I agree I think it's a waste of time to boo. I think it's really sad if you go to the panel just to boo. BUt if that's how some want to spend their day and money that's on them. I just would never do that.

But I don't get, by your logic, why they shouldn't buy off reviewers. I really don't see the difference. You want them to hire people to fake their excitement, so why not hire reviewers to say they like the film? Better PR then having to twist the critic's words (which no one buys nowadays) is to actually have a lot of good reviews.

There's a big difference from buying off reviewers and buying people to cheer at comic-con. Reviewers/critics would have at least seen the film (when they publish their review even if its not a genuine review).... which cannot be said to people at Comic-Con that would just cheer to quiet down the boos (who also haven't seen the film).

I can't believe this is something that is actually being debated. It's hilarious

I don't think you actually believe any of your posts on this forum, but just in case - what makes you think Doom will be the best villain? Kebell's silence? The slight head turns from the ads? The blogging? The name change to Domashev? His wacky new power set?

:hehe:
Slight head turns made me laugh.
But yes I agree, we've seen or heard nothing that makes Domashev sound like a credible villain.

There is not much of a difference. Both times you are buying someone's opinion. Doesn't matter if it was written (critics) or just audibly said (potential boo'ers at Comic Con) .

At this point, I have to pull a:

At first this convo was so out there that it was hilarious like Flint Marko said. But it's gone into sad territory for me.

If you really don't get why people were kinda side-eying you for wanting a studio to buy positive reception/good buzz then...I don't even know

Like because you have seen the film already... okay.

....

It's been awhile since I've wondered off onto these threads. Rather dark and grungy from what I can see. Perhaps we should all WATCH the film first before we make a FINAL verdict of calling it cow dung: if you don't like it after that, all the power for you to complain.

I probably won't see it because the people making the film haven't given me any reason to see it.

Film-makers don't have the luxury (as Trank seems to think they do) of convincing fans their film is good after the fans have seen it.

If they don't make the film look good before it's released, people like me will stay home.

A year and a half ago, I was a sure thing. "Take my money now please. I just can't wait to finally see a good Fantastic Four film."

For Fox to have blown it with someone like me - a fan who will see almost anything FF (including the Roger Corman effort) - is a failure of epic proportions and a squandering of what would have been easy money.

If they had made a bad film that looked like Fantastic Four, they could have at least counted on money from people like me. Making a bad film that also doesn't look like Fantastic Four gets them money from no one.

Say what you want Blackman... but I don't see a big deal with planting people to cheer for the film to quiet down the boos from the people who haven't seen the film yet.... anyway, if it was up to me. I would not let any booing to happen from the people who haven't seen the film yet to just ruin the promotion. You could boo once you see the film, but until that happens, nope.

It honestly never occured to you that fake reviews could be posted by people who haven't seen the movie? lol

The point is that both are equally dishonest attempts to create false positive PR and silence honest negative opinions. That's why people find it crazy you would literally call for Fox to do just that. As has been pointed out there are already safeguards in place to keep the crowd under control. There's no need to stoop to that level.

I think we should just agree to disagree.

Otherwise, I think as a film it seems intriguing. I suppose I'm routing for it because no one else will, and I've always liked those kind of odds on my side... and to be fair, never been a huge fan of Fantastic Four. :oldrazz: I dig the cast and the direction of the film, so primarily... I guess it's going in a fresh direction that I want to see for F4.

I understand that people who have never been fans of the Fantastic Four are looking forward to this film. This is extremely common among poster on this thread who support this film. If I had to guess, I suspect that the overwhelming majority of people who buy tickets to Fant4stic on opening weekend won't be fans of the FF.

But try to keep in mind that there are actual FF fans on this board, and we have been waiting for a competently made film featuring our favorite superhero team for decades. In the golden age of superhero films, in which many of our beloved characters are being shown in all their glory on the big screen, we are stuck with the two Story films and the cheap rights grab known as FFINO.

Longtime fans don't want a "fresh direction". We want the FF. And its a damn shame we may never get them.

See Im not even a huge fan of Fantastic Four.
Not that I dislike them, but my reading of them is very limited.

Going with that, I still am not excited for this movie. They just haven't done anything marketing wise to make me thing "Wow I really want to see this" or hell even "Eh I'll catch it on RedBox"

I mean yeah, not using the suits, making Doom not that appealing does affect the fanboy side of my opinion; but just looking at it as a moviegoer, I cant get behind this.

I can't get over how awful Doom looks. Deal-breaker right there.

I'll admit that that poster right there is the best piece of marketing I've seen for this movie. I actually think it looks pretty damn cool. If only I hadn't seen all the other underwhelming TV spots and promo materials that would dampen my potential excitement.
But yes, Doom right there doesnt look good. He has more than a passing resemblance to the Doom from the Story films.

That's why I said Doom was the deal breaker. The rest of the poster does actually look pretty decent... aside from Teller standing around doing nothing - let's not actually show him stretching - God forbid!

But they done screwed up the most important "Things". Electro-Colossus Doom 2.0 and thing-less Thing.

But what do we know? We're just a bunch of stupid fan boys. Trank is going to take us all to school. That's his purpose in life. *****e.

Yeah the Thing is really poor looking. I'll say it again, I was really digging him the first two times we saw him in promo pics. But the more we saw of him the worse it got.
I don't have any hope for Doom, who is without a doubt one of my favorite villains of all time.

And Doom doesn't look good ANYWHERE. What was wrong with giving him his iconic mask? And WTF is with the vents where his mouth should be? What is that? Is he now some kind of filter feeder like a baleen whale? Does he eat plankton?

Doom can't eat and Thing can't $#*!

I'm not a big fan of anything other than FF, but I have read comic books, seen cartoons etc. that featured other characters. So when I see a film featuring Iron Man or Thor or Spider-Man and they look and act like those characters from the comic books, I enjoy watching the film. If any of those characters had been as unlike their comic-book counterparts as the FF is, I probably wouldn't have seen any of those films.

I think hard-core fans are much more sensitive to subtle changes, but even casual fans want to see characters closer to what they know than Trank and Kinberg are giving us here.

There's new three posters!

CJdRwgIUEAAE6Jx.jpg

I have 3 points to comment on.

1) Why are all the new posters and such being released in other countries? Is the US basically being written off?

2) The Thing's giant elongated egg shaped head makes him look dumb. Not "dumb" as in I don't like the looks of that....but "dumb" as in mentally impaired, not intelligent, would have trouble adding 1+1.

3) Some people had said in the past, that Doom's look would change to the more smooth metal mask look in the movie instead of the melted "scabby" look in the quick shots of the trailer.....well, they put the melted scabby look on the poster, so I would conjecture it stays.

Doom can't eat and Thing can't $#*!

:funny:

Every time I see Batman in his Superman-fighting suit, I think: "Why is Batman a better Dr. Doom than Dr. Doom is?"

I have to disagree...

We don't know if Thing can "$#*!" or not, we do however know for sure that he can't "pee".

You're actually serious....

Trank laughed it off, made jokes and rolled with the punches?

wow...
