FF 2 Rate and Review Thread

^I sense they weren't all the emotional because well....the entire planet was about to go that route anyway. Galactus was minutes away from killing all of them, Sue just got it first.

That'd make it even more emotional for me. Knowing that the world is ending, too. =/

ok i saw the movie .
remember i didnt want to but i did. i am really sad that i spend money on this movie. i really could wait..

first let me say that i think this movie is dumb. but this is not a bad thing.

some questions that i have.

why did general told mr fantastic that he regrets that he trust him?
the guy who build a machine that could tell tehm where SS is? the team that helped to rescue the people in england?
he trusts a guy who is evil. a guy who tryed to kill the F4. a
ohhh and why did F4 worked together with dr doom? simple question: why?

and the movie is pure fantasy. it is not in the real world. it looks like a realistic world but there are no rules. if i would saw a duck talking to a blond girl i would not be surpised.
johhny falls from a building on a car and there is nothing wrong?

effects:
mr. fantastic effects were pathetic. its like watching ILM in the beginning of the 90's experimenting with CGI. yes i knwo that this was weta but this has nothing to do with weta.
again pathetic. there was no difference in the toch effects. it looked the same .but ok i am happy with that.
the best effects were from silver surfer. thank god.

ok now back to the story.
this movie is about the fantastic four. but silver surfer saves the whole world. and at the end.....nothing. what happened? nothing.
why did johnny and sue talked about their father? why should i care? i never saw him ...they never talked. they wasted 10 seconds for the: father would be proud. why waste another 30 seconds for the bear?
why are the clothes from mr. fantastic strechng? again WTF.

so basicly this is a kid movie. it is a movie on a level for kids under 10 years. it is a dumb kid movie IMO. people who are older than 10 can enjoy this movie only because of hte effects. ohhhh we are backto the effects. they are nto groundbreaking . but at least SS was amazing.

its a movie that you watch when you have nothing to do. it is IMO on the same level as scary movie 3,date movie, white chicks.

last questions: why is the fantastic car flyign so fast? how did it get so fast to them? how the f... is this possible?

and johhny flys extrem fast. is he superman?

3/10.
1 because of SS
2 because of SS
3 because of SS

i gave it a 3 only because of SS.

p.s. the voice os fishburne was idiotic. there was no reason to do this. i dont belive that this movie will make more money because of the name fishburne. doug has a nice voice and he could pull it off. dougs movement were also fantastic.

a disaster.

oHHHHHHHHHHHH after reading through this thread i forgot about a major thing.

dr doom. after he gets the board wha tdoes he do? he puts on the mask and he puts on hes suit. where did he got it? i thin we will never kwno. why did he put on the suit? why no explanation?

holly s..... this was just f.... up.

As far as the armor, while Doom is a genius, he's also nuts. He is. He's an insane individual. If he feels the armor adds something to his overall personage, he'll do it.
maybe you got this info from the comics. but this is a movie. now lets take me who didnt read the comics. why?

a simple question: why. there didnt explain it in the movie .

so its dumb because it makes no sense.

The whole team didn't seem incredibly sad that Sue was dying. They were sad, yes, but if my fiance/friend/sister was dying I'd be more emotional than they were, lol. Much more emotion could've been added to that scene.
Thank you, that I didn't get, esspecially Johnny's reaction it was like they barely cared. Reed shed in total like 2 tears!

I don't mind Doom coming back for 3.

Mostly because, as exemplified in BOTH movies, despite all his background/shady dealings, when it comes to actually 'throwin' down' he's pretty easy to dispatch...LOL.

:cwink:

Yeah I want Doom back! I love to hate him!

Haha... ha.

It was okay...6/10.

I mean I could rate it lower. Lord knwos it has its faults but Chris Evans' performance was so good in this and Silver Surfer is so awesome it passes into the "okay" margin.

To be more specific, I was disappointed in it as a comic fan but pleasently surprised after seeing the first movie. It is quite a bit better.

