IT'S NOT REALLY SOMETHING TO QUESTION LOL. HE CLEARLY CALLS HIM "BELLY" AND ALWAYS HAS, IT'S A NICKNAME SINCE HIS LAST NAME WAS BELL.Billy is short for William which is his name. Belly just sounds stupid. I'll check the subtitles on previous season to confirm what Walter calls him just to be sure.

I THINK SHE'S A GREAT ACTRESS. SHE'S PLAYED 3 DIFF VERSIONS OF OLIVIA ALL OF WHICH HAVE CLEAR SUBTLE DIFFERENCES. THE FIRST VERSION WAS VERY CLOSED OFF BECAUSE OF HER CHILDHOOD BEING EXPERIMENTED ON. THEN IN THE NEW TIMELINE WITHOUT PETER SHE WAS PLAYING THE SAME OLIVIA BUT YOU COULD TELL SHE HAD A DIFF UPBRINGING, SHE WAS A LITTLE MORE OUTGOING AND HAPPY. THEN THERE'S ALT-LIVIA, WHO IS THE HOTTEST WITH HER RED HAIROLIVIA SUCKS
In both universes............. even her daughter from 2036, the one with no expression on her face, sucks. I never liked Olivia's acting...... i mean give me Scully, not this

I'm only questioning, because I've always heard "Billy". I guess it is because that is short for his name William. Belly just sounds nonsensical so it never entered my mind that's what he was saying. Belly is something people call their stomach/abdominal area so using it as an endearing nickname is laughable to me regardless of his last name being Bell. Billy is a real name short for William. Belly is something someone who sucks with nicknames would come up with. If I'd been Bell I would have put a stop to it, but then I'm averse to nicknames in general. I'll put this on the writers.
I've yet to confirm this with my dvds, but I'll take your word on it.
REALLY!?!?

EXACTLY, OUR WALTER IS AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN SILLY AND A LITTLE OFF. AND I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYONE THAT THOUGHT HE WAS CALLING HIM "BILLY" LOLhmm, Fingepedia has it as Belly. I always thought it was Billy, but Belly is fine. It is a bit clever. A pun on the common shortening of his name by using his last name, to make it into a silly word.
Classic Walter![]()

he's definitely saying belly.
not sure what you find weird about it. lots of people's nicknames are derived from their surnames. mine is.

Alternate Olivia is the sex! That red hair!
True that. Lincoln Lee should jump on that pronto.
Robert becomes Dick.

t:Wouldn't Richard become Dick as in "Richard "Dick" Greyson" and Robert become Bobby? " Robert "Bobby" De Niro"Where I am from nicknames or pet names come from the first name. William becomes Liam, Billy, Bill, Will. Scott becomes Scotty; Robert becomes Dick. John becomes Jack. Etc. Or someone has a wholly original nickname based on neither name. Surnames or family names tend to be left alone. Matter of fact I've never met someone who's nickname was derived from their surname. I suppose that"s one of the reasons I never realized he was saying Belly. I've never encountered a nickname like that. Billy made sense because I've encountered someone named William being called Billy. Specifically, it's something we called my uncle who was also named William. Belly just never occured to me.![]()
1. Man, that ending was terrible. Was this like a standalone episode not linked with the next episode?
2. Did they do something with Eta's voice? There were times when I thought I heard Olivia.
3. How were there so many Observers? I thought they said in a past episode that there were only like seven of them?
4. As for the "Belly" debate, it always made perfect sense to me, it's actually "Bell-y". It's a term of endearment. It was common practice for people from the time period Walter and Bell are from to make up words like that. It has nothing to do with "Billy" and it isn't even a play on words nonsense.
