Fant4stic: Reborn! - - Part 21

So I'm assuming they went to the negative zone in that trailer?

See, I figured Trank would be integrating the Negative Zone at some point. That is one thing I do like about this choice.

One could call The Dark Knight a horrible adaption if you look at it as an adaption of the Silver Age Rainbow suited Batman, but it's not based on that version and thusly isn't compared to that and hated because it's not like that

The same should happen for this, whether one likes it or not it's based on UFF and it should be looked at as an adaption of that not as an adaption of something it isn't

From what we've seen it looks to be as close as an adaption of that as most marvel movies are to their sources

Nothing has indicated that Latveria is in it. And if it is, he likely isn't its ruler.

The map screen Sue is monitoring features it apparently

d)Long time comic book fans that frankly couldn't be bothered to come into threads with aggro self righteous indignation spewed by other fans that have set themselves up as the arbiters of who is and who is not a real fan of the FF?

Yeah, that's the camp I've been in since the firestorm of MBJ's casting made these threads a no go and I am sure that's the experience for many here on the Hype. People got UNHINGED about Trank's twit pic of some puppies in here. It was hard for a lot of us to take these threads seriously after that.

But please... Don't let that stop anyone from stewing in their fanboy/girl juices.

Curse those silly fanboy/girls with their ten thousand plus posts providing opinions on superhero message boards!

The firestorm over MBJ's casting would have quickly died down if it wasn't followed by Teller, Bell, disabilities, grim, gritty, lo-fi, containment suits, we don't call ourselves the Fantastic Four, Hobo Doom, Victor Domashev, Blogger Doom, body horror, Cronenberg, vents, springs, et al.

The good thing is if Fant4astic is a success, future directors of comicbook movies will never have to crack open a comic book again. Think of all the creativity that will unleash!

but that's hardly the original take on batman... the ultimate fantastic four imo is that equivalent..

adapting that batman would be like making "spider-man and his amazing friends" the cartoon. It may be in the characters history.. but that doesn't mean it should be adapted or the core spirit or embodiment of the property.

Exactly. The argument of "this isn't the FF we love" is invalid because what it really means is "this isn't the 616 FF we love".

I knew this was UFF the moment Teller was cast. They were never going for 616.

What is core?Even fans of the comics don't agree.

The idea of controlling the perception of how these characters are seen to younger generations is telling.

John Stewart can't be the GL cause Hal is the GL first. Repeating the comics. But the regular audience gets to decide what it is they like. If they reject the core elements then that doesn't make them invalid. They just don't like what you and I like.

Creativity? Is that what they call "stroking their own artist ego" these days?

Well...stroking something at least.

I am so behind the times.

Why should anyone reward a cheap ploy to retain a film license?

This is an assumption based on tremendous conjecture. Not sure how you could realistically believe a crew consisting of very talented people like Trank, Kinberg and the cast would ever agree to do what you think this movie is.

I fully understand the disappointment as I too wouldve preferred a 616 adaption BUT since it's clear and has been clear for along time that they chose to adapt UFF I decided, like you, to accept it and hope for a great UFF movie rather than dwell on it not being 616 and refuse to move on

AGAIN..

this is clearly ALSO NOT "ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR: THE MOVIE"

just because they obviously pull a few things from it, doesn't suddenly make it a ultimate fantastic four film...

Like The Avengers.. it's pulling all sorts of lore and creating it's own thing..

beyond the age groups and N-zone, there's not a whole lot "ultimate" about this film, and even less 616

Lets not forget a lot of haters were wrong about DOFP, so what if history repeats itself? How many are going to admit they were wrong? That's why is more reasonable to have a wait and see approach just in case, but some people never learn unfortunately.

You sound like you've seen the movie, but I know you haven't.

Thought this was a interesting quote from Whedon. When he's right he's right.

"Marvel is in a position of making a statement simply by making [a female-led] movie, which I think would be a good thing to do. But it has to be a good movie, it has to be a good character, and most of the best characters in Marvel are owned by Fox, let's face it!"

core means.. when you strip individual stories away that quite differ.. how do you describe the fantastic four when it's all merged into one. what is the "core concept" of characteristics and tone that the fantastic four has "mostly" been over the last 60+ year history?

that's why i say.. "doctor who meets Lost in space" the theme has always been about family.. what makes a family? how do you stay tight nit when you're all quite different? exploration, sciences, wonder. going from nothing to super-stars. The Fantastic Four are as a team.. at the very core... Adventurers and Explorers.

Then there's individual characters...

Sue Storm at the root of it all, is a care taker and a mothering figure regardless of her profession

Reed is the Science wiz who has all the answers, yet is often consumed by his work and at times obsessed with problem solving

Johnny is the immature hot shot, great looking playboy who on the surface is the dumb irrational jock, but on the inside a heart of gold (perfect example is Jason Stackhouse on True Blood (though not as dumb). He's the first to rush into battle, and the first to really enjoy the super-hero schtick

Thing, he's the protector. Best friend of Reed, adores Suzie, and is like oil and water with Johnny (though they both have their share of love and respect on top of annoyance..) Thing also just wants to be human again, and the family helps him feel that way.

Finally there's Doom... the inspiration of Darth Vader... the Villain of all villains... Regal Dictator, pompous , arogant, selfish. always hungry for more power.. and major mommy issues. This causes a friction between he and reed.. because Doom simply can't stand to be 2nd to anyone in intellect. this is a man who will stop at nothing.. from murder to magic, to raging a war to get what he wants.

I think people would have a hard time arguing that these are all the core concepts of the fantastic four... and I think most of us have a hard time swallowing a film that doesn't get those aspects right.

There for.. if it doesn't check those all off.. i wont pay money to see it. and hope it burns and flames and eventually goes back to Marvel. Whos tones and story handling honors there properties with respect and does a sell job at capturing the beloved spirit and magic we grew up with.

Regarding good female lead characters, he is right. Sue Storm and every other female X-Man have pretty much had their own stories.

well we all know that... Sue storm and the X-women are all the top-tier women of the marvel universe.. no contest.

problem is.. we've truly yet to see how amazing those women of the comics are on film :/

Are we bringing up the "The world was against DOFP!" fallacy again? There was mild criticism about the marketing campaign and Quicksilver's costume got some (much deserved) snickers. But DOFP was highly anticipated, not wildly reviled like Fant4stic.

I'm a little lost. Are you describing the comic book version or this movie?

Even though Marvel sold off their best females I beleive that many of their lesser known properties have great concepts and if used and made into quality movies then it doesn't matter that the most popular female comic character arent at their disposal

Thank God we have this guy around to tell everyone what their opinion really means and whether it's valid or not. What a relief! All that thinking for myself is tedious.

Comic, Cartoon, Novel.. all "classic" and "widely known" versions of the characters. Not the film.. if it were the film, i'd be very much rooting for this film.. but it's quite the opposite.

It's like taking superman.. and no longer the man of steel, but just a stronger than average human
