Final Fantasy XV

Just finished it, and loved it. The ending was beautiful, and the opening screen art tweak after the credits was a nice touch. This has become one of my favorite FF's. It's not perfect, a lot of story happens off screen, but what it does right it does very well, IMO. Now off to post game, well that and now I can get back to Pokemon Sun, lol.

Quick question about the battle system since I kind of want to play this. The videos I've seen shows it's all running around and fighting but I heard that it can be switched to fully turn based combat like the older FF games, is that true?

I've seen a few differing answers on it.

they have it so you can control the other's in Noctic's road trip party of friend. but it's not overly that deep you do some certain skill attacks in a limited fashion with them and some of the guest characters that'll join your party temporarily . but for the most part your controlling the protagonist Noctic

I've put in 8 hours of play time so far and am for the most part enjoying it. I got the Day One edition but didn't get around to playing it until recently as I had other media to finish like the Rogue One novel and other stuff. The battle system is like a refined mix of Final Fantasy XII and Lightning Returns. I'm playing on 'Wait Mode' - it just seems a better way to go to me - anyone else?

Will have more thoughts about the story and storytelling and music posted by time I get to the end...whenever that happens.

Quick question about the battle system since I kind of want to play this. The videos I've seen shows it's all running around and fighting but I heard that it can be switched to fully turn based combat like the older FF games, is that true?

I've seen a few differing answers on it.
There's two styles of combat. The default is a typical 3rd person hack and slash with specials and charges moves that allow you to make use of your party's special abilities. The other play style is called Wait, and while I haven't used it, it is my understanding that it gives you the option to "pause" the fight to analyze enemies' weaknesses and plan an attack. It isnt turned based, but offers some of that style's benefits.

This is the first FF game I've played. I'm enjoying it for the most part, but it's taken awhile to accept some of the stylistic and tone choices (ie: everyone running around and being goofy while their kingdom is overthrown). But it is what it is.

One thing I'm not quite clear on: [BLACKOUT]why is the Empire helping Noctis? They killed the king, took over the kingdom, but several important members of the Empire are helping the prince? Has this been/will this be addressed, or did I just miss it?[/BLACKOUT]

Any answers to that question would be appreciated, assuming it isn't a spoiler (I'm level 35 and just did the mission where you have to hunt down some mythril in Vesperpool).

Well I'd say the answer to that would be a major spoiler, especially in the case of one member of the empire. Something you come to understand towards the end.

I've found that camera tracking is much less than ideal during the battles - and holding down the button while trying to manage the camera on the right stick is a bit of a pain, so the Wait Mode helps the player cope with this a bit better. The worst is when there's a bunch of trees and shrubs in the way or there is a large pack of enemies or when Noctis is near a wall. The Wait Mode is actually more useful than it has been in the recent FF games like XII.

Pokémon Sun & Moon And Final Fantasy XV Named Amazon’s Best-Selling Holiday Games. December 30, 2016 . 8:30am

It’s no secret that Pokémon Sun & Moon have done exceedingly well when it comes to sales since their release back in mid-November. Now, Amazon has released an official statement, announcing that Pokémon Sun, Pokémon Moon, and Final Fantasy XV were the best sellers in their video games department during the holidays.

In addition, Amazon also revealed a rather interesting factoid about Sun & Moon, stating that “If each Amazon.com customer who purchased Pokémon Sun and Moon this holiday spent at least an hour a day playing the game since its release, our customers would have spent the equivalent of more than 24 thousand lunar cycles capturing Pokémon.”

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are available for Nintendo 3DS.

I think it's a shame they're only adding a couple of lame outfits. I thought it was a bit weak you only had a few different choices and I never really liked the main look of most of the group either. I think dlc would be a good opportunity to add better outfits like ones inspired by previous FF games. You could have Gladio dressed like Amarant or Ignis like Kain with Prompto as Zell and Noctis as Cloud. Or even just new original outfits.

I'm giving it a little time before I dive back in. I already bought the season pass, but am so back logged on games as is. I plan on waiting for 1-2 DLC's to come out first. Don't worry Dragon Age 3, you've only been setting there unplayed for a year now, I'll play you, eventually, lol.

Man. The Cup Noodles quest is so ****ing self-aware and hilarious.

(Spoiler: Tabata wants to release it on PC.)

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has an interview with Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata, who discusses digital sales, fan satisfaction, cut content, the E3 2016-announced virtual reality content, and even the potential of a PC port.
Get the tidbits below.
What’s the ratio between Final Fantasy XV‘s physical and digital sales?

Tabata: “Based on the company’s average, there has been a whole lot of sales of the digital version. We’ve seen good numbers not only in Japan, but also in North America and Europe, so we’re happy about it.”

What kind of feedback have you received from players overseas, given that they’re so accustomed to open worlds?

Tabata: “As a current generation game, there has been a lot of satisfied feedback. We’ve seen an impressive amount of feedback such as, ‘it’s a very important title as it’s a major step in Final Fantasy moving forward to the next stage.’ However, players that put maximum priority on story have the same opinion as those in Japan (their level of satisfaction is low).”

Were there any parts of the story that were cut out of necessity?

Tabata: “Not particularly.”

When you update Chapter 13, will there be a mechanism for players who have cleared it to be able to play it again?

Tabata: “I’m thinking about those things together.”

What’s going on with Final Fantasy XV‘s virtual reality content?

Tabata: “Development is progressing, but we haven’t progressed to the point where we can say specifically when it will be released.”

Fast-travel loading is long…

Tabata: “It’s honestly difficult because there is a lot of information to load. We’re thinking about various ideas though.”
Any update and downloadable content news outside of what was announced?

Tabata: “Although there are no plans, I do have one ambition. And that’s to freely travel that world by car. However, since realizing this in its existing state means overcoming some very high hurdles and tremendous debugging, the prospect of implementing it is impractical.”
In the movie there were areas that you couldn’t go to in the game. Will the amount of areas increase?

Tabata:

“Those videos made use of glitches. There is a large map being used on the train route in the second half of the game. Since that area isn’t completely made, opening it up as an area you can freely traverse is difficult as is.

“We might remake playable areas in future expansions, but since that would take a year, it is not currently in our plans. For argument’s sake, if we were to prepare new fields, Insomnia would also be a candidate, but that also would take a year’s worth of work.”
Regarding a release on other platforms…

Tabata: “I’d like to release the game on PC as a technical attempt. I want to show PC users Final Fantasy XV running on high-end machines, and we personally would like to see it, too. Also, I would like to try developing on PC to pursue a unique way of playing with PC-exclusive features like making your own quests and enjoying the world using things like mods.”
Final Fantasy XV is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Thanks, Hachima Kikou.
