When they catch up with Doom on the board the movie goes limp for me,the chase is edited way to quickly and is so dark you don't get one decent shot of Doom on the board or the Fantasticar, they crash land in shanghai and Sue takes a spear from Doom to save the Surfer,it results in her death which was unnecessary IMO.injiuring her would have been enough.
Good review Hunterrider, and as subjective as opinions about movie watching experiences are, I think Sue dying was meant to be poignant and a 'oh no' moment (especially for the kids), we were supposed to feel the weight of her death and of her sacrifice.
In fact, the Silver Surfer was motivated by this self sacrifice of Sue in her willingness to save him and i think it shows well how the Silver Surfer makes the decision to square upto Galactus. So this scene was needed to be a turning point for the character to lead him to his eventual self-sacrifice. If she was just injured there would have not have been the same emotional weight needed to trigger the Surfer in making such a major choice, plus the drama would have been taken away from the FF at the prospect of their 'crazy career' choice resulting in the loss of one of thier own (ties into the subplot of leaving their life behind to be normal).
What do you think?
I can see how it could be taken that way but the fact she could have died would have been enough to show Surfer that we as humans have a courageous and good side to us,that our planet for all it's ills is worth saving, for me the real problem with it though comes from him bringing her back to life 2 minutes later,it was like they could have just been a bit subtler and avoided that kind of corny no consequences stuff......i will say both Ioan and Jess played the scene with reserved subtlety that worked well IMO
Her dying was better, because she sacrificed herself for a being that was letting their planet be destroyed. This is a much stronger message to the Surfer.
Great review though.
I'll have to disagree,to me the act was the message not the death and for me when people die i like them to stay dead to show that there are consequences
For instance 24 season 4 when Bauer decides to put the medics on the terrorist instead of Audrey's ex husband b/c he needs the info....the ex husband dies and Jack has to live with it thus the consequence of the action.....to me death shouldn't be used when you just intend to bring the character straight back to life

Never watched 24. Been tempted to rent the first season for a while, though.
I don't mind the Surfer bringing someone back from the dead like that. Had this been a Spider-Man movie and Harry came back from the dead, I would not have liked that. The death angle also showed some caring for Sue from Johnny, and I thought it was well acted.
I agree it was well acted i just don't agree on the death part which is cool,we all see things differently...BTW did SS ever bring ppl back from the dead in the books ?
You know when you get a new toy, the first thing you wish to do is test out its abilities...
Does one really have to have a plan to steal the surfer's board. Sky really is the limit of his achievements...a plan is potentially futile for you can achieve all your desires and more with teh board.
I wouldn't say he got his ass handed to him, he just didn't put up much of a fight, he didn't put up much of a fight when ben clotheslined him before but he eventually recovered and layed the smackdown..
the only difference is that he didn't get the recovery time from johnny...
I just think Doom should've had more to do, or maybe should've been aware of Galactus and by using the Surfer's board and a machine he build trying to take on Galactus in his arrogance. Which brings me to another point that greatly annoys me. Galactus was barely present in the movie. We see a Planet getting crushed in the beginning, the Surfer talks about a great devourer and then when he finally arrives he gets defeated in a minute. I mean, what the hell?
Not that I could recall right now, but the power cosmic is very mysterious, so he possibly could. He did create an antibody for a deadly plague in the Rebirth of Thanos.
Doom said before when he spoke to the Surfer that they could be unstoppable, which translates to being the supreme world power, which would be true. He wanted to rule the world in this movie.
black panther could be white...just put a tarzan-esque feel to his origin and being found by t'chaka
heck at the very least, they could make him mixed race as he could have married some other ladies by right and had an actual love interest with t'challa's mother. With him being illigitimate would make his claim for king of wakanda more thrilling.
I think only black peeps (or non whites) are stereotyped by their colour, essentially every major white marvel character could have their race changed.
Personally due to the new cartoon, i've gotten used to alicia being black, it's probably an improvement on the character. The lady playing her part that had such a small role in the first film did far more with her role in this one...it would have been amazing if she had interacted with the surfer...
imagine the surfer about to heal her eyes and she doesnt allow him to. Amazing...
I should've included that in my point. Making Black Panther white AND ruling an African Country is all kinds of racist.
