I remember thinking at the time that he wasn't actually saying: "They're so dumb, they'll watch anything that calls itself Fantastic Four." But rather saying: "When they start seeing footage from this thing, they'll see it really is the Fantastic Four."

Well, we've seen footage, but we still haven't seen the Fantastic Four.

but but but... they have the names and the powers! see!!!! as long as they have those they're the Fantastic Four! that's all that matters!!!! :ff: :whatever:

"We just want to see the characters we've loved all our lives done justice on the big screen for once."

"OMG you entitled geeks!!1!"

Bugger off.

Or my favorite one, "Its an adaptation, so change is okay! Its in its definition!".

If that excuses radical change for the sake of change, then maybe we should stop using that word, and start using "translation". Because that's what they should be doing, first and foremost.

Translation actually really works.

Since comic books and movies are obviously different mediums of story telling, but still very similar cinematically, there is no reason a translation should be so damn poor.

Yes, that works much better.

You can get alot of stretch from a short budget and I thought TMNT did that well. Yes it was low budget, but the turtles looked decent. I wasn't a fan of Splinter but that was more his design than a look of cheap FX.

This movie from what I've seen looks freaking cheap as hell. Again I go back to the shot of Johnny walking down the hall where it's just a shot of MBJ, and they composited a flame layer ontop of the cell, that is SOOOOOOO freaking cheap.

People complained about the rubber suit Thing in the last movie. Now You've just got MBJ walking around filmed normally and cheap composite FX. I can tell from the green screen shot that was leaked that Showed MBJ with those cheap lighting. They are just going to take that footage and composite more flame on top.

CHEAP! CHEAP! CHEAP!

Exactly

But what if a trailer doesn't make you want to see a film? Or actually makes you want to see it even less than you did before?

Gosh, this thread moves fast. But to answer your question, that's a totally fair criticism of the trailer. The point is to sell you on seeing the movie and if it doesn't then it fails. I still don't see it as an indicator of the actual quality of the film though. That's just impossible to know without seeing the movie.

it's true, but that's what trailers and word of mouth are for... you shouldn't go see a movie "just cuz" you should see it because you really want to go spend your money on it...

Mara seems to have the most emotional arch. That one shot of her holding MBJ hit right in the gut, mane.

I looked at a few YT reactions, they seem mostly positive.

Trank!

If Fox markets this thing like they did DOFP... then we won't know how the characters are portrayed until the film hits theaters. I understand the problems with the marketing budget when Marvel controls the merch revenue but getting the cast to do a few more interviews won't cost all that much.

We saw a trailer that spelled out what the tone and budget would be... but we didn't see the Fantastic Four. We saw their powers but we saw very little of them as characters. "Grounded" isn't a personality trait. Here's hoping that we get a second trailer and some cast interviews sooner rather than later.

Lawd! Y'all can talk round n round, but most of us on here will go see it.

Don't act like you ain't.

depends on context.. you can say a "film has a personality" and it's grounded...

Eh, you've got Mission Impossible 5 the week before and Man From UNCLE the week after…both of which are more interesting to me. So if this keeps looking like it does I'll wait for a digital release.

only way i'd ever see this.. is extremely good word of mouth that for some reasons sparks my interest.. and it ends up free on tv. otherwise no dice. my money wont go to this.

Not a single dime will I spend on this. Nor would I waste a perfectly good trip to the theater.

When I do get around to it, it'll be Netflix, television or piracy.

Yarr!

Eh, if it gets good word of mouth...More ppl will. :oldrazz:

Like I said about GB, people may claim they won't PAY to see it, but watching it for free via theatre hopping or through download......

There are plenty of CBMs I waited to see on television because they didn't look any good. The Story FF films being two of them.

it'd be incredibly hard for me to want to take time out to watch it... so that's why tv is really the only option. I don't want any part of it's success.. even netflix views or downloads... people tally that stuff.. i don't want my view to help this film in any way

the only bright side of this film being so drastically different, is when the rights inevitably go back to marvel some day... doing a f4 proper will seem much more fresh

truth be told.. id have a hard time watching this regardless of if i eventually wanted to or not anyway.. i'm just going to have MBJ's "you'll see it anyway" crammed into my brain.. and i wouldn't want to prove him right out of spite even

It will be on the movie channels I already get within 5-6 months of its DVD release, so I'll just DVR it.

Yeah that was definitely an immature comment from him, BUT, in the big picture, most people never heard it.

I think it was just him snapping back because he knows how internet geeks are. Taking the high road is what they're supposed to do, but you know.

Kinberg and Trank keep tossing around the $100 million dollar figure for a budget

The only time I heard mention of a 100 mil was when Trank talked about how much Chronicle grossed.

there hasn't been any confirmation on the budget that I've seen.

My guess is at 65 million before reshoots. But hey, the higher the budget the better so hopefully Fox won't make their money back.
