The clarion call of this film's supporters.

Pretty much, yeah.

I have yet to see a diehard/lifelong fan of the the Fantastc Four have good things to say about it, overall. Either those unfamilar with the F4 (but are comics/cbm fans), or are outright casual fans with not knowledge of any comics or this films production.

I remain baffled at the insistence on some of your parts to believe that because you have heard a particular word of phrase spoken in regard to this film or a character that this is ALL the film or character will be throughout the entire film/franchise, etc.

This isn't so much a positive about the FF as much as it is a knock on this year's sci-fi lineup but Project Almanac and Jupiter Ascending are bot supposed to be pretty bad. Terminator Genisys looks like a rehash of Terminator 2. The Lazarus effect looks terrible. Chappie, Mad Max and Tomorrowland all seem to be pretty god but Chappie releases the same day as Faults and I'm a big Winstead fan, Mad Max is competing with Pitch Perfect 2 and I like Anna Kendrick and Tomorrowland releases the same day as Spy and I like Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham. Insurgent, The Martian, Victor Frankenstein and Jurassic World will probably turn a profit. Odds are, a lot of people are going to want to see a great sci-fi film by the time this comes out. Plus, the shift in genre means it's not trying to one-up Age of Ultron.

This is going to be a bad year for sci-fi fans. Even moreso if Fantastic Four flops, and Chappie, Mad Max and Tomorrowland suffer from stiff competition. (Granted, I'll probably see the latter three since I try to see everything that interests me.)

And keep in mind that I hated Jurassic Park 3 so I'm a bit cautious about Jurassic World. I also know next to nothing about Victor Frankenstein aside from an excellent cast.

Don't forget about Ex-Machina.

That film will be great. I'm going by the script. :oldrazz:

Exactly. It would be like saying "I've never been a fan of Batman, but if you got rid of his costume and bat symbolism, never have him be called Batman, set him in a much brighter location like sunny Oahu, have him wear a Hawaiian shirt, drive a red Ferrari, sport a mustache and investigate some offbeat cases, THEN I would definitely be interested."

It's more like, "I've never been a fan of Batman, but this movie that's been made about a Hawaiian investigator guy looks really good to me, and I'm not going to not watch something I want to see because it's called Batman and Batman fans don't like that." It's not like everyone who wasn't a fan was hoping and praying for Fantastic Four to change into something they care about. A movie exists, and everyone has to decide for themselves whether it's something they're interested in.

The FF in this film still have their powers. All that really looks changed so far regarding characters are the costumes and Human Torch being black. I'm still a bit concerned that Mara and Bell won't have a really good grasp of their characters though since we know that Mara has no familiarity with the FF and Bell has done no promo for this film.

I think Bell is up here in Virginia filming his tv show since like October.

I can totally understand why people who have either a disinterest or an outright disdain for The Fantastic Four might be interested in FFINO. I simply can't fathom why those who call themselves fans would.

When talking about UFF, correct. When talking about 616, age, back story, origin, how they get their powers, visuals.

Visually, they don't resemble the UFF either until the very end. This film is entirely an origin story. Most likely we won't see them resemble any version of the FF until the second half of the third act.

As far as personalities, I have no idea what they're going to be like this time around and that's the part that concerns me, particularly with Mara and Bell.

No, colors CAN evoke emotion. They CAN play an integral part. Nowhere is it written that they must mean something just because they are used, as a filter or otherwise. Blue is a cool color. That does not mean it HAS to evoke a particular emotion every time it is used. Just because someone uses a blue filter does mean every emotion is intended to be interpreted as "cold" and "dark".

If you honestly believe that film theory suggests that a blue or black color in a visual MUST mean something or other, than perhaps you don't know anything about film and art, period. Because there's more to art and its interpretations than basic color theory.

Actually it does... color sets tone and emotion...

Ive taken color theory, animation, and film classes...... so yeah, its clear you dont know what you're talking about

By they, I mean most people. I can't see most people upset that a black actor isn't apologetic about playing white comic book character.

I dont think his race has squat to do with it. Not sure why you felt the need to identify it.. it was his prickish attitude

Not everyone becomes fans of something by starting at the beginning or the way "real" fans did..

I became a fan of Superman because of Smallville. A version of Superman that was no tights, no flight. I wasn't a fan before cause the costume blue boy scout was all I could see. Seeing him as a teenager when I was a teenager was my way in.

Then I went back an absorbed the tv shows, movies, and comics.

Exactly. I'd feel the same if Teller had said it.

Challenge accepted.

If this film shot for the same tone with bright saturated colors, it would go down as one of the worst trailers of all time. The colors were fine. I liked the trailer. I was still disappointed because I want to know if they got the characters right yet none of them open their mouths.

And yes, you can like something and still have it disappoint you.

So any ideas how mole man fits into all of this??

I completely forgot he was in the film.

I can to a degree. Some fans I know are fine with changes from the books, even big ones. They still like the books, so I while I know my position differs from them (especially on this one), I can still consider them as fans.

Different strokes and all that. What floats one persons boat might sink another's etc.

He'll be a cameo that teases a sequel.

Hmmm, Tim Blake Nelson doesn't strike me as a leading villain for a sequel, but maybe. Man it would suck for Tim Blake Nelson if they set him up to play yet another villain and he never winds up playing it.

Dude, big FF fan here. I was expressing my doubts about the movie here on the forum before the trailer came out since it didnt resemble the Lee-Kirby books I had, nor Byrne's run, nor Waid's run. But after the trailer, i was more positive because it seems to have capture the spirit and tone and gravitas of Jonathan Hickman's recent FF run which I am also a big fan of. A combination of crazy cosmic high scifi with lots of dangerous adventures and explorations, mixed with family dynamics and character arcs, but with a more restrained humor and a more serious tone.
