6.5/10

Went to see it yesterday, here we go (put's critic hat on).

**SPOILERS AHEAD READ AT YOUR OWN RISK**

I'll start by saying that it was pretty good, I enjoyed it for the level that it was operating on, but it could have been great. The Surfer was excellent, definitely faithful in spirit, the pacing was brisk, the action was good, the visuals were fair-good, the acting was ok all in all, and the story and script were fair, probably the weakest parts were Doom and the ending. While I did say that it was pretty good, there were things that could have been vastly improved.

Regarding the pacing, it was too brisk, particularly in the third act. We went from the depowered Surfer to the Cosmic Doom, to the defeat of Galactus in a matter of minutes. I was afraid that this would happen with all that they were cramming into a 95 minute running time and it did seem rushed, especially the climax.

The action and visuals were good overall, much improved over the first movie on both counts, however there were some problems. As stated by others previously, Reed's stretching effects were pretty dodgy at times. On the plus side, the London Eye sequence was well done, as was the battle with Doom, and the Surfer was well executed.

It seemed that the actors grew into the roles a bit more and I didn't have any major problems with the acting. I liked Reed's speech to the General in the forest, the banter between the 4 was fun, and Johnny actually grew as a character (whowoulda thunk that). The problems I had with the script were really what I sensed as a dumbing down of the dialogue at times, some plot holes, and a general lack of logic. More on this later.

Now to the ending. While I enjoyed the battle between Doom and Johnny, I was a little sad to see it. To me it meant that we will not see the Super Skrull in this or the forthcoming Silver Surfer films. If we do it will have that been there done that flavor to it. More on the actual climax later.

This brings me to Doom. While better than the first time (I thought he looked good at the end), he's still not up to snuff in my eyes. The script and story did not do him justice, and I wasn't enamored with Julian's performance yet again, I think it's the voice. I'm not sure that he is to blame; I think it is more the director and/or scriptwriters for a lack of a proper vision of the character. I found his motivation lacking; he grabs the power Cosmic to rule the world I presume. Oh wait.... the world that's about to be destroyed in 5 minutes, well that would have been a short reign. I then thought, well he has the Surfer's power so he could just leave, well why didn't he do that? Grab the Surfer's power and just fly into the distance and watch the world end. He would have kept the power Cosmic, the 4 would have been dead, and he could then find a planet to rule. Happy ending for Doom.

And now for Galactus and the climax. If done correctly I think he could have made the movie. As it is we got Galactus lite (very lite). Yes I saw the fiery helmet in the cloud but to me that wasn't enough. I have the first 80 or so Surfer comics and I always enjoyed Galactus as a character. It was not, the helmet, the armor, the ship etc.; it was his character. His wisdom, omniscience, conceit, bravado etc., and the overall concept of a being that eats worlds and would consider us as insects. I thought he was perfectly realized in the late 90's cartoon. With adjustments this could work cinematically.

The climax. The Surfer flies up and blasts Galactus with everything he's got and it's over. Ya gotta be kiddin me. The Surfer has never had this type of power, he was only given a microscopic fraction of the power Cosmic, and how stupid would Galactus be to give him that much power, this was just a "we need something to blow up at the end to make it look good" ending. Honestly, I would have been happier if the Surfer had just lead him away in the end. I sense a lack of budget, studio thinking (we need to start the Surfer franchise ASAP), and a lack of daring on the part of the filmmakers.

Overall it was fun but it seemed to me like the film reached past its capacity to deliver. They would have been better served to make this a 2 parter and delivered Galactus properly in the 3rd movie.

Finally, on a side note, yes I thought Jessica Alba looked like a mannequin with blue contact lenses most of the time. The lenses were weird and her makeup looked caked on. It is amazing how a bad makeup artist can make the most beautiful women look funky.

My $.02 review.

Be careful man, a big cloud might eat you.

Personally, what I look forward to most with the films of comics and stories I have long-loved is the interpretation, not an exact portrayal. Comics work on paper, not on film.

Galactus isn't dead people:whatever: neither is the surfer, It was a better movie than Spider-Man 3 for sure.

