Entertainment Weekly's 20 Worst Comic Book Movies Ever..

This coming from someone who thinks The Punisher shouldn't be on the list is pretty absurd imo.

Please.

A mindless but fun cowboy style gung-ho actioner with a bit of spirit, some decent set pieces and a strong lead?

or

A poorly acted, disgracefully written smorgasbord of bad decisions, bad action whilst being a criminal waste of talent and previous efforts?

--

Although we should all expect less from someone with a Storm fixation.

Ha good one, you cut me deep there!:whatever:

28% rating at Rottentomatoes and 33% at Metacritic indicates otherwise.

Yeah, and Roger Ebert liked Batman & Robin. Critics are never total idiots who get it completely wrong or anything. Fans of the character, in general, liked the movie, other than the vocal minority. It was a damn near spot on adaptation.

EW once again proves that they are tools.

Tell me about it. I don't know much about EW...but they're so wrong.

On the F4:
Take one beloved comic series, add four bland, overrated actors, and what do you get?

Say what now? Chris Evans overrated? I think I remember a certain film named Sunshine that doesn't show that. Gruffudd isn't overrated, either. I wasn't into his Hornblower UK series much, but it was good...from what I hear. Dissing on the Chiklis? Well, that's confusing...because I thought The Shield was a well loved show.

I will say that I still enjoy reading EW *shrug* Used to be suscribed to them, a good read for the most part. I'm not gonna hate on them for this though, honestly they don't have that many comic book films to choose from, seems like they picked the ones with the less than stellar reviews and box office draws, even when most of these films have their fan base and etc. *Lights EW's W.C.B.M.E list on fire, throws it in garbage*

*fire spreads too quickly, runs away*

:ninja:

Keep in mind guys...the comic book genre is fairly new. Prior to Blade, you only had about 2 or 3 comic films per decade (if you don't count the Batman and Superman sequels) so the choices are slim to begin with. So even if the movie wasn't atrocious, just mediocre (like Daredevil, though the directors cut is actually good if you fast forward the playground fight)...that could still qualify it as one of the worst comic movies. Oh, and yeah, Fantastic Four IS atrocious.

I understand what you're saying, BUT they did ignore some movies. For example, where's Ninja Turtles III?

Here's a better list, in no particular order...

Captain America
The Punisher (1989)
Batman & Robin
Superman 3
Superman 4
TMNT 3
Catwoman
Return of Swamp Thing
Man-Thing
Nick Fury: Agent Of SHIELD
Dr. Strange (1978)
Son Of The Mask
Steel
Howard The Duck
Barb Wire
Judge Dredd
Generation X
Supergirl
The Crow: Wicked Prayer (ok, based off a book, but the book was based off the comic, so I'm gonna allow it)
Fantastic Four (1994)

There...I came up with that in 5 minutes, almost completely off the top of my head. I think we can pretty much all agree that every movie there is terrible...I left a couple off that I would have personally put on, like Tank Girl, as I've seen a few in this thread defending them. I even left off LXG cause it could be argued that it was at least a well-made piece of crap...Besides, the one I replaced it with (Generation X) is much, much worse.

Ghost Rider doesn't deserve to be on that list. It wasn't a great movie but it was far from horrible. Atleast IMO.

Superman 3

Another obvious one they forgot to add. Also, I didn't find their Superman IV joke funny. Of course we've heard of Superman IV. I remember there used to be a time that for some very strange reason the movie was always on TBS.

Wtf are The Punisher and Barbarella doing on that list?

+ I enjoyed Judge Dredd. :(

They're missing some truly horrible movies like BF, X3, FF2, SM3, Man-Thing etc.

BR and SR were better than both Fantastic Four movies.
Let's not go crazy.
Excuse me? :wow:

Barbarella really doesn't belong on that list.

And Batman Returns and Superman Returns were both better than the Fantastic Four movies.:o

Some of the stuff on the EW list shouldn't be there.

But how are people here judging their choices? Is it a case of looking purely at film-making (regardless of how much it strays from source), or just at the accuracy of adaptation from original source, or at production values (which are bound to be rubbish in some of the older movies)?

Much though I loathe Ghost Rider, it's not the worst comicbook movie ever, though it is the worst of recent comicbook movies. I'm judging it on acting, casting and storytelling - the FX were mostly fine and the accuracy to parts of the comicbook canon was fine too.

And is Generation X really a candidate? I keep hoping for that X-related movie to come out on DVD!

What about Man-Thing, and Return of Swamp Thing? Man-Thing went straight to DVD (and the TV) because it departed too much from source.

fortunately The Punisher was included on this list. I hated that film and it's a mockery to the comic. Jane is so miscast.

daredevil shouldn't have been on that list

^ Ditto that. I'm not ashamed to say I enjoyed Jane's Punisher :o

Ghost Rider, Daredevil, The Shadow, Punisher ans Swamp Thing shouldn't have been on that list. There have been far worse comic movies than those.

THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN? WHAT THE ****?!?! They are soo stupid, Daredevil wasn't that terrible either..I agree that X-men 3 sucked and the Hulk?!? helllllloooo that was just terrible and the 2nd Fantastic Four 4 was terrible too, these people have no idea what they are talking about.

i like batman forever. i don't think it deserves the beef it gets. sure the neon color was a bit much. but i thought the movie was really good.
