Definitely I will enjoy her singing in movie.

"Belle"

She looks and sounds great! I can't wait to see this!

It's like she forgot to take the tape off from the packaging.

It looks like shes wearing a censorship bar. :funny:

The black part of the dress does look weird from the front, but I think it looks great from the back.

I'm more than likely the only one who's finding these clips entirely cringe worthy.

I wouldn't say cringe worthy, but I'm not loving Watson's voice. I like the casting, I just don't like her singing voice for Belle. Almost kind of wish it was Anna Kendrick or Emma Stone now.

The whole thing just feels odd, like none of this is suited to live action.

You might have a point, people might just be enamored with the idea of Watson as Belle and a new version of Beauty and the Beast.

Like that new line where she's referencing Romeo and Juliet that wasn't in the movie. I dunno, didn't work very well for me.

To me it looks like another Into The Woods.

I honestly feel like they would have been better off doing a non-musical version, at the very least you'd be able to deviate from the animated movie more. This kinda just looks boring because it's more or less a shot for shot remake.

Her voice is pretty thin, and honestly, it looks sort of clunky to me. They didn't need to choreograph every single line and movement. It's like they're afraid to have the audience simply absorb the scene so they have to have something happening every single second.

I can't help comparing it to the cartoon and the cartoon is winning hands down so far.

But it'll probably still make a ton of money .

Watson is serviceable in the role so far. That's about it. My issue is less her vocal quality, and more that she seems to lack the requisite energy the character has always had. There's a brightness to Belle as a character that I'm just not seeing, she's very much underplaying the role, which is kind of what she does. This is clearly a different take, though, and I'll bet they're more focused on her intelligence and wit than her attractiveness as a person. They might actually be attempting to make her come across as odd in this sequence, which was always a bit hard to swallow for me ("that really hot girl is reading, she's a weirdo!").

Visually they're being a bit on the nose with the music, but it works well enough. The average person won't care, and actors voices not having the richness they deserve (Evans either, at this point, though he can at least sing) won't stop this from making $2 billion.

Though a lot of people are gonna see it because it's Bellemione.

She's got that Rey hair style going. Still don't like the censor bar on the dress though.

I really don't know how this is going to go. You all are talking about 2 billion and I'm over here doing the Louis C.K "but maybe" schtick.

I agree. The shots are too basic for a film trying to disguise its lack of depth and quality with pretty colors and a confusion of dance routines. For something trying to look so fantastical, it comes off as very cheap and made for TV. People will love it no doubt, and it'll make a ton of money everywhere, but they should've gone the extra mile to give it its own look, its own identity, and drive home the themes of the film much harder instead of relying on the safe route; a live action remake of the animated film.

I know ppl say things like "but it IS different because it's closer to the original story!!". But closer how? By 2 or 3 scenes? Literally everything else is the same by 90% lol. If this is what we're expecting from The Little Mermaid and Aladdin and The Lion King films, then that sucks.

Right. And you base the lack of depth of Beauty and the Beast on what exactly? This movie is 35 minutes longer then the original. It is clearly not a simple remake of the original. It is going to have more then a few new scenes. It has a few new songs in and of itself.

This was the same argument made for the Jungle Book and Cinderella. Neither turned out to be simple remakes and both were very good films.

I think the problem is this film feels far more slavish to the animated movie compared to something like Jungle Book. It remains to be seen whether additional scenes will help or hinder the finished product. Stretching a plot out longer than it was intended can sometimes drag a story out, you only have to look at The Hobbit to see what happens when try and stretch out a story. At the moment those few clips aren't exactly showing something to me that screams 'watch me', if anything its making the animated movie look better.

So I am clear, you are saying it is too slavish, but if they are adding say, character work, they might be dragging it out?

This. I've watched the animated version a few times since the trailer dropped and it makes me love that more. Especially looking at how awful the Beast and the objects look. Not to mention animated Belle looks nuanced. Watson will likely over act at every scene.

I'm struggling because I really want to love this like I love the cartoon but everything about it is not working for me and I don't know of anyone else in real life or on other forums that is actually hyped about it.

The movie is tracking for $150m opening. There are a few people excited. :funny:

Social media looks rather positive.

If anything, she's underplaying Belle. Not overacting.

Honestly, this is just not looking good to me. But then, neither did Cinderella and I ended up LOVING that, so I'm still gonna give it a chance to surprise me.

I'm assuming you're taking what I'm saying too literally. Essentially what I'm saying is that the animated story was built as an 85min movie.

Yes, and this one isn't. Why would Disney want another 30 mins of runtime just to have another 30 mins of runtime? It doesn't help the box office. It is a creative decision. Whether it is a good one, we shall see. But there is no real reason to think they didn't structure the film accordingly.

Yup. I want to like it so bad because the animated film is my favorite movie but I haven't seen anything that makes me believe I'm gonna come out of this truly satisfied.