What I liked:
-The Silver Surfer was perfect. Possibly the coolest image I've seen in a superhero movie since Doc Ock in SM2. He was just all sorts of badass to look at. And while I was disappointed his character was not explored further. I think the focus on him as a threat worked quite well and he was sympathetic. And by the end of the movie I think general audiences will more likely go see a Silver Surfer movie than a FF3.
-Chris Evans and Michael Chicklis were a lot of fun in this movie. Johnny's turmoil was fun if shallow and the Thing and him going at it is always a joy. Their relationship is the most believable. And I honestly think the most realistic and human moment in the movie is between Johnny and Sue before she is about to get married. Very surprising in Alba.

Overall, I thought Alba was okay and servicable as opposed to her mediocre and laughable performance in the first movie. But she still really isn't Sue Storm. And Ioan Grufford is a decent supporting actor but is very bland as Reed Richards.

As for the rest of the group. It is good to see Dr. Doom being evil and sinister again. However, the military trusting Doom and Doom going pretty again was probably some of the dumbest writing I've seen in a superhero movie since...well X3.

But on the whole it is better than X3 or the first FF movie. Mostly because the Silver Surfer is such a cool story and character and I think the cast is getting more comfortable in their roles with Johnny and Ben really shining and Reed and Sue....doing okay. Surprisingly more Alba than Grufford which I did not expect.

As for what didn't work:

Pure and simple lazy directing and writing. The only real human moments in the movie as I said was when Johnny talked to his sister on her wedding day and when Silver Surfer lamented to Sue about his past. The resto f the movie felt extremely streamlined like the first one. The first 20 minutes other than Johnny's great quips (like selling the wedding photos) felt like a sitcom in the writing department.

Oh now Johnny and ben are going to get Reed in trouble with Sue at a bachelor party. Oh being a celebrity is hard. More celebrity jokes....it just felt manufactured and fake. Then the movie ipicked up at the actual wedding but again stinted itself with that sequence of power changing that again felt like FANTASTIC FRIENDS(tm): the sitcom including gratutitous hsots of Alba naked again.

It got better after they tried to capture Surfer in the woods. But this all circled around the stupidity of the military trusting Dr. Doom (again, WHY?) and the whole lack of pace. Honestly Story cannot sustain mood or tension in his movies. The pace is ridiculously low and comical. The ferris wheel and woods action scenes were boring and sloppy and his cinematography (which is as much to blame on the DOP) still is lazy and flat. The composition is too well lit and bright and fails to make anything or anyone stand out unless they're made of rocks. It's like the lighting of a comedy but not a good one like Knocked Up but more akin to Blades of Glory.

And then there is Galactus the cloud....but I'll give credit if I never read the comics it worked. He comes and is scary and ominous and the only scene besides the Torch vs. Surfer sequence that raises genuine tension (and the Cosmic Doom sequence was pretty cool too, except for how easily he was beaten at the end) and it was a good ending.

This movie had a satisfying ending unlike FF1's ending which felt like a studio commerical for Nikes and action figures or the ending of X3 which was hallow. There is some genuine love for these characters from Story unlike Ratner. But his ineptiude to create pace or get a movie with heart or some humanity and artistic merit through the studio system hurts this movie greatly (and it can be done as shown by the likes of Bryan Singer, Christopher Nolan and Sam Raimi).

In the end Surfer was awesome and Evans and Chicklis were at the top of their game. Alba was surprisingly passable, Doom sucked less and the movie had more suspense and genuine quality taht the first completley lacked. It still suffers from too much studio control and is too slick for its own good lacking the heart of the comics or this summer's last comic book movie, Spider-Man 3. It's pacing is non-existant, it isn't the best to look at and two of the five actoin scenes are as boring as X3 was.

But in the end it was....okay. A vast improvement upon the first but not really a good movie. Not a terrible one either. A mixed bag of fun and mistakes.

I voted average, by the way.

LF's voice was perfect for the Surfer. It captured the Surfer's emotion and distance perfectly.

Lol! Best Stan Lee cameo ever. "But I am Stan Lee!"

Thank you, that I didn't get, esspecially Johnny's reaction it was like they barely cared. Reed shed in total like 2 tears!

