FF 2 Rate and Review Thread

After Sue savid his life and he ressurects her i would have preferred something like this to what we got:

"Any creature that puts its life above that of another should be preversed, these were a part of my teachings on Zenn La. Treasure each moment with her, and tell her she was right......we do have a choice."
I would've liked that.

This movie stands up really well to repeat viewings. It's just very enjoyable and doesn't have those scenes where I feel like leaving to make a sandwhich till things kick up again (like the Spider-man and X-men movies). It's one thing to be well-written, it's another to be enjoyable. Shakespeare wrote some great stuff but I wouldn't grab a group of friends and pop in ye olde Hamlet DVD. I watch movies to enjoy myself. If I can't do that then the movie didn't do it's job in my opinion.

So you didnt find the X-Men movies and Spidey movies entertaining? Fair enough i suppose, even though i disagree :yay: .

And i think ROTSS does stand up to repeat viewings, but to a point, i have watched it about 6 times and am already getting a bit fed up of it to be honest, were as the likes of X1 and 2, Spidey 1 and 2, BB, Hulk and SR i can watch 50 times and not get bored of them, but I like a story that takes time to develop, unfortunately FF2 didnt have that chance due to Fox. IMo give this movie an extra 30-40 mins and it would have something special.

Somethign like that would have been a great improvement IMO, as in the movie, The Surfer's motivation for his defiance is a bit shady and not well developed IMO.
I agree, it did seem a bit rushed in my opinion, though I still really like the film regardless. :)

Oh I love the Spider-man and X-men movies. Don't get me wrong. I saw the first X-men and Spider-man 4 times each in theaters. Their sequels twice each.

The thing is that they're the kind of movies that I have to watch like...a month or 3 apart. I know they're great but then I think of that runtime and I think "Am I sure that I won't pass out before the climax?"...It happens a lot with X2 actually. Pass out while Xavier is talking to Jason and then I wake up and the dam is exploding for some reason. The Fantastic Four movies are almost cartoonlike. I'm just there all the way and there isn't a moment I'm not laughing or on the edge of my seat or genuinely interested. The Fantastic Four movies in my opinion have captured the feel of a comic book better than any other so far. Not even Spider-man can keep the feeling going without slowing down with some Peter and Mary Jane "Hey...:yay: " "Hey...:yay:" "What's goin' on? :yay:" "Nnnnuuuthin'.:yay:" and that's usually when I go off to make some grilled cheese.

Same here...

FF:ROTSS is the kind of movie I feel I can pop in during any time of the day and enjoy.

With say, BB, Spider-man, X-men, SR, I feel like I have to be in a certain mood, that way I don't end up falling asleep...not out of bordem but say because I was tired that day.

Its almost like, I have to plan ahead and make time for the other comic book movies because when I watch it, I want to be paying full attention...kinda like how I have to make time when I wanna watch LOTR.

With F4, I gots no problem...its short, fun and straight to the point.

Exactly. Fantastic Four I can catch like right in the middle on some movie channel and think "ooh!" and start watching. With a movie like Batman Begins I think "Well I already missed the beginning sooo..."

Fifty. Times.

Okay, then.

Yeah i see what you guys are saying, if i have a spare 90 mins i can watch FF2 (Have the 120version of the first one now :csad: ) were as i couldnt do this with the other films mentioned.

BUT, i just get so much more satisfaction from watching those other movies mentioned its unbelievable, when watching those other movies, i feel like i have watched an amazing Epic like Gladiator or something, and the FF movies have NEVER given me that experience unfortunately, though i believe the 2nd one could have if it was longer.

But to each their own :yay: .

Okay, then.

Yep, i've probably watched The Terminator and Aliens more than double that!

Well see that's what I mean, with the other films, I can really take it in and enjoy it on a real level. I'm immersed into the storyline, the characters and really, "get into it".

F4 on the other hand is really more of a lighthearted, "quick fix". I can get into it, get into the characters, etc. as well but because the film isn't much of an 'epic' like the others, as soon as the movies over, I don't give it a second thought. Whereas the others, I can't get out of my head for the rest of the day.

Exactly. Fantastic Four is great for my fix of bright loud things. :p Althought I must say the slower more human moments actually engage me too because they're actually entertaining and don't feel like filler. For example Ben and Johnny together are always good like in the bar when he says "Well, you got me pal.". Things like Johnny thinking about settling down with someone himself.

Tim Story can get his point across without dwelling too long on it and that's great. A scene like this in Spider-man would take forever and bore me after I've already seen it a million times. I still can't get Peter and MJ taking out the trash out of my head because of how mind-numbingly boring it is. First viewing? Cute. Totally had me interested. Repeated viewings? "I wonder if she's wearing a wig or dyed her hair.".

I think it was a wig and they dyed her bangs...

Ironically, the wig looked much better than her natural hair in 2.

Lol.

You're right about FF being good for quick, loud fixes of w/e. Doesn't change the fact that RotSS sucked balls, sorry.

Great. Now I have nothing to wonder about while I'm watching the movie. :oldrazz:

:yay: Well thats my main problem with ROTSS, ha ha, it should have been more memorable and epic IMO, but i guess it just depends on what you're looking for.

FF2 is just as epic as Spidey 3, I love FF2 it's a big time improvement over the first one, in fact I've only watched the first FF once and I don't want to see it anymore!

I've watched FF2 several times and I enjoy it each and everytime!

I disagree, i found Spidey 3 much more epic, maybe not in scope, but in tone and direction it was much more epic to me, as were all the Spidey movies.

I disagree, FF2 had a much more broader storyline and a much bigger vision. I would love to see the Inhumans or either the Black Panther in the next FF, it would take the franchise to an even bigger level.

Well see that's what I wanted going in...the trailer for F4:ROTSS made it look like the film was gonna be on an EPIC scale along the lines of Spider-man.

But the film is just wayyyy too short for anything to really resonate for me. Its like the film never really takes its time, its always a jump from one shot to another.

This was the same issue with X3 but the difference was that we got two very good X-films prior to that, so when X3 came around, I already knew enough about the characters and the story that I didn't need another character study in 3.

We didn't get that in the first F4 movie...I hoped we would in ROTSS, but we didn't.

So I take it for what it is and how FOX expects us to take it (sadly)...as a lighthearted action adventure.

Seriously, who else were thinking, "EPIC" when they saw this...I sure was.

I still like the movie though, 7.5/10.

It just could've been so much more, IMO.

It had a broader scope, but definately not a bigger vision, the movie just never seemed like the world was going to end to me, there was no tension IMO, and this was primarily seen in the London Eye.

As opposed to Spidey 3 when you worry for Peter when he has the black suite, and you worry for his life at the end when Sandman and Venom are beating the crap out of him, i honestly though he was going to die at that point.

But i was never worried about Earth's fate in FF2.

Well with both FF2 and especially X3 we should have got more IMO, the Pheonix Saga and The Coming of Galactus are 2 of the most renowned CB stories ever, so it wasnt as if they didnt have the right source material to draw from.

But trust Fox, they managed to turn both into something meaningless and forgettable, however, i will say, i think FF2 is much better than X3.

How else do you think they could have achieved this, besides a longer running time?

I enjoyed the broader scope, the sense of a "global crisis". It's one of the reasons why I rate FF2 over X3.

Well that depends on what you think sucked about it.

I could go on forever, but the main reason I disliked it was b/c it didn't do the Surfer justice. FF #48 was huge, and this film, well...:whatever:
