Fant4stic: Reborn! - - Part 21

As I can see how this section of the boards has been taken over by people who 'have never read anything about the Fantastic Four, but this movie looks it will be a good representation of it, because grounded and gritty is kewl and I love dark corridors' I will make the sane decision and abandon the FF board just as I abandoned the X-boards, spidey boards and bat boards years ago. So from now on you don't have to read any longer my opinion of how the FF are supposed to be and I don't have to read yours. And with that, I wish you a good night. You can still find me in the sections of movies or TV shows I still care about.

Sweet lord.

IGN posted a Rewind Trailer.

Discusssed some theories over how many trips to the N-Zone, if they can control their powers at first, if Doom is disfigured by the experiment and more. Check it out

Aside from Doom pretty much everything you described about the characters traits is likely to be in the movie or more specifically hasn't been confirmed to not be in the movie.

She could be the motherly type, Ben the big protective brother type, Reed the scholastic Genius and Johnny the cocky type

Johnny storm is older than everyone... and looks it. That changes family dynamic.

There's absolutely no sign of adventure either. Nor signs of laughs from johnny and ben. I dont see evidence to suggest most of anything i listed is happening. Just alot to suggest its not.

That's a shame.

There wouldn't be so many issues if the people* who were looking forward to this could just come to grips with the fact that others aren't, for whatever reason.

Instead you have a bunch of people excited about the movie, who can't stop raging and sniping at those who feel differently.

Me not liking something you like is *not* the virtual equivalent of me pissing in your cheerios, but people seem hell bent on treating it exactly like that.

Furthermore, I don't feel like anyone is *owed* an explanation why I don't like something. I have my reasons, same as everyone else. if I want to explain them to you, I will. But you aren't entitled to them, and calling me a cultist or a mindless drone or a hater is not going to accomplish anything but riling me up further.

Which is probably the point, I guess.

*obviously does not apply to those who choose not to stick around and/or become combative

Looks like the tables have turned.

Concrete proof? No. But the interviews and tone of the trailer have all but confirmed a dark, gritty, brooding film which is inspired by the friggin fly. ..

Fox made it quite clear this reboot is far opposite the last franchise. And i dont consider that positive. Nor do i think most of the themes and "core" concepts can exist in the tone they've created

I feel like everyone in this debate has made their point. Can we just agree to disagree for a while? Maybe speculate on the movie a little? This is tiring.

Some people were convinced this was going to be some found footage film (cause that's all Trank can do) aka Chronicle2 with no concrete proof. Then the trailer drops and it now some Interstellar ripoff.

Like I said for the past few months. Just dislike something cause you dislike something. No need to believe unconfirmed rumors or believe stuff to make yourself more angry.

Abrams Trek had funny and light moments but it wasn't GOTG dance-off either silly either.

Honestly, I liked the trailer for the same reason why a lot of people hate it. Because it's different.

The Fantastic Four aren't the Avengers or X-Men. They're scientists and explorers rather than traditional superheroes. I don't want to see the FF take the same tone as either of those franchises or else they'll just be generic. Guardians of the Galaxy worked precisely because it focused on being sci-fi and comedy first and a superhero story second which was something that nobody else was doing at the time.

Fantastic Four needs to do what nobody else is currently doing. By that I mean sci-fi drama fist and superhero second. We'll still get heroes with powers. We'll still get high stakes but we'll get plenty of angst and wonder and equal amounts.

And I think it nailed that aspect

- Seems there is a minimum of two trips to the N-Zone. One where they where white suits and one where they were blue suits.

- Six individuals are present for the blue suit trip to the N-Zone. This is likely the Four plus Cictor and an unknown sixth member, perhaps Mole Man or Franklin Storm

- The trip with the White suits seems to be the one that goes wrong since they are scaling a mountain and the debris of a destroyed lab is all around them while wearing the white suits.