Well we can't all be Peter Parker and cry a glycerin river every time our girlfriend breaks up with us. :cwink:

Seriously though, Johnny's enjoyment of his 4x power as he kicked Doom's butt bothers me the more I think about it. He should have been off-the-chart furious, but cracking jokes and squeeling "wheee" as he used his stretching power to whip around a building spire. (Unless that's just in the ad?) It doesn't ring true. (But I admit it didn't occur to me at the time, probably because I knew of course that Sue would be fine.)
Anyway, it's definitely an emotional plot hole.
But certainly no bigger than the ones in Spidey 3 (which I did enjoy - just not as much as Spidey 2).

Most of these movies have lapses in characterization like this.
Truthfully, these inconsistencies usually bother me more than true plot holes.

That was his sister dying down there in the street.
Screw the supposed missteps with Galactus and the still-not "full" Doom.
Screw the short running time.
That was his sister.

Still loved it, though. :yay: Going back to see it again an hour from now.
Still head and shoulders above FF1, which is all that mattered to me.

And really, I hope the catty comparisons with Spidey 3 can be put aside. They're two different animals, and both are enjoyable despite their respective flaws.
We've got a hugely improved FF to enjoy right now.
And I'm betting both FF and Spidey will be even better next time out.

Johnny didn't cry, but as a macho guy, he probably tries no to. But, you can clearly see he is sad when Reed tells him to stay back when Sue is hurt.

I don't remember hearing a we or anything when he had the powers. Plus, note his reaction when he sees Sue when he comes back. The man cared.

Yeah its just I think it didn't show enough, but ahwell the film was still good!

I agree.... I think parents appreciate a movie they can take their kids too and have a good time themselves. Several posters here, like Malus, are taking great pleasure in being able to introduce their kids to the same characters that they loved as kids. Can't be anything wrong with that.

I went today and spent my movie money from the DVD...I went with a few friends.....and we loved seeing all the families....when we first got there we thought it would be about 1/4 full for this showing....by the time the trailers began the place was packed with families......it looked like they really enjoyed the movies....and it was awesome seeing the dads with their kids.....a great Father's Day...

All I heard him say was..."To quote a friend of mine, It's Clobberin Time"....I don't remember a "weeeeee" I heard a grunt, as in he was pulling himself around with as much power as he could get for the final go at Doom.

As far as the other's saying they should have been more upset about the world being destroyed........as far as Reed was concerned, he was holding his world in his arms, and it had already been destroyed. Damn, give him a few minutes to get through that....

the proble mis that peter shouldnt cry in that scene ....the 3 of them should. MJ just broke up with him. sue was death. big difference.

Why does everyone get on Peter for crying? The love of the man's life was breaking up with him. This is the women he wanted to marry? I think that is a good reason for water works. Not every guy is an emotionless, macho dude.

I don't get the hate.

he trusts a guy who is evil. a guy who tryed to kill the F4. a
ohhh and why did F4 worked together with dr doom? simple question: why?
Well the general needed help from the smartest and brightest people in the world...these are Reed and Victor.
The F4 worked with Dr.Doom because something greater was at stake...it was done before in plenty movies such as X-men 2.

and the movie is pure fantasy. it is not in the real world. it looks like a realistic world but there are no rules. if i would saw a duck talking to a blond girl i would not be surpised.
johhny falls from a building on a car and there is nothing wrong?
I agree with Johnny falling on the car but I'd walk out if there was a duck talking to a person...but thats just me

ok now back to the story.

Okay these are charecters and they have a past...they have a father and I dont see how a 10 second mention of him is a bad thing

and johhny flys extrem fast. is he superman?
Yes, he is superman....no but seriously I agree in a way. maybe it was an editing problem but the scene where
johnny is chasing the surfer...first hes in NYC...then he flies by the Washington DC needle, then he lands in sand dunes by a camp set up by arabs.

Yeah i know. If the woman of my dreams did that i feel the same way.

Most of us have yet to find a woman of our dreams that we pine over that bad. So we can call it quite "gay" or being a ***** until that time. :o
