Stan would OK a turnip dressed up in a Thor costume if they threw enough fx behind it.

Kinberg's stock has been rising at FOX though. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a position that some thought Millar would have in the FOX-verse. I think Singer, Vaughn and Kinberg are the "brain trust" over there these days.

Vaughn's quotes regarding superhero films may have put him outside the inner circle:

"People want fun and escapism at the moment," he said. "Look at the success of Guardians of the Galaxy. I think Nolan kick-started a very dark, bleak style of superhero escapism, and I think people have had enough of it."

I bet FOX execs are jealous that they don't have a fun, colorful, wacky and family-friendly Marvel property that features a terrifying looking powerhouse with a heart of gold, a twisted genius, a carefree ladies man and a powerful warrior woman.

This explains a lot of the Marvel adaptations that appeared from the mid 70's up until maybe Blade in the late 90's.

:hehe:
True, his glowing endorsement doesn't really carry as much weight as one would like to think.

You believe what you want for what ever your reasons are, a quick look at Vaughn's filmography reveals a film maker that indeed goes dark and when there is humor, it's certainly not on the light and snappy side. It can in fact be quite dark and adult.

I truly love that this happened. I really do.

Which has nothing to do with what he said, since he's talking about the superhero landscape as it is NOW.

You're not alone.
"Yeah, people are sick of dark and bleak movies, they want fun and escapism. Whats that? Oh yeah, go see our lo-fi and gritty take on the Fantastic Four in theaters August 7th!"

Vaughn's stuff is never dark for dark's sake, he's usually doing it to poke fun at that type of story.

"You believe what you want for whatever your reasons are" - What the hell is this supposed to mean? I'm quoting the man, word for word.

Vaughn obviously believes that "light and snappy" is the way to go at this time, which puts him in an unconfortable position regarding the tone of Trank's adaptation.

Or they can just do this to achieve that:

Yeah for some reason I feel pretty safe in saying there's no Stan cameo in this one. But Trank pinky swears he has his blessing!

I think the last time Stan Lee appeared in a Fox film was ROTSS, however he has still been in the Marvel and Sony films.

But isn't that Fantastic F-OOOOOOOOOH!.

I see what you did there. :cwink:

I would have loved it if it had happened 2 years ago.

Now, it's just rubbing our faces in the deuce he just dropped.:cmad:

Not sure I would've put it that way. And its not really Vaughn, so much as Kinberg and Trank.

I actually blame someone like Vaughn more than Trank. Trank is just a sophomore director with a bad idea of how to make an FF film. If Vaughn and other management at Fox didn't give him millions of dollars to make this film, he'd just be a sophomore director with a bad idea of how to make an FF film and it would have ended there. None of us would know or care who Josh Trank is if Vaughn had either let the rights go or invested to make the film he now admits should have been made instead.

I wouldn't even blame Vaughn in the scenario. The people at fault for this getting made (not the way its being made, which is Trank's fault) are the executives who are more concerned with playing keep away from Marvel, as opposed to good films.

They didn't care how this film came out. They hired Trank, who was hot at the time, and slapped Vaughn's name on it (since he was coming off First Class).

Well he ok'ed a frog dressed as Thor. :o

Stan wasn't EIC when Simonson did that, I think Jim Shooter was (Stan stepped down from the helm some time before that). That 'Frog of Thunder' story was great fun btw, lol :cwink:

I think Stan has always played it a bit shrewd with any adaption to either TV or films, never bad mouthing them before they are released, but he will sometimes air his dislike for something in them after they have been & gone so there's been some time for his hindsight to not sour any relations he has with the respective studios.

And Marvel's Senior Vice President just commented again on the film

http://brevoortformspring.tumblr.co...ore-good-super-hero-movies-in-the-world#notes

Marvel has enough on their plate and still have yet to develop Eternals, Thunderbolts, Blade, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Elektra, Punisher and Ghost Rider. We also don't have solo spin-offs for Black Widow or Hawkeye. The idea that Marvel would suddenly drop everything and shoehorn the FF into their plans ASAP is preposterous.

It's a good thing no one is proposing they "drop everything and shoehorn them in" then, isn't it?

They'd be better off unused than used poorly.