We did get cheated out of one thing. NOT ENOUGH BENJI.

The Thing was nothing more than an organic support crane and some comic relief. He didn't clobber anything, or smash anything. It wasn't even implied like w/ the convertable in the first one. No building came down around his head. No initial clash w/ the surfer, he was just the voice and that's that.

I guess I should be greatful for 'thing dust'...

FF2 was MORE faithful to the comics, and yet SOME fans are complaining about it not being faithful and are saying that the movie is terrible. The X-MEN movies are LESS faithful to the comics, and yet many of those same fans are saying that those movies are very faithful and are great. Go figure.

I actually think that's one of the problems with this movie. Its TOO faithful to the original comics, which honestly weren't very great storywise (at least not in the execution of the stories, but the concepts were cool).

Okay here's my review: first off I am not a FF fan, I admit to watching the various cartoons of the FF and the only comics I have of them are those by John Byrne and Alan Davis but because they're my favorite artists.

I don't know why all the hate for the first movie, who cares if they didn't follow the comic book origins, just relax and enjoy it like I did.

FF2 ROTSS was an okay movie but I'm still not a fan of them and the Silver Surfer will always be boring to me, the movie was funny when it had to be. It seems that the general public think the FF are lame because they're not hip like Spider-Man or dark like Batman.

I got news for those people, the FF are a family type of superheroes, they don't go around brooding and pounding on villians which I think accounts for the PG rating. All in fairness I hope that more sequels get made at least to see more of Jessica Alba.

You can never make a fan happy.:whatever:

I thought the Galactus cloud would suck until I saw how it was executed. It was like the cosmic, apocolyptic wrath of God and it looked pretty cool.

this is what Galactus reminded me of:

^^^^ Imagine if that was trying to consume the Earth.

I think they could've kept the original Galactus if he looked like he did in Marvel Alliance however it might of been a distraction to audience members who already have issues with the weird concepts. It would've been too much for them.

Save the 100% accurate Kirby Galactus for the Silver Surfer spin off where the character can get the attention and story he deserves. But the cosmic cloud is a good introduction for those who haven't been initiated and were not ready to see a giant man with a giant purple aztec outfit hovering in space.

lolz. seriously? Too faithful to the original?

A sign people are grasping for straws for reasons to hate the movie.

I don't hate the movie, and I'm not looking for a reason to hate it. The old FF comics were very silly and corny and this movie seemed to capture that a little too well at moments.

I give Fantastic Four:Rise of The Silver Surfer :star: :star: :star: :star: .

The FF sequel is a much improved movie from the first one. From the opening credits to the effects, to the story itself is just better.

It has more of a Fantastic Four feel to it, as far as improvements to looks, Dr. Doom finally looks like himself, his is the best improvement, Sue Storm getting blue contacts helps picture her as a white character a bit more, and The Thing looks mildly better.

The feel I got from it is, it's a bit of a mix of Spider-man and X-men 2.

It's a fun ride from beginning to end, with only Galactus not being shown as its only let down and flaw.

Silver Surfer has been brilliantly brought to life by Weta workshop. It is so nice to see a comic book character come to life and not have to try really hard to picture that as that Hero I've known all these years.

The only big mistakes the FF movies have made is the absence of a more pronounced Brow on Ben, and Alicia being black. I would like to see the one and only white Alicia that has been in the books all these years, and that I, and all fans have known all these decades!

Seriously, don't change the race of characters, it makes no sense, if you want an ethnic character put in the movie just use one from the books or come up with a new one, but one is not needed, if you want to have a black character in a FF movie use the Black Panther.

I want to see these characters come to life, not what someone else thinks.

Other than that the FF movies are now some of Marvel's best. Spidey being 1st. They stay faithful to the comics, staying in the fantasy comic book realm as they should, and don't pull any realism excuse bull crap. These are SuperHero movies, meant to have Superheroes and SuperVillians in them.

LOL. A comic book movie made too similiar to the comics. What a nightmare!

I'm just talking about the bad aspects of the original comics. Don't generalize my statement like that.

I didn't mean to generalize your statement, that's just the way I interpreted it.
