Fantastic Four is down to 646 theaters. Ant-Man is at 1,354 theaters.

I really though that it would get old after awhile, you know, coming to this thread and seeing how badly this movie is failing, especially in comparison to Ant-man, but you know what? It really doesn't.

Normally it would get old, but after hearing the taunts of how the social media for this was somehow positive buzz, to how insignificant many fans concerns were when more and more things about this film (that came true) were revealed that put off many of us so casually dismissed, Trank's immature tweets/taunts, right up to denials of the review embargoes meaning anything...I can't help but enjoy this.

If this thing failed the same way it's doing now, but the opposition to concerns and the other points I brought up were not so arrogantly dismissed, I seriously could not possibly take as much glee in its failure as I do now and would have stopped peeking in this thread long ago.

I live in West Los Angeles. It's a pretty densely populated area and the closest it's playing is about 15 miles away. After that, it's out east and Orange County/Long Beach area.

It's gone......it's not even playing at the dollar theaters.

Not a bit of humility or respect for the fans.

"They'll see it anyway."----is, in fact, exactly the attitude that Trank and the studio took. No respect for the franchise, it's history or it's fans.

Simply, "we are making a comic book movie loosely based on the FF and you being a slavish and less than discerning group of moviegoers will go see it."

FF pulled in a mighty $42,631 yesterday, which if my math is right amounts to about $37.50 a theater. Since the average ticket price these days is something like $8.61, that means that "Fantastic Four" not only describes the movie, but the audience as well.

Yup.

You know, there are many movies I didn't enjoy and some movies I refused to see, but NEVER EVER have I taken such a delight in the utter failure of a movie.

Many years ago, this would have actually scared me as a failure for the genre would make other studios think twice about doing any superhero movies, but nowadays the genre is more hearty.

GenPop knows better and so do the studios. DC/WB are not going to clear their slate because of this bomb and Marvel Studios sure won't either.

The only studio really effected by this is Fox. They are proving that the only way they have a decent chance to turn out a good superhero movie is if it's somehow X-related as they are essentially 0-5 against for other Marvel comic properties.

Is that per screen or per showing? If they had 2 or 3 showings on the same screen, maybe the audience would be the Wonderful One or Tremendous Two??

They don't have a lot of capital built up like Marvel does.

And if Hugh Jackman isn't around for very long........

Right. I caught that. I really like Singer. The first movie I remember of his was "The Usual Suspects" and I have to say that it pretty much blew my socks off. If every movie was that good, I'd be spending a lot of time in movie theaters. I'd say it was maybe a step up from FF.

I can't believe this movie is still giving us some more reasons to make fun of it more than a month after its disastrous opening week end.

I actually compared it to Avatar in reverse because both box office totals constantly had my eye. It was like trying to take your eye off some sort of wreck. That and the box office holds were almost identical......

I think the words you were searching for was "after it has faded to crap". I don't see any way this has another 2.5M left in its tank.

Others know more, but it was only doing 40K a day before losing screens this weekend. Does it even do anything close to 300K after all of that?? Say it gets a Friday bump of 100% and gets 80K on Friday, another 50% on Saturday and falls back to Friday #s on Sunday. That's 280K.....gonna be tough to hit 56M with anything that approximates those numbers....

Yup. I've brought up the Jackman issue on a couple of occasions. He's by far the most popular character and it seems sort of hard to predict where X-Men will go without him. Originally I didn't think much about Singer, but after someone else brought it up, I couldn't agree more. What Fox really needs to do at this point is to continue with good X-Men movies (they don't have a lot of room for error in my opinion because they've had some past stinkers) AND come up with some good movies with strong box office numbers featuring new characters (like Marvel did with GotG and Ant-Man).

If they can do that, they are in the ballgame. If not, Fox's Marvel is likely in for some tough times. I think their credibility took a HUGE hit with this last disaster.

Still, the point remains....where would Fox's Marvel studio franchise be without Jackman? Or Singer?

My point is that they aren't really on very solid ground even now. Unlike Disney/Marvel, this could tip either way very easily.

Agreed, I just don't wanna put too much stock into those particular comments until they're proven to actually be legit.

Fox is desperate now and since it's more likely that Singer's comments about a F4/XM crossover were just hype/promo then so could him leaving X-men. It's not like his last 3 non Marvel films were really successful anyway.

Jackman is another story but if the money and incentive is there then he'll be back. But that's not to say that either of their next two films still can't crap because of their presence.
