Fant4stic: Reborn! - - - Part 37

I don't want a period piece. I want the FF and all related characters to interact with the Avengers.

My original thought was that the team would first appear in the present day having left at an earlier point in time. But a period piece wouldn't be the worst thing.

Peyton Reed's original treatment was for a 60s era team, and given how he bailed Marvel out with Ant-Man he has a lot of juice now with the studio. That certainly doesn't mean they have to stay in that time period.

I would have personally hoped the movie would have been screened to critics this week.

Back before we had ever had any FF film, I remember talk of something set in the 60's. I didn't like the idea then, because I felt the FF have always been high-tech, and high-tech would seem to imply modern times.

But the idea has grown on me and as we've seen more "steam punk" films, I can see something like that working. That would allow them to translate some of the Kirby designs almost directly. To me, bringing the Kirby world to life with Reed wearing his tie and hat and smoking his pipe could be sort of cool.

I'd at least be willing to consider something like a three-film series set in the 60's and then they could disappear and be brought back at some other time into the present.

And the thing with that is Marvel could jump on it fairly quickly if they chose to. They could be making those films set in the '60s without them interfering with their current continuity.

When next week? Wednesday or Thursday?

I think he's full of it. "There's no embargo, they just want show us until the day before release."

Until I see a review before 8/6 I'm standing behind the embargo claims.

Interesting.

Ok, where's the list of films that waited THAT long to allow reviews?

I think he got mixed up with the question. I think El Mayimbe thought the guy was asking why there had been no reviews yet and El Mayimbe was saying there's no embargo because press haven't had a chance to see it yet, if you get what I mean

Send him a tweet to figure out I don't know

Screening a movie one or 2 days prior to the release is not exactly marginally better than just letting it be reviewed on Friday.

As Orba pointed out yesterday or the day before, there are advance screenings on the 5th and 6th.

So instead of giving critics advance screenings a couple weeks before release, it looks like the critics will be able to see it when it opens in limited distribution on the 5th and 6th.

So basically reviews from critics and fans will be trickling in just as the film is opening in wide release.

There's no need for an embargo if you don't allow critics to see it before everybody else, and I'm sure Fox is hoping the fans who make an effort to go to the advance screenings will be kinder than the critics.

It always could be worse, remember the glass is half full! ;)

Words matter. Of course critics can see it, notice he doesn't say anything about reviewing it.

So, the "no embargo" claim is just clever wording?

So, the "no embargo" claim is just clever wording?

I'm not sure how clever it is, but there's no embargo because there are no special screenings for critics. The critics can see it with everyone else.

You can't 'embargo' a film that has already been released. You can't have everyone at the advance screenings sign secrecy agreements that prevent them telling their friends on facebook what they thought.

Exactly. Critics may see it next week, but they cant publish their reviews online or in print until 7pm EST Thusday. Which is the same time and day that regular screenings begin at some theaters. So yeah there is an embargo stopping the publishing of reviews until the literal moment the film premiers for the regular public. El Maybe is just confused and apparently doesnt know what the hell an embargo is. Embargos have nothing to do with the screenings. Embargos pertain to publishing the reviews.

They'll make it work. Even if they just start dropping hints that eventually build up anticipation for it.

I think the best opportunity would be to introduce them in at least one of the IW films, with them then getting a solo film in Phase 4.

Just say that they've only recently have gotten their powers.

Not really sure what is going on but certainly others have said that there is an embargo so not sure whats happening with elmayimbe.

For example:

Interesting. That is very specific and direct. El Mayimbe certainly seems to be wrong in saying "there is no embargo". Daily Superhero is being embargoed.

My guess is El Mayimbe assumes there is no embargo because nobody will be able to see it until August 5th so an embargo would be ridiculous. But even though Daily Superhero isn't seeing it until August 5th, they're still being embargoed until August 6 at 7 pm.

We may not be able to nail down the exact details of the embargo, but I think it's very safe to assume this film really, REALLY stinks.

It appears Fox is going to lengths not only to delay showings but also to embargo those delayed showings.

Yeah apparently this movie is just about 100 mins long and i"'m guessing thats with credits.

le sigh
