James Gunn proved a Celestial could be done right in a very brief expository scene. It's not the source material, it's the boneheads adapting it. A Fantastic Four film could be a tremendously good film. It needs to be approached with a love for the Fantastic Four.

I guess Fox loyalists are doing the same on these boards. They disappeared. XD

Or they've gone back to the X-Men forums, because much like Fox-Marvel, don't care about this IP.

It was all about crossing over into (and frankly breathing new life into) the X-franchise, the only Marvel IP Fox has ever given respect to,even though I don't care for their take.

Fox puts people who don't like or understand FF on it. They crap all over everything and then say: "See? FF sucks. Nobody wants to see an FF film.":cmad:

Well it isn't hard. It's, "family with incredible powers in a sci-fi film." That's pretty easy to understand.

Can you believe that after four films we have never seen Franklin or Val Richards? Or even most of their enemies? We got a comic-accurate Doom with the 1994 film but a horrible Mole Man. Then we got an In Name Only Galactus with the Story films. Now we're getting Doom in a fourth film. Why can't we get some new villains? Why is it always Doom?

Doom is easily the most iconic FF villain. Studio heads think he simply must be there. Hell, look at this film...

SPOILERS

It sounds like the villain for the story they wanted to tell should have been Annihilus.

This was IMHO destined to happen.

Fox only made this movie because they had to.

The great thing is, Marvel got back Daredevil and we got a fantastic show out of it. A show that is IMHO overrides all the bad FF crap. Just think about this, Marvel and Disney offered Fox to KEEP Daredevil so they could reboot that film just so they could BORROW Galactus and Silver Surfer. This means, Fox gets to keep Daredevil and make their gritty 1970s French Connection or whatever Daredevil reboot AND Fantastic Four. But guess what? Fox said no!

And you know what? That makes me happy. I'm happy because Marvel got Daredevil back and that show just beats about everything. To think we almost got it just so Marvel Studios could use Silver Surfer and Galactus in all the cosmic stuff coming up. IMHO, that's not a fair enough trade.

I feel like we got the better end of the deal because Daredevil completely returned to Marvel and we are getting awesome shows out of that. Fox keeps their FF stuff and make an awful FF movie. I feel it was worth it because it would've happened regardless. Fox was not letting go of FF. This had to happen. Just like with Spider-Man, Elektra, Ghost Rider, etc. This is the course of how all things eventually return to Marvel.

Annihilus, done right in the Negative zone with lots of alien creatures could have been a great, unique film.

Moleman, done right in subterranea with lots of creatures and monsters could have been a great, unique film.

Doom, done right in Latveria with Doombots and other androids could have been a great, unique film.

But we got this lifeless crap.:cmad:

Yeah and as a fan of both villains, why they went with Doom yet again is baffling. It's proof that Trank doesn't understand the characters. He feels that by combining two of them together, he'll get a villain who's twice as great... but not really. He just wound up with a villain who lacks the elegance of Doom and the horror of Annihilus.

I agree. . . but Fox reportedly spent $122 million. Even if they made this film out of necessity rather than the right reasons, they could have put a director on it who actually liked Fantastic Four. $122 million may not be enough to do a huge, epic FF film, but with MUCH better decisions, they still could have made a much better film. I mean it would almost be impossible to make a worse film. Just take every decision they made on this film, do the opposite, and you've automatically got something better.

Or Wizard, Mad Thinker, Psycho Man, Blastaar, Terminus, Galactus, Terrax or Molecule Man.

There's a good variety of villains to use. I don't think that we're getting the villains we deserve and both the FF and their enemies would be better served in the MCU where we know that Marvel won't do a film unless they have a script in place.

I agree, to be honest, I don't even think Bryan Singer understands the X-Men either.

Fox lacks someone like Feige.

You mean an older Reed, thicker Ben and a Doom who isn't tied to the FF's origins and is saved for the sequel? That and adding in some action scenes to the 1st and 2nd acts? Cause that's what I'd do. That and I'd get a director who respects the audience. I already posted an outline in this thread of how I'd tackle a reboot. More action, more humor and getting all four members to interact with each other. That and going further into sci-fi. Start off with an alien world and then go into a terrible accident in space before having a showdown on a space station that's crashing down to Earth. That's a big, big story that would stick with people. You'd have the humor of the Tim Story films mixed with the character development of the Trank Film but with a lot more action and thrills and come out feeling like you just went on a crazy adventure.

Not surprised at all at some of the negative reviews surfacing up. I've read 2 interviews in the past few days from cast/production, and both sounded almost apologetic for the film - it's usually pre-release interviews where they are telling you how fantastic (no pun intended) it is.

So, who y'all want as the antagonist(s) in a theoretical reboot? Lately I'm leaning towards some giant monster stuff. Heck, open the film on an action scene with an already established FF in a direct homage to this:

From what I'm reading about the trank film is that they aren't really getting all that great character development.

And the Tim Story films weren't all that funny. I'm talking about doing what both of them tried to do but doing it better.

All in all, i really think the F4 could a shot of antman playful energy, along side a shot of ironman 1 strength and development with a mix of gotg adventure and weird factor, and explore the villain as much as the heroes.

The Incredibles proves all the "unable to make a good FF film" talk wrong.

A Brad Bird FF film :hmr:

Also Alice Eve for a Sue that doesn't fell like a third-wheel. Please.

Dude's busy until 2019. I say cut a check to Fox if you must and get Peyton Reed to do the MCU FF.

Problem with Fox FF films is that they don't have the heart that The Incredibles had, on top of being boring and uninspired. The FF should be the most out there wacky zany sci-fi CBM there is and they consistently manage to make the films bland. They just don't get it. FF should be borderline Doctor Strange in space. AND THEY KEEP GETTING DOOM WRONG ON TOP OF FORCING HIM IN AS THE MAIN VILLAIN OF EVERY FILM. SMH SMH!!!

As much as it sucks, you can't do Doom again for years. He's already been in three films and done terribly each time. You would have to go with a completely different villain first.

For obvious reasons, there won't be a Goblin in the next Spider-Man film.

That's too bad.

I really liked Ant-Man so I wouldn't mind Peyton Reed. And I agree, give Fox X-Men TV rights or something and get the F4 back as quickly as possible to plan for a future film.
