The writer responsible for the awesome Days of Future Past

Can someone please explain to me why Days of Future Past is now a feather in Kinberg's cap? I thought the writing in the film was awful to mediocre at best. I don't see how it was any better than X-Men: The Last Stand. It was the acting and the direction that saved DOFP as a film for me so that it was at least entertaining. Why is Kinberg getting artificially bolstered in this way? This is the same guy that wrote Last Stand, xXx: State of the Union, etc. And now he's apparently the official spokesman for Fox's comic film slate. And he's not even good at that. He just recycles buzz words like "grounded blah blah" and disingenuously dances around issues. I'm not buying any of it.

Well Kinberg claimed that they just had 3-4 days of additional shooting, however we know that they also appear to be doing stuff in Romania and there are rumours that the shooting had been going on for a while before Kinberg made the comment.

Me saying "disingenuous" is being kind.

Yeah this production has had more than a few denials that have turned out to have some truth.

This is tragic.

You're getting a serious FF movie after two moronic ones ten years ago with better actors, a better director and written by Days of Future Past's Simon Kinberg. You're getting Negative Zone exploration, real character development and above all an approach to the FF that feels passionate. I'm reading through your posts and you constantly single yourself out as a true FF fan. Why the commitment to negativity? How is that benefiting you? I refuse to believe you didn't like anything in that trailer. I love the FF and I loved the trailer. We're getting the Nolan treatment for the FF. That was a pipe dream a decade ago.

I see many FF fans in this forum that are sadly more committed to Disney than to the FF. Disney isn't doing FF movies. Its ridiculous to deny yourselves a great FF movie over nonsense like the studio making it. I wouldn't care if the BBC produced this movie or Annapurna or WWE Films. Who makes these movies shouldn't be a factor, only that the characters are being treated seriously.

Honestly. I feel like you signed up on the hype just to argue with us and put words in our mouth.

Yeah, I think Bell was miscast, but it would have been heaping absurdity on stupidity if they still made him a linebacker (I'm not criticizing his acting ability, I'm just not sure if he's the right fit). Unfortunately, Baseball doesn't really come off as street tough Jewish kid anymore. It's not the 1940s, so Basketball wouldn't work either. Football would have been the best fit anyway but he doesn't have the look for anything except for one of the skilled positions (QB, WR, CB) and I don't think that would have worked either.

It's a moot point now, but he's probably big enough to play safety for a small or medium sized college.

There was a guy who lived down the hall from me at Penn State named Ray Isom and he was listed at 5'9" 190# (I'm pretty sure he wasn't that tall, but I'd never say it to his face :cwink:).

After they beat Miami in the Fiesta Bowl for the National Championship he told me: "Coach Paterno told us Testaverde was too good and their receivers were too fast for us to prevent them from catching some balls . . . but he told us we could make them wish they hadn't.":awesome:

And that strategy worked. After the Miami receivers caught the ball, little Ray Isom and the other secondary players beat the snot out of them and they had alligator-arms through most of the game.

Penn State’s secondary had its hands full, but they were determined to make Hurricane receivers hurt for every reception. After knocking a catch out of Michael Irvin’s hands earlier in a first quarter drive, safety Ray Isom smacked Irvin after an over-the-middle reception and forced a fumble.

And Jumper. And its not just the Fox comic films, he is also heavily involved with the new Star Wars stuff, both as a writer and producer on Rebels and some of the new films.

You forgot "gritty" :cwink:

Pretty sure everyone prefers 616 but we're not getting 616. Does that mean you have to boycott UFF? UFF is still FF and its good stuff. This scenario happens all the time with comic book movies. You always have a version/run of the characters you prefer but they end up using a different one. At the end of the day if they nailed that other version - you still have a great movie based on a character you love in your hands.

Most of the people I know who read Batman loved the Nolan films but are ten times more excited for Snyder's take because it isn't as grounded.

But this is clearly not ultimate either, aside from the negative zone being the source of their powers and the youth of the cast. That suddenly DOES NOT make it Ultimate Fantastic Four: the movie

Just like Eddy Brock Jr, didnt make spider-man 3 based on ultimate spiderman, or a black nick fury making the marvel cinematic universe ultimate based

No, no, no. What ruins discussion is you trolling this forum. I joined to voice my interest in the film after seeing the trailer and all I see is you holding the forum hostage with petty condescension. Why don't you stop wasting time on something you hate and focus your posting on stuff you like? And no I'm not using the ignore button. Trolling shouldn't go unopposed.

