Justice League Ezra Miller Is The Flash - Part 2

Wally as comedic relief was the beginning and end of his characterization on JL/JLU pretty much until FLASH AND SUBSTANCE. There was a "fan" mentality to Miller added here but I felt they were taking the JLU angle with him.
JLU Flash had a bit of an ego to him and a confidence completely lacking with Ezra's. The lines about just pushing people and running away or not knowing what to do, are opposite to Wally's head-first nature.

But hey... We got those "light" tones everyone yelled about for years, so I guess those fans "won", right?
I was one of those people making of people who were so distraught at the constant "FUN" references this crew was trying to push, but it stupefies me at the lengths WB went to drive it home. It's 100% reactionary to the backlash and complete pandering to the crowd who just want to turn off their brains. I used to think JL would be used as the segue to a soft-reboot of this universe. Nah. This was the reboot. It already happened.

All he had to do was push Boomerang and run away. It was very different then dealing with numerous beings more then capable of killing him.

When it comes to Barry Allen as a character. He's a stoic like Superman and Aquaman. That's fine for his comic but then when you put him in a room for a bunch of stoic characters. It's basically a color swap on the costume.

Personally i like this depiction. This is a man with social issues. He's still a hero. Not everyone is Bruce Wayne or Clark Kent. I get it, not muh Barry.

I still like him.

Then why not just use Wally? Saying that sounds like an excuse, really. I liked Ezra's take mostly but the way they went about him was a bit too much. Plus Barry in the comics now has a bit of humor to him and he sort of always has. Not like Wally or Bart but still.

Superman had humor in this as well as just about every character.

I wouldn't have had any problem with the humor if he wasn't Barry in name only.

Branding. Barry is still the one true Flash in DC's eyes. Much like Hal Jordan is still the one true Flash to them (hence the compromise of making GLC about both Hal and John after a bunch of audiences were confused about John not being the GL in the first movie).

I get that. Still think changing him so much seems like an excuse but I'm done talking about it.

They may be avoiding Wally if the comics side is pushing either ginger Wally or in particular a black Wally. So it would be a little off branding wise.

Additionally you got employment. They may want to focus on that CSI aspect. Wally has no real job.

Barry is also the dominant Flash right now as well.

Even still, we have the same problem. The personality doesn't match Wally/Bart/Jay...

None of them have social issues which is really it. His humor comes from that. At the same time please understand that for people like that it's pure anxiety.

I just think there is an over abundance of a certain type of male hero that makes a character like Ezra's Barry more diverse. At the same time I understand that it's not great for Barry Allen fans that it was Barry who was chosen for that role.

Was it just me, or did every time he left the speed force did it make a sound that sounded like the sound Transformers made when they went from car to robot in the original cartoon?

I liked the anxiety bit because it was relatable to me but an accurate young Barry could've still had the same situation.

You made some solid points though

I think Ezra had the toughest job since there's already someone else playing flash. Maybe that's why they kind of made him a bit autistic almost. Interesting idea. Not sure if flash is the best choice for an autistic character though.

He was very charming though

I thought he was one of the best parts of the film. I still prefer Gustin, but he's had over three seasons to win me over . Miller made me like him from the beginning, and many of the best parts of this film were due to him.

Everyone in my theater loved him. He won me over too. On paper, I'd like to think I'm the kind of suave, cool dude who doesn't give into an easy giggle, but 'This is a cave, a BAT cave,' followed with his dumb grin as he sat in the Batmobile made me lol right along with the rest of the theater

That was a great scene. Reminded me of the lego batman scene with Robin geeking out.

Ha I thought the same thing after he gave that line about people being too slow for him. I was like, "wait did they just make a The Flash and allegory for autism?".

Weird approach. Could have been explored a bit more. They just drop that one line and never really dwell on it again.

They barely dwell on anything in this film. That's the issue in a nutshell.

Seriously

I feel like everything between Bruce meeting Barry to them meeting Gordon on the roof of the GCPD just flew by.
There was nothing there really. :funny:

Barry with his dad too.
Rushed

I've seen a few people suggest Barry might've been autistic. Makes sense in a way

Ezra's Flash does remind me of certain kids I know who can't sit still, and talk as fast as freight trains.

He's fast so he should be hyper and talk really fast too! :o

While already having established that this film is flawed, I wanted to note, I thought the build-up and pacing to film was done well, at least in the beginning.

I thought most of the characters were given proper introductions, only I thought Barry needed an introduction as The Flash. I thought the intro to Barry was done well, but we needed a scene revealing him in the suit.

I mean, notice how the rooftop scene with Wonder Woman, Batman and the Flash was the very first time we saw him in costume. I didn't even realize it. Not to say it wasn't a great shot, but I think there should have been a better entrance for his suit. I'm not counting Suicide Squad. But something like that even, would have been good.

When he shows up with the rest of the League on the roof, it was as if we had already seen him in the suit.

I thought Ezra was great, I just wish he had a few more serious moments to balance the quips, which worked for the most part!

Saw some stills of an apparent scene where Bruce, Clark and Barry look like they're having brunch. EDIT: Looks like it's for a teaser or promotion since they're not dressed as their characters

I didn't notice it, but I'll definitely keep an ear
out for it tonight. I think I was trying to pay close
attention to the score as it relates to sound/effects
during my very first viewing.