- Unknown which trip is first

I'd speculate that the White suit trip from the cheaper looking lab is wear they get their powers and the blue suit trip from the fancier lab is them going back

I agree. The peolpe 'loving' the trailer are
a) mostly newbies
b) people who start their posts with 'I don't care about the FF/I don't know anythithing about the FF, but...'
c) the usual suspects

I guess I'm just liking the trailer rather than loving it, but I think it's a very well-made trailer. And I'm saying this as someone who (a) isn't all that new (although I guess not that old either), (b) have a decent knowledge of the Fantastic Four (although, admittedly, they're not my favorite Marvel comic, part of that has to do with their lackluster portrayals on TV and film and I was hoping that would change), and (c) have generally been more negative about this film than positive if you look at all my posts.

Granted, I'm still not convinced this movie will be a Fantastic Four movie, but the trailer was still quite good.

See, I figured Trank would be integrating the Negative Zone at some point. That is one thing I do like about this choice.

While my personal preference is not to change the origin at all, I do think, if it's going to be changed, this is a good way to do it. It streamlines things by connecting a key part of the FF mythos to their origin and helps explain things without having to worry about real science like when it comes to Cosmic Rays.

Some people just can't grasp onto the fact that this is not a typical Fantastic Four movie. They're teenagers instead of adults and they don't wear the tight blue costumes. They're not taking the usual approach and because of this, people think it will be a bad movie. It's like seeing the trailer for Batman Begins and saying it will be a bad movie because it's more realistic. I'm excited for this movie and I'm not ashamed to say it. It has a great director and writer and a great cast. It already looks better then those last two movies which took the usual approach. How did that turn out? I'm not judging the comics because I'm a big F4 fan but there was no way they would go back to the comicy F4 after those last 2 movies. Marvel Studios has done the best job at adapting comics to film IMHO, but Fox is trying something different, and I like that.

Honestly, it pisses me off when people insult you for liking a different approach. I'm excited for this movie and that means I'm not a F4 fan? Gimme a break...

Except they are in their dark suits in the scenes where things seem to have gone wrong (burned suits, smashed visors etc).

Yeah, it's one of the few things that I think is a really unfair criticism. I don't like that people in the negative camp get accused of being MCU Stans. And I don't like that people in the positive camp have to defend their roles as fans. We can all be fans and like different things.

Yep. Getting flashbacks of the new "dark and edgy" Spider-Man we were getting with TASM.*shudder* I really wish they'd have kept the "Keep hope alive" thread open.It would be the only place of refuge from the kool aid drinkers.

I must've confused it with the mountain scene

Red is wearing his glasses in the black suit version and looks excited.

I think the white suit is Doom and some other people actually making it to the N-zone after Reed's attempt fails.

DOFP fused bleakness and light hearted humor really well in my opinion. Chronicle was able to accomplish that as well, along with the familial stuff. I'm hopeful that we'll get plenty of light and familial moments in the actual film. I don't think the teaser was a full on example of everything the film will be. They rarely ever are. Except for the MCU teasers, which are really just trailers anyway haha.

I think the problem with the whole discussion around the web over the reaction to the trailer is that it seems to be framed by the extremes.

Those who like the trailer seem to argue that people who didn't like the trailer either 1)Want the film to fail, or 2) Are dogmatic fans who can't accept any change from the canon. By the same token those who didn't like the trailer assume that those who liked it are 1) Newbies who don't know or like the comics or 2)Apologists for Fox and the filmmakers.

It assumes that you either have to love the trailer or hate it and that you have to fit in whatever categories help further your own argument. I'm a guy who's always advocated giving filmmakers leeway with source material and I'm not bound to the F4 comics, and I didn't like the previous films. At the same time I'm not a F4 fan.

Under the current polarization , I should have loved the trailer yet I wasn't blown away by it. I thought it was okay and did what it needed to do, but I didn't feel it was as amazing as alot of people who like it feel. At the same time, I didn't think it was awful and I'm more than willing to see Trank's take on the story, so I'm not rooting for it to fail or want it to be bad.

I need to see the story first before I could make any sort of judgement or draw any conclusion and it seems that those pro and con the teaser are defensively drawing conclusions about the film based on a teaser.
