What pass? There is no pass. People just love it. If it was getting a pass, it wouldn't have made $600m domestically in 12 days.

So Friday, TFA sinks Titanic?

As far as I'm concerned, Titanic is already sunk.

1st runs

Avatar - 749+M
Jurassic World - 652M
Avengers - 623M
The Force Awakens - 600+M (Not counting Wed)
Titanic - 600M

He didn't fix Trek. I'm a Trek fan and his movies are nothing like Trek at all. Tino.

I liked his ST movie, but can understand how you feel. I'm a Tolkien fan so, well, believe me, I know how you feel.....

You don't have to like TFA, but to claim it hasn't brought a life back to Star Wars that hasn't been seen since before the prequels would be a lie. But Lucas and TFN trolls can't help themselves. :funny:

Spider-Man 4 and 5 would have made far more money then TASM and TASM2. It wasn't Fantastic Four bad, but the series was clearly rejected by the general public and critics alike. The only thing that saved it from being completely embarrassing was the expanded overseas market.

Was very disappointed in TASM2 and then right after that came Crapformers: Age of SuckStinktion. I was in a state of deep depression and my life was going nowhere, but I found salvation in GotG. Hallelujah!

JJ definitely breathed new life into the Trek franchise that had grown irrelevant. So yes, 'technically' he saved the franchise, but creatively? Thematically? UGH!
He is a Star Wars fan and it shows. Totally doesn't 'get' Trek.

Or maybe he decided it needed, or was time for, a new direction. I guess PJ could say that about LotR or The Hobbit, but I wouldn't believe him.

Sorry for all the posts in a row, but a guy's got to catch up......

I thought TASM1 wasn't bad even though I didn't want a reboot or a retelling of the origin. 2 was unbelievably bad though and singlehandedly killed off all of Sony's confidence (& rightfully so) in what they could do with the character (alone).

RotK just doesn't work for me. FotR is one of my favorite films of all time, and I love TTT.. But RotK turns me off something bad. I'd take the land of the teddy bears over it. Well, mainly because of Luke and Vader.
Is it the endings that put you off on RotK or more than that? I love the film overall but can understand criticism of it more than for the other 2. One thing I really didn't like was the way the (awesome) Battle of the Pelennor Fields ended, as if the whole lead up was a waste of time! And what is the Land of the Teddy Bears? Sounds amazing! :woot:

Edit: oh Ewoks of course haha

Edit 2: If Ewoks had been replaced by Wookies in RotJ I think it would become my favourite. The combined ending sequences with Luke/Vader/Emperor, the space battle and Han & co on Endor are just crazy when intercut together like that.

I liked the two Trek films by JJ.

My only complaint about the second, it was funny, but needs a little bit more of that balance of humor and action that the first one had.

I kind of wish that they stayed on the planet from the opening sequence. But, it was still a good film, just not as good as its predecessor.

Star Trek was always something I wanted to get into but never did and JJ's films changed that. He's definitely opened it up for new people. It's a shame that not every original ST fan is happy with the films but it's difficult to please everybody with this kind of thing based on a property that's existed for so long across different media.

ROTK was the only LOTR film where I cried.
But I loved FOTR. and TTT was pretty good, too.
I never saw the Hobbit films.

Except for the beginning and middle and end, I thought it was fine. It deviated WAY too much from the book. The cinematography was spectacular and that atoned for a lot of sins in my book. I just had to keep saying to myself that it really wasn't the LotRs.

Frodo and Sam having the argument....lame, not necessary, and misses the point. Saruman's demise....scouring of the shire....oh never mind.....

You don't mean that Mr. InCali.

After a while, Sam's devotion was just grating.

Its a shame that film adaptations cannot always live up to our expectations.
Sadly, that is just the way it is sometimes.

I can see why this film is making money. I had more trouble getting into this film than any other. Even yesterday, I was near the theater in town and saw the parking lot crowded with cars and people.

Trade federations, trade embargoes, clones, armies, wars, the Jedi in their prime. Full cities. Multiple new worlds. Look, all that stuff was boring as **** but it was new and fresh. 'I'd' never seen any of that stuff in SW before.

Betcha Rey is related to an important character in SW.
I don't have a problem with Rey being related to a person in SW if the revelation is presented well and ties into the overall narrative.

I was really looking forward to Prince Imrahil and the Sons of Elrond, and from FotR Glorfindel. But the films are a different entity I guess and really they could have been so much worse than we got. I was very happy that we got something that had the spirit of the books even if not all the major characters and events. Also the extended editions bridge the gap a bit and are a hell of a lot bettter to me.

Wrath of Khan
is overrated imo.

There is more then the ending that I don't like about RotK, but the extended ending is pretty horrible. It isn't an inherently bad thing. It was just poorly executed. I also did not get the point of the way they handled the entire Battle of the Pelennor Fields. Feels incredible anticlimactic, without much in terms of tension. Helm's Deep is so much better. Then there is Sam and Frodo, which is so melodramatic, it might as well be a daytime soap.

I get the concept of adaptation, but I like to judge a film as a film. The Shining is an awful adaptation, but it is a great film.

It's true that no film is going to make everyone happy. For example, I didn't mind the fact that there were a lot of parallels in TFA. Others didn't like it.

Gotya. The Two Towers first time (super-late showing) was possibly my 2nd best ever cinema experience (after Jurassic Park as a kid).

Funny thing is I didn't notice anything like this at all with Jurassic World. That was kind of a hint that whatever numbers it did weren't touching on full capacity and now TFA has proven that.

Jurassic World's box office surprised me, particularly that opening weekend.

I expected this to set records but I didn't think I would actually notice it at the theater.
