EVERYTHING Black Panther - Part 4

Well does Marvel have the rites to BP? I thought that FOX did cause he was created in the F4 universe and his 1st appearence was in F4. I don't know, I just hope it's not one of those situations where both marvel and Fox can use the character like the Scarlett Witch and QS. I can see Fox trying to beat Marvel outta of the gate, but then maybe not.

Marvel has the rights. He was introduced in FF, but is much more associated with being either a solo hero or an Avenger.

Further, Kevin Feige has spoken of a Black Panther film in the past:

“In terms of Black Panther, it’s absolutely in development, and when you have something as rich as Wakanda and [Black Panther's] backstory – and clearly, Vibranium’s been introduced in the universe already – I don’t know when it will be exactly but certainly we have plans to bring him to life someday.” - Kevin Feige to BlackTree TV

Sure, that's a must for the MCU, but the Black bloggers will throw a hissy fit if a black director and black writers aren't involved in making Black Panther. Having said that, I doubt Feige gives a darn what the black bloggers (especially Shadow and Act, who's bloggers always get upset when white filmmakers make black themed movies) say.

Who cares. I'm black and I would support who can bring BP best to the screen. I would also say that because they share the same skin tone doesn't mean they know anything about making a BP movie as he is not American. I fear a black director would Americanize him and probably feel they don't have to do any research on different cultures or dare i say it even read the comic to understand Wakandan culture and it's a complete 180 from Black American culture. An american black director know about as much as a white director does about African culture. American blacks have more in common with American whites then with black africans.

I don't get why it's a big deal if people would be upset if, outside of actors, no African-Americans were involved in the writing or production. That would just seem really odd. The first African-American superhero for Marvel Studios and you have absolutely no African-American writers, directors, producers etc. on your creative team?

That wouldn't strike anyone else as very off putting?

You just proved my point as to what I've been saying about American black directors NOT BEING NEEDED. BLACK PANTHER IS NOT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM AMERICAN!! He would be the first black superhero yes but not the 1st black African american superhero. That title would go to Spawn. Why would it be odd. If black directors are gonna throw a hissy fit then actual african directors should throw their hat in the ring and say how are going to make a movie based off an african society and have black people writing it that probably have never even been to Africa and know nothing about African culture.

Because the black bloggers are sick and tired of white folks telling black stories. Watch, when the film is announced this weekend, the website Shadow and Act will want a black director and black writers involved in the making of the film. I am not black but I go to that website and a lot of their articles they express anger at white filmmakers telling black stories.

To me that's a bit narrow minded. I think as long as the writers and directors respect the African culture and yet at the same time find a way to appeal to general audiences, it doesn't matter their race. However, Marvel does need to do a better job of finding minority talent behind the camera as they do in front of the camera.

I would support a white director or just one who can bring the story best for the big screen. Black Panther is not an American black story. I really hope Marvel don't bring in these black people and they weigh the movie down with American baggage and American cultural references. i can just see a black director easily screwing this up.

Yeah you should probably stop typing for a while.

Nokio really ****ed up there. Maybe he's been working on that new Dru Hill album too long, and he was tired when he posted that.

For me the chances of this film being announced tonight is at 60%.

My top choice is Cary Fukunaga, but I don't know if he wants to do a major studio movie.

My dark horse is Don Cheadle because he knows the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But there is another guy who I think is a dark horse, like Cheadle, he knows the MCU, but his TV schedule may prevent it:

Tonight they will announce that Chiwetel Ejiofor will play Jim Wilson in a Hulk movie. Chadwick Boseman will play some random dude that mops up the floors while Ultron first gains self awareness, and David Oyelowo will play a random, throwaway role as Marvel continues the trend of using all of the actors that would make a good T'Challa in random ass roles that lead to nothing.

*still not getting hopes up*

I think that they will announce either him or Carol Danvers. I would love for it to be both, but my gut tells me it will only be one of them.

If I think they were going to announce either him or Carol, I think I'd lean towards Carol.

Yeah Im leaning toward Carol too. Which wouldnt be bad, but Im craving BP

Carol is easier to portray than BP on the big screen because the template is already there in the MCU.

I don't think we'll hear a new property beyond Dr. Strange, but if we do, I agree it would be one of those two, and of those, my hope would also be for Carol.

I think we'll hear at least two new properties tonight.

-I think the spy genre would be a very good selling point for a Black Panther franchise, espically once they get an origin film out of of the way. T'Challa working as a diplomat/dignitary traveling the world and uncovering various plots and schemes. That would be a great franchise to help move into a "post-big 3" phase of the MCU. And Boyega, rapidly becoming a star and already working with Disney, would be a good, if not the best, choice to star in it.

I wonder if boyega might be too busy to handle two major franchises though, three if you bring him into the avengers which I sincerely hope so. Of course of he's willing to do it then I'm sure he will be great!

I can't wait to see what sort of cast they get for this movie. So many great actors and actresses to choose from

Maybe he meant first african american superhero to get his own movie?

Probably so, but him not specifying it shows why Myth Smith and I gave him a hard time. Plus it's been too long since there was a good Dru Hill album, so I've gotta pick on him some.:o

Blade has still got him beat on first afro American. Black Panther will be the first african superhero to get a movie.

Spawn was released on August 1, 1997, Blade was released on August 21, 1998.

Regarding earlier comments, I think it's an insulting generalization to assume that an African-American director would "Americanize" Black Panther. I'm African-American...if I were a director, I would have the common sense to remain true to who T'Challa is, and where he comes from. Maybe there are some Black filmmakers who would want to do a "hip-hop" Black Panther. But to insinuate that they all would is just silly. And I'm certain Marvel would not hire those individuals who would want to take the film in that direction. They've made it pretty clear that they will not work with a director if his/her vision does not mesh with Marvel's overall vision for their Cinematic Universe.

That being said, even as a Black man, I don't think that a Black director is necessary. If the director that they choose happens to be Black...great. As long as he/she is the best person for the job. However, if the director is of another race, that's fine with me as well. As long as said director is able to give this character the film that he deserves, I'll be happy.
