IMO Venom crippled Spider-Man 3, not Sandman. And i'm amazed people thought Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst were terrible, thats just ridiculous to me...I thought they were fantastic in all three films, even with the....Emo...Parker scenes....YIKES!
ofcourse it is still at the end of the day, my opinion, but as i gave my reason, i respectfully disagree.
venom didn't even make an appearance until the last 15-20 mins. so no way he could be responsible.
sandman really came out of nowhere. the theme of the 3rd was what happens is spider-man is evil/dark, uses his power for bad instead of good. how do you explore that with sandman? a supernatural being that is way powerful beyond belief, or a villain that is the evil incarnate of you. like i said, the movie practically writes itself with venom.
the real problem is raimi loves sandman and hates venom. so he obviously put all his money/time/effort in sandman, and basically shoved in venom in there. I don't think he even read a single venom comic strip, or he wouldn't have made it a seprate black suit that he has hanging up with the red and blue. and if it was so easy to take off, why need the whole bell tower scene.
he phoned in venom, even though it would have been the ideal character to explore the themes he was exploring