PS, welcome to the hype... now, understand the majority on the hype either have no interest in this film at all or passionately hate it. And have been fighting it since FOX announced the film. Those leople are just as justified to be here as you are. If you dont like negativity then block people or go play elsewhere

Otherwise things wont get better for you

Yeah I don't get it. Does he have pictures of studio execs cheating on their wives or something?

Its not about studios not having new ideas. Its studios feeling inspired by what he did with his Batman films. Batman Begins proposed the idea that you could do comic book movies seriously. The Dark Knight proved it.

I love that the FF are getting this treatment. I never thought they would and seeing them in a serious sci-fi venture is very exciting.

The Negative Zone, Mole Man, Doom, The Surfer, Skrulls, Galactus...we can now have in a serious manner.

You mean you'll keep trolling?
Thats just it though. This tone is not what the fantastic four is about. A dark and gritty tone works for batman, daredevil, punisher, etc characters with dark stories that match their tones. Fantastic Four has never really been known for that, and it simply doesnt fit what they're about.

dark gritty and serious doesnt suddenly make everything better either. Its a cheap easy ploy to filming to garnish attention to weaker minds imo. Its a cheap ploy to get butts in seats. The first xmen movie tried to take this route because they had no faith they could get the audience to take them seriously. Now we love in a world of much more colorful superhero films... first class, dofp, the entire mcu, these films have a much brighter color pallet serious films but still a lot of fun as well.

thats how the ff should feel. Theyre imagineers and adventurers, explorers They should also be fun for all ages. Thats what makes them special

this tone slapped on the F4 feels like when we went from burton to schumacher. It just doesnt fit the characters

Well he's welcome to gush about the film all he wants but it appears to me like he is making ad hominem attacks to further his agenda. Let's just discuss the movie already.

They could have also just as easily made him a quarterback. Which ... at least he'd still be a football player

Speak for yourself. I want to see Galactus on the big screen in his big purple suit and funky head dress. I do not want to see him reimagined Nolan style. I want to see Dr. Doom in his iconic suit of armor and green cloak. His look is as iconic as Spider-Man's. I do not want a Dark Elf knockoff hobo dressed in garbage bags. And how the hell would Nolan do Silver Surfer? Not saying it couldn't improve but the look of the Surfer is one of the few things they did a good job of in the Story films.

A Nolan style film is adapted to fit in the real world, FF4 is fantasy and should be treated as such. No matter how you play it, there is nothing real world about a guy who can stretch ridiculous lengths, a girl who can turn invisible, a guy who becomes a human torch at will without serious consequences to his health and a walking, talking rock.

I like Willie's idea of making him a scrappy safety. It's still a stretch but it's better than baseball.

What is wrong with Ben as a ballet dancer? Bell can totally sell that and come off looking semi credible as a tough guy. He would rock the tutu.

Bell appears to be about a buck fifty. Contact sports were out of the question for Benji after his casting.

So I would imagine Ben being Reed's protective big brother in their college (or schools days as the case may be here) will be off the table too.

Hard to picture a wee Bell fending off a hoard of bullies about to give Reed a swirlie...

This is pretty much a faithful UFF adaptation.

Reed and Been get invited to the Baxter Institute by Franklin Storm, father of Johnny and adopted father to Sue, for a N-Zone experiment based on Reed's work Also present is Victor. During the experiment, something goes wrong, and young Reed, Ben, Johnny, Sue, and Victor get abilities

Sounds like UFF to me.

The only difference seems to be that, as opposed to building a straight forward portal to the N-Zone, they build a teleportation pod (ala The Fly :cwink::facepalm:) to the N-Zone.

I guess the primary difference I see (and this may not necessarily be a matter of 'faithfulness' as story/pacing/editing) is that after a relatively quick accident, we ended up with a young, bastardized version of the FF that got into action fairly quickly.

In this case it looks like the story will be bogged down with going back and forth to the 'N-Zone':whatever: with the military getting involved and the primary story being the four struggling to learn and manage their powers, build 'containment suits' etc. - instead of that just being a few quick panels.

I mean if we had seen something like this:

Ultimate_Fantastic_Four.jpg

In the trailer, I wouldn't be as nervous as I am now.

It seems they're not just using a quick UFF based origin, but rather expanding and changing that origin to fill an entire film.

:o Thanks. But There have certainly been moments I've been on the verge of unhinged.

And I still have hope this film will feature the FF (and Doom), but I certainly can't see either in that trailer and we haven't heard any promises from those involved that we'll get what I'm hoping for.

Which were the BEST MOMENTS EVER ON THE FANTASTIC FOUR FORUM.

:oldrazz:

Cracked.com just ripped this trailer to pieces.

Fanfourstic lol

Really? I will have to check this out. Did they use screen shots from this forum again....hahaha.
