube though. But even so, I agree with this. They're just trying way toooooooo hard to be unique. The Wii was a succuss and all but give me a break. Make an actual console with a normal controller. Not the Wii with HD and a touch screen controller.

Keighley's interview with Fils-Aime was how all of these chats with industry leaders should be. Some are calling him antagonistic...how so? He asked the same questions all the major outlets have been willing to type online but unwilling to ask directly. That's not confrontational, that's journalism.

Isn't that with a developer, though? I mean with Jaffe.

It's a little different, in how you approach those two.
