Its not a bad thing to be released in 2017
Gambit has a lot of competition around it in 2016
although moving it closer to X-men apocalypse might not be what they want to do or maybe it is
Director's and Actor's schedules are not a solid thing all the time as we have seen before with Tom Hardy leaving Suicide Squad

Director suggestions:
Jeff Nichols
John McLean
Damian Szifron
Spierig Brothers

They can turn it around, but it will probably be impossible for an October 2016 release date. It isn't happening if principle photography is next spring. It will have to be pushed back into 2017.

It makes sense. Push back to rework it so it's cheaper. You also avoid the glut of comic book movies next year, which after this year, may make studios nervous about going all in.

If they're worried about their ability to compete with other superhero movies they need to cancel Gambit. There will be more in 2017 than 2016.

I personally think June 2017 would be a better release date than October 2016 regardless. October traditionally isn't a good month for film, outside of horror movies.

Wolverine 3, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol: 2, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man Reboot, Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League: Part One. Yeah 2017 looks so light on Superhero films. :funny:

I agree with you, if they are worried they shouldn't be making the film because the competition is getting even more fierce.

It isn't going to get any better for the foreseeable future.

Again, I think a big reason for the delay is cutting the budget down. If they can cut the budget down, then the competition isn't as big of an issue. If Deadpool does good, they might even move it Valentine's Day.

Fox also wants to keep their releases diversified. Universal doesn't need comic book films.

They won't move Gambit to February because Wolverine 3 is coming out in March. Unless they move Wolverine too.

FOX could give the March slot to Gambit and plop Old Man Logan into Fant4stic's summer release date.

Here is a bunch of money to not play Gambit, now come play Shazam for us- Kevin Tsujihara

Eesh, I'm not particularly fond of him as Gambit, but I think I would be even less fond of him as Shazam.

I doubt they will move wolverine just for gambit

It wouldn't be just for Gambit. It would also be because the studio didn't want to concede the summer slot reserved for the Fant4stic sequel no one is asking for. The final appearance of Jackman's Wolverine should be competitive in June.

Is Brad Pitt Returning for that WWZ sequel, because they have the same date in 2017.

The director thing is pretty much par for the course.
It's not just about the director leaving, it's rumors about other behind the scenes troubles that gets me worried.

And don't tell me that's just rumors that aren't true, the Fantastic Four fanboys said the same thing and the vast majority of rumors about that film were true. Now I'm not saying Gambit is guaranteed to suck, I mean Fury Road was a very troubled production as well but right now the Gambit film has trouble brewing. I think that Fox has to make sure that they do not do what they did with Fantastic Four. Do the opposite of that.

It's not a perfect situation, but if FOX is committed to putting a Marvel licensed film in that slot "Final Jackman" is their best bet.

Objectively speaking, don't panic quite yet if you are looking forward to this. It IS possible they get another director and it can turn out fine. Ant-man went through three and in the end, it did well and was overall well received by GenPop and the critics. So although this may not currently be the type of Gambit-news you want to hear, just hold on for a little bit and maybe you will get some good news in due time.

Aw thanks, that made me feel a bit better, besides the fact that they invited Channing to San Diego Comic Con this year; he showed up there wearing a freaking Gambit t-shirt, how freakingtastic is that?! I think he officially became a part of the X-Men there, they wouldn't have invited him in for nothing. To the pictures and stuff, darn, Stan Lee himself called him on stage. So yeah! I'm hoping for the best.

On another (fangirlish) note, yesterday Channing posted a pic on his Instagram and I commented "Who will direct Gambit? When will you guys start filming? I hope everything turns out well". And he replied to me XD "Thanks for the Gambit love" + my Instagram user. XD Ok it might be an assistant, a publicist (though I do believe it was him, call me silly), whatever. But it was nice to see he loves Gambit so much to take ten seconds to reply about it, to some random person in the world.

There hasn't been that much backstage trouble and keep in mind, all this "trouble" is pre-production. What you guys are amounting is the director leaving, Channing having trouble negotiating on a contract and the budget. To justify that, you all say that the movie was only made because of an interview Channing did. No, the interview Channing did gave Donner an excuse to make a film she had been wanting to do since X3 and would have done had Origins turned out well.

The budget isn't an issue. There are plenty of films out there with higher budgets than Gambit and less known stars that make more money. Take the budget out of the equation and you have two problems: Channing threatening to leave and Rupert Wyatt leaving. Of those, you can argue that Channing leaving isn't even an issue because for all we know he might not have even fully left the project because he negotiated a deal to star in the film, he was already slated to produce. Then there's Rupert Wyatt leaving, the only big issue and movies can still turn out good if the director leaves pre-production: Edgar Wright.

A big reason (not the only reason) you guys are making a fuss is because Fox is the studio funneling money into the film and not Disney. A lot of these reasons are valid, but I will say that it is a bit premature and maybe we should all wait before casting high judgements.

I don't think anyone here has given this film the kiss of death quite yet, but it doesn't look great. That's the consensus from what I can gather.
