A Fantastic Four film by Marvel Studios - and ONLY Marvel Studios is still possible. If they got the rights back, they could introduce the characters in various Phase 4 films or a solo film. I think they could even build-up Galactus as the next global threat after Thanos. If not Brad Bird directing maybe James Gunn?

Since Spider-Man is kinda in the same boat at the moment as far as public perception goes, I think the next Spider-Man is a good way to gauge public interest on how soon is "too soon" If Marvel Studios manages to make a Spider-Man that wows alot of people then there's no reason this can't happen with FF.

Is it just me, or could anyone else see a Star Trek-type sci-fi show on Netflix with the FF? It could give us a spectacular version finally, but in a different form than what Fox has been giving us...

Also, Jesus, that RT score. Those negative reviews. Ouch.

Fantastic Four is meant to be a movie. Don't want a Netflix show. I thought a Daredevil TV show would be awesome (and it was) because the medium fit the character. In FF's case, they are a property that should be solely on movie screens due to the budget constraints of TV. They're meant to be a romping spectacle.

I agree with most of what you say, but there are decades of Star Trek/Battlestar Galactica/Babylon 5 that say good, imaginative sci-fi with heart and soul is possible on TV.

Besides, even if Marvel gets the rights back, it is doubtful that we'll be seeing a F4 movie anytime soon, the way Fox has botched this property. How they couldn't give us an awesome funny and deep F4 film after Guardians blew up is beyond me.

"Maybe the Fantastic Four just aren't meant for a live action movie." ~Comingsoon.net

Ouch.

Put a blind man in the driver's seat of a Buick. Tell him to drive to the corner market. You're going to have a mess on your hands.

That doesn't mean driving is inherently difficult. It's just difficult for the blind man.

Here's how easy this is: Hire Ridley Scott. Give him a copy of the Corman script and a stack of comic books. Have him make some revisions to the script as he sees fit, use the comic books for production design and inspiration for the script and get to it.

There, simple.

You've got a film better than anything Fox has ever made just like that. Of course they could and should do something much better than that, but I'm just illustrating that the basic concept of making a good FF film isn't that difficult.

It's just making a film based on the comic-books. Lots of people have been very successful at doing just that - just not Fox with Fantastic Four.

Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy are much more difficult to adapt than FF.

Yeah, F4 should be easily adaptable to the big screen. It's probably one of the most suitable comic book franchises for that medium.

Compare it to GoTG, Ant-Man and even Doctor Strange. Fox has it easy but still couldn't deliver. I don't know whether it's sheer incompetence or just disinterest.

I hope they don't f*** up Deadpool. I personally think Deadpool is better suited for a Rated-R Netflix series than a standalone feature film.

Hm, I don't disagree with you, but to take inspiration from those TV shows kind of limits FF to me. That space adventuring, alien discovery is just one side to the FF. I wouldn't mind it as a side piece or something, in that case it would be interesting. But a TV show to me wouldn't do justice to things like the Negative Zone and its inhabitants, the FF's powers, not to mention Galactus and Silver Surfer.

I agree Marvel will be hard pressed to make a solo film anytime soon. I think the best we can hope for is that Fox gives up and lets Marvel have them back, Marvel gives them a sizeable role in IW, and they come out of that as the scene stealers like Hulk in Avengers 1, and that helps kick start anticipation/hype for a solo movie. Start hinting at Galactus and Silver Surfer in Guardians and Captain Marvel. Have Doom hinted at in IW as well, maybe somehow Black Panther too, some dealing with Latveria or something.

Deadpool looks awesome to me. They have the right people on that movie, I'm not really worried about it.

Good try Fox....good try. Now can we stop screwing around and get an MCU FF movie now?

I feel like one area where Marvel Studios succeeds and FOX fails is when it comes to changing the source material. Marvel Studios knows when it's okay to tweak certain things, and how far they can go without losing what makes the property great.

FOX isn't afraid to change things, but they change the wrong things. They think, all we need is to do is get close enough to the material but have the attitude of, "We're gonna put our own spin on this thing! We're gonna make it ours!"

