Comics Fans Who Continue to Buy. WHY?

It's kind of like being a Red Sox fan. Yes, sometimes they suck so bad, it pisses you off.
But you're a fan. That means you stick with them, through the bad years and the good years.
Spidey will have more good years.

Mark

When the team is not doing well, you get a new manager and new players and Spider-Man needs a whole new editor in chief and writers to get him back to glory. When that happens, this fan will return to the ball park.

Trust me, a good majority feels the way we do.:spidey:

I know that. A few friends stop collecting after the sins past story and more after the unmasking. I stayed to see where all of this was going and after Amazing Spider-Man#534, i knew that Marvel had no idea where all of this was going.

MORE! MORE! :)

I think we should just start a "thor translation" thread.

My word, the laughs we could have.

I see that more "lets drop the books cause its not how we like it" fans are still going at it. Fine. If you don't like the book, drop it. I don't buy mags that I don't like so why should you? But then have some class and don't call yourselves Spider-Man fans after you drop the mag.

People who flaunt their intelligence often truly have none to begin with.

i think he's having some good years right now. he's growing as a character, and that to me is WAY more exciting than the monster of the week approach.

whoa, we're no less fans than you. except we don't take this s#!t from Marvel and are ready to drop it if it means we can go back to having some quality writing in the Spider-Man books. something we haven't had in years and years.

it's called "tough love".

it's called "elitism".

and marvel doesn't worry about you, trust me.

This is my conclusion:

I'd rather read crappy Spider-Man rather than no Spider-Man at all.

I felt that way during the Byrne/Mackie era.
Again, I don't find the recent stories to be ALL bad. Yes, there are many things I disagree with-like the unmasking, the sidekick suit & all that magical nonsense. But there are things I enjoy apart from that & that's why I stick around. The bad I can tough out as long as it doesn't choke all the life out of the books.

It's only elitist when you push your views on others.

then read USM. it's more Spider-Man than this thing passing off as him in 616.

EDIT: btw, I'm not trying to push my view, I'm just questioning that logic. ;)

if enough people do it, they do, trust me.

it's not "elitism", it's just "not putting up with this s#!t anymore". some people have more patience than others.

EVERYONE draws a line somewhere, this is where I draw mine.

I do read Ultimate Spidey. I think its great.

I think Ultiamte Spidey is mediocre bullcrap. Stories are weak and the writin' is horrible. Sure, there's no Other crap to contend with, but it hasn't had a good story in a looooooong time.

True, but some posters are.
As long as I'm being entertained, my money isn't being wasted.
And again, not everything is bad.
Sidekick suit bad, them finding ways to make it useful good.
Unmasking bad, watching him try to deal with it good.
Like the story w/his student's reaction. Norman's reaction. Those almost make up for it.
Now had he done it, felt great about it & not had any negative repercussions I would go ballistic. JJJ suing him, him threatening Tony, that guy taking a shot at him-there's plenty that can come of it & who knows? They might be able to fis it down the line.
I'm not defending anything that Joe or JMS have done. But for me the good outweighs the bad. You don't agree, don't buy the book.:spidey:

my problem isn't even the unmasking itself. hell, DD proved it can work. my problem is how they try to come up with like ten lame excuses for it, one worse than the other.

-"oh, we have to earn the public's trust". funny, I don't remember Spidey caring about the public to the point where he'd unmask to get their approval.

-"this isn't about right and wrong, moral and immoral. it's about legal and illegal." when he not only has been basically an illegal vigilante, but in the same issue he says that, he goes "how come something so right feels so wrong?" I THOUGHT IT WASN'T ABOUT RIGHT AND WRONG!!

-May blesses it? good for her. but Spidey is still supposed to have a "great responsibility", specially towards his loved ones.

-he's experienced what happens when only one of his rogues knows his identity. he never lets himself forget what happened to Gwen. what never would've happened if one of his enemies didn't know his identity. he never forgets it... until now.

see, they can nail every possible scenario surrounding it, but it's absolutely meaningless when they go so off the mark in the most important part of this: Peter.

Everything you're saying there is true, Jack. And I've said it myself. But again, I'm not defending that b/c it's wrong & it's stupid. I'm defending the decision to continue reading despite this colossally bad idea, because the books still have entertainment value.
And if not for said decision, this thread wouldn't exist. If not for this thread. I wouldn't have been prompted to make the post that became your sig. So some good comes out of it regardless. ;)

Umm...Do you like ANY Spider-Man books?

How can you call USM "mediocre bullcrap"?!

and I get it. I do.

I'm just in a dilemma, because the one thing hindering the fun of it for me is "only" the damn protagonist. to me, Spidey right now is the worst thing in his own book. I try to get some entertainment from it, but there's not a single issue where, had Spidey been properly written, I wouldn't have dug the story.

woe is me. :(

aah, yes... we should dedicate a thread to it. :D

too bad I can't fit the last one in my sig though. :(

As soon as this thread was created everyone knew it was going to be a 'mini' Civil War.

One side- J.J's side

For the recent stories of Spider-Man, who continue to buy.

Another side- Savemarvel's side

Against the recent stories and who have or are thinking of quitting.

I'm with J.J!

That's my favorite :(

heh, "duty before booty"... can't help but laugh at the thought of Thor saying that. :D

but I actually meant this:

"I HAVE THY MEASURE NOW, AND I FIND THEE LACKING!"
Translation: If that's the best you can do, I'm REALLY gonna f**k you up.
