Favorite action sequence in Man of Steel

yes. it's funny how people are so into a fight scene almost completely lacking in any real originality or character moments.

just a long boring punch fest with no character moments to really make you care or feel a nerdgasm.

compare this to the final Avengers battle.
Was there anything in the final MOS battle to compare with:

1. Ironman being thrown out of a window, putting the suit on mid air and flying back up to get some payback for Coulson.
2. The epic nerdgasm "i'm always angry" moment.
3. another nerdgasm moment when the full team assembles in the spinning shot
4. cap giving out his orders capping it off with "And Hulk....SMASH!"
5. The EPIC continuous shot of the entire team working as one.
6. Hulk punching Thor
7. Loki catching Hawkeyes arrow only to be pwned by the arrow being explosive
8. Hulk smashing Loki
9. IM making the suicide play and being saved by Hulk

There was simply NOTHING in the final MOS battle that compared to these moments. with that said the best action scene by far was the smallville battle.

Nice sarcastic post. How much better was it in Man of steel, with Superman fighting one on one with Zod and Faora? So much better than watching a bunch of nameless faceless alien robots, which was just ridiculous.

I love all those moments you mentioned but the when talking pure action choreography MOS dominates. This is coming from some one that $%^#&*$ loves the Avengers.

The Smallville fight was by far my favorite, the choreography, combinations, slams, and vehicle tossing made for an awesone action scene. The final fight with Zod was epic but it basically turned into a "see how much destruction we can cause" type fight.

Oh and it's a shame some people have to bag on other films to praise this one.

The choreography was fine but in general the scenes were horribly repetitive and disengaged me from the rest of the film.

The entire movie had 'see how much destruction we cause' action straight from Krypton till the end.

This is the action I've been wanting in a Superman film for so long. I really liked how they came up with ways to prevent an even fight between Zod and Superman until the end. I guess the final fight was my favorite action scene, although the all out brawl in Smallville was awesome, too.

Going to pick a moment to narrow it down further...

The behind the shoulder sequence was amazing.

hahahha um after Krypton there is about a hour and a half of absolutely no action. Sooo no

I'd take these action scenes which are the best I've seen over the Avengers any day of the week because these one at least respected the characters. The Avengers were too busy focusing on cringe worthy comedy that craps all over Loki, Iron man, face palming coincedences and Black Widow that it forgot about everything else. Captain America literally does nothing in the final battle, Thor who should easily be the star of the whole battle is barely seen and only uses his lightning twice even though it proves to be very effective. I understand why you barely see Hulk, he's expensive to do. That last bit with Loki was embarrassingly bad, they took a pretty cool villain and just went against everything for a stupid joke. Man of Steel respects its characters, it knows what they can do and they employ everything to try and beat each other. Zod is a real threat unlike the aliens who prove that they are worse combatants than Stormtroopers and Loki who does absolutely nothing during the whole movie. You want to see Zod destroyed because he has killed thousands of lives thus the battle is immediately more interesting. The type of destruction that they cause is exactly what I want in a huge super powered fight. Best action scenes ever in a comic book movie and they're up there with the all time greats

Avengers and MoS do two different things imo.

One is about moments but with a tone of nameless faceless enemies, the other is about a personal fight with a mad man father killer on a large canvas.

Meh, both had their pro's.
Batman vs bane had it's pros as well, Spiderman vs the Lizard..etc.

Cap and thor fall short imo.
The previous bat films as well.

The first Batman/Bane fight was about as good as you can get in these types of movies, IMO. Superman vs Zod and Faora was great in scale though.

Yea, Marvel doesn't respect adults is what it is. They respect money. As long as humans age and I get older I will never pay to see a marvel film again, unless I have kids. Iron man 3 was the last straw

i thought it was a brilliant comedy though

I thought Iron Man 3 was good, it has it's issues like all films but I dug it. I look forward to seeing if The Dark World is a huge step up from Marvel's second worst movie of their young company's life IMHO. I love Hemsworth as Thor so I hope they give him a worthy movie this time. But I digress, this thread isn't about Marvel.

I still think that Spider-Man vs the Green Goblin was the best fight in terms of intensity. It actually felt like Spidey could lose.

HOWEVER, Superman on Smallville is EASILY the best action sequence in a superhero movie. It's realistic looking and feeling, while being comic-bookish and intense at the same time.

Superman vs Zod was cool, especially the "space punch." But when it finally settled TO Metropolis, it got repetitive. Punch, smash, demolish. The sense of atmosphere and tension was lost on me.

Everything with Faora

QFT pretty much loved her in everything. Her hand-to-hand skillz were awesome. Just the surprise on Superman's face when she blocks his every move and proceeds to own him was epic. Best scene. She stole the show are far as action was concerned. :wow:

Overall I preferred the Smallville fight because the way Faora fought really adopted the visual language of things like Mortal Kombat XI, which I enjoyed.

However, something no one really comments on is the way Zod's power grows over the course of the Metropolis fight.

I really enjoyed the way how at first he couldn't quite fly and had to climb up the buildings.

The Metropolis fight played like a larger budgeted version of the climax of of Chronicle, even down to the way it ended.

I really don't understand the way negative reviews of the film exaggerate the length of that final fight scene.

For anyone attempting to bag on Man of Steel for not quite measuring up to the climax of Marvel's team up film (which is very debatable given the completely generic and faceless and loosely motivated threat they faced), please compare any of the actions scenes in Man of Steel to anything from the stand alone Marvel films.

End Thread.

I kinda noticed that the end fight sequences in MOS is a bit of influenced by AKIRA.

Because it felt somewhat repetitive, despite Zod getting more powerful it didn't mean much cause they were still crashing through buildings regardless.

I enjoyed the scene where superman fought against the Kryptonian man and woman. :wow: lol, Superman got knocked the bleep out!

Also, it gave them a LEGITIMATE criticism to fuel their illegitimate pre-conceptions. I even read a negative review complaining about the lack of Luthor and Kryptonite :)

i love the fight scene in smallville.
it's intense and chaotic.

The way all the buildings collapse none of the rubble actually touched the people, like Jenny, so after the fight they all popped out of it like they were moles. Zero casualties.
well man I think you are wrong... when missiles hit many people were killed and also the buildings when terraforming scene were many casualties... remember perry and co turned to the left or right... and even so jenny was injured...

I don't get it. I just don't get it.

For YEARS this is all people would say in regards to Superman films: "WE WANT A KNOCKDOWN DRAG OUT SUPERMAN BRAWL!!! WE WANT SUPERMAN TO PUNCH SOMETHING ALREADY!!! WE WANT SUPERMAN TO LET LOOSE!!!!!! WE WANT TO SEE WHAT HE IS REALLY CAPABLE OF ON THE BIG SCREEN!!!!"

And now, when we finally get it, it's this:"WAAAH TO MUCH ACTION WAAAAH!!! IN A SUPERMAN FILM!!!!!" WAAAH!!!"

What do you want? In a damn SUPERMAN film!!!??? Of all comic book characters, Superman is the one that truly deserves and justifies the amount of action Man of Steel provides. Do you not want Superman to be super!? I mean jesus....
Are you people ever happy? The action in this film is incredible in it's sheer voracity. While I love the action in The Avengers, Man of Steel makes you feel like you are more immersed in the action. The brawls had real speed and power to them. MOS is no more action packed than Avengers.

The last 40 or so minutes of Avengers is all action: Helicarrier fight...10-15 break...last battle.
Man of Steel: Smallville fight....10-15 minute break....Zod vs. Supes battle.

And whats with the tentacle hate? I loved them. It was very comic book.