And I feel like it's more important to tell a good story (from which they have over 50 years of stories to draw inspiration), and to treat the source material with respect than it is to put an original spin on a story and a group of characters that the whole world knows and loves.

so from what ive seen on twitter fox has went ape **** at negative reviews breaking the embargo but have went and released the movie early in the uk

do they understand a thing called the interent:loco:

also i knew this would be crap but is it true we actually get an emo dr doom sitting in a hoody brooding in a basement

I'd have thought it way too late to do that? It's going on wide release from tomorrow here anyway. Just checked my local one and there's no change from what I saw there on Monday: First showing ('Advance screening' as they call it) is Thursday 11:30am.

Yeah, we've talked a little bit over the months about how just keeping your eye on simple things would help give fans more of what they want. If you insist on doing 'containment suits', why not make them blue instead of black/brown?

If you want a younger cast, why not at least cast a Reed who can look/act more mature than Johnny? Is it so hard to find a a big, strong actor who can play Ben?

You don't have to keep everything identical to the comic-books, and nobody is asking for that, but keep certain key things. Marvel thinks about that and puts serious effort into keeping certain elements.

With this film, Fox almost seemed to have a chip on their shoulder and they intentionally wanted to change things for no good reason just to show us they weren't afraid to do so.

Disappointed about the reviews, I will still be going to see this as my friend still wants to but my anticipation is right down. I have enjoyed poorly reviewed movies before so I hope I can get some enjoyment out of this one.

It sounds like this started off as an interesting film though, with the praise for the first half, but then the studio has stepped in and changed things dramatically, which surprises me as since Rothman left Fox usually give a lot of freedom to directors. Sounds like the more interesting version of the movie has been left on the cutting room floor though.

I really don't think that's the case. Fox wanted a cheap film to hold on to the rights, and I believe Trank offered them that, and let him make the film he wanted. Fox is alot less hands on with these films since Rothman left, as seen with Kingsmen, and the upcoming Deadpool. I personally believe they made those changes as they were deeply unimpressed with Trank's original cut, and had to try and salvage it to no avail.

Remember that conversation the other day where people were saying Fox was taking advantage of people being confused between Fox & the MCU ?

When Meyers asked if Teller received any perks from his superhero role, Teller recalled waiting in line at an airport one day and being approached by a security guard.

“This security guard comes up and says ‘Follow me.’ Like, ‘Oh my god, what’s in my backpack,’” Teller said.

The security guard took the actor aside and said, “You really think Mr. Fantastic has to wait in line?” and welcomed him to the Marvel universe.

If the security guard had done more homework, Teller would have been getting a full cavity search.:cwink:

Just looking back at the "early" review by dony2012 that he swore was true....he didn't get a single thing the same as the new reviews say happened.

I've seen some people on Twitter lambasting Marvel STUDIOS for rebooting F4... Oy.

On a side note I don't think that means Marvel can't make an FF movie soon. (well, Phase 3 soon I mean) Yes...the brand has been damaged but Marvel has created a strong level of trust among the GA and fans alike. If Marvel were to add FF to their phase 3 MCU I think it would draw in a great crowd and wash away the sour stink of past efforts.

Also...I feel kind of bad for the actors.....

It would be perfect timing for Phase 4

Fox did Marvel a favor by making this look so unlike FF. It will be very easy for Marvel to differentiate themselves from this film if they choose to do so.

And they'd probably start by building enthusiasm with people like us. I can almost guarantee that if Marvel shows up to next year's Comic-Con with a a big :ff: logo and 2020 date, nobody will be saying: "Again?! Another FF movie?!" with disappointment or disdain. They'll be thrilled.

Fans will be excited and it will build from there.

Most people don't have a clue who the Inhumans are, but once they start seeing trailers, they'll get interested. And I don't know why people would be less willing to see a well-done FF film with a trailer that shows some really cool things than they would be to see something like Inhumans that they've never heard of before.

Blame Fox for that one. They probably saw TV Spots on TV / Online that only had the MARVEL Logo & not the Fox logo

Yeah I saw that too. That was messed up. Not only have Fox destroyed the Fantastic Four. Now they're damaging the Marvel brand. Combined with their dishonest critics spot during the embargo I find them down right despicable at the moment.
