Fast 8 - Part 1

This is officially the movie to beat this summer profit wise.

I really don't see anything else coming close to this this summer. Maybe DM3.

Box Office Mojo says the Japanese opening number was the biggest of the franchise for that country.

Guardians 2, Despicable Me 3, and maybe Spider-Man and Pirates 5 will cross a billion, but I can't see any of them making more than this. In fact, the only movie this year that will outgross it will probably be The Last Jedi.

Thank you. I was about to ask what DM3 was.

Congrats to Furious 8 for getting to a billion. I had fun with the film when I saw it opening weekend.

Profit wise this summer? The price for this movie wasn't cheap (at least 250m) and a lot of that money is coming from China. Say GotG gets to a billion, and 400m of that is domestic. Would probably be more "profitable". Despicable Me 3 will definitely be more profitable. The merch sales for those movies are insane and they are actually rather cheap compared to most "big budget" animated flicks.

Right now, the most profitable movie of the year has got to be BatB.

Well, revenue wise then. Joe Average only hears that the thing made a billion. Margins and costs rarely factor in when it comes to articles.

Okay, are you asking what is going to get the most attention, or which movie is going to end up the most profit or with the most revenue? I am confused. :funny:

Fast 8 is the bar other summer movies are going to try to beat so they can say they made a billion.

That's it, Darth. :o

They can make a billion and not pass Fast 8 terry. :o

That foreign box office is a monster these days for a lot of these films. 800 plus mil for Fast and Furious? Holy ****

How the hell is this franchise still alive?

A lot of people really enjoy them.

I was just gonna say this. I won't dispute that F8 being the juggernaut it is is indeed impressive but the fact that it cost so much and is doing pretty much all of it's business in foreign territories. In comparison, I'd definitely say the theatrical run of BATB is more impressive, even if F8 does pass its worldwide gross.

The same will likely be able to be said for GOTG 2, Despicable Me 3 and the like.

I'm happy for this series, i think it deserves it's success. They're fun movies, plain and simple. I mean, what other franchise in movie history can you go back and watch part 1 and put that side to side with part 8 and see such a stark departure from its roots but still retaining the story continuity and most of the same players from the beginning? I think it makes for a fascinating viewing journey to watch these movies back to back to back and watch the evolution unfold. What other movie franchise can you say this about?

It's now Hollywood's highest-grossing film in China. $360.4 million.

Domestic: $196,477,320 17.8%
+ Foreign: $904,303,263 82.2%
= Worldwide: $1,100,780,583

Should overtake BATB worldwide pretty soon.

Probably by next weekend, I think this Sunday will finish with 1.145B for F8 and 1.155B for BatB. Then BO from Japan will make BatB this year No 1 again till December.

Do you mean this year? Shouldn't it be Hollywood highest grossing film in China in 2017 on it opening Saturday? Because highest grossing of all time should be F7 with 390M.

Many deals with Satan of course.

Fast 1: team steals DVD players
Fast 8: team stops a nuclear submarine

I mean, it's a natural progression if you really think about it.
