Oh, it's 100% dead. Sucks for Channing and his mom, the only two people in the world who wanted to see it made.

Id say its been like 95% dead for a while. Never beleieved this would ever see the light of day

It’s not dead. It has been in pre-production hell for almost 5 years. Remember it took Deadpool 13 years.

Deadpool wasnt in pre-production in the middle of a studio acquisition. Anyone thinking that his isnt dead and that Disney/Marvel will move forward with it is only deluding themselves. There is literally no reason why they wold. Its alot easier to just drop a project like this than Dark Phoenix which is pretty far along. The Gambit film has gone nowhere

Don’t assume this project is in jeopardy because of the pending acquisition. For all we know the acquisition might help the project. Marvel has always wanted to do something with Gambit, but Fox didn’t. Gambit is a popular Marvel brand, I’m sure Marvel will be happy to take him from Fox.

No, I assumed this was in jeopardy long before the pending acquisition. That only solidified things.

Gambit is not a brand and definitely not a popular one. Marvel can make something out of him as they have proven but there's nothing about Gambit that screams they should push forward with a solo film for him. They are about to have a busy lineup in terms of films to release in the coming years and adding on the X-men and FF makes things more crowded. Gambit would be best served in a team movie, then on his own.

I agree Gambit is best in a team, that’s not the way they are going.
But I think you are underestimating Gambit popularity.
Lots of people thought Ironman and Deadpool wasn’t popular enough for a solo movie, they were wrong. The movie most likely won’t be made is FF2.

I still hold that after Batman Superman and Spider-Man it is the actor married to the role which is the key. Going by my wife's favorites Channing Tatum is the man for the job and even if Gambit is not "the event" movie on its weekend release she will have us in the seats when it is normally me pushing us to MCU and X-Men movies.

Originally, Gambit had a movie budget at $155 million. Tatum threaten to quit over this enormous budget. His logic being if the budget stays this high, the movie would be a instance box office flop.
The budget issue has been one of the main problem with this movie. Every director Fox hired wanted to work with a high budget, but Tatum stood his ground, having been burned by two high budget flops in recent years.
Now the rumour budget is between $50-$100 million, more to Tatum’s liking.

Channing Tatum will name Gambit’s director at SDCC on Saturday.
This name will be a shocker to everyone.
Filming will start October 2018
Release date gets pushed again to November 2019

Would love it to be true:yay:

I dont think Im underestimating Gambit's popularity but thats largely built off the 90s cartoon, something that hasnt been releveant in like 20 years. There's a whole generation of viewers that barely or dont know who he is. Even in the comics he's fell off (although he seems to be getting more of a push this year)

And its not that I dont think he's popular enough for a movie. If this were still Fox, I think they could do it bc its not like they had much going for them. Marvel though? They have a very packed schedule. I dont think a Gambit solo is big enough to push forward with in light of this

Actually most websites rank Gambit high on the most popular or best X-Men list.
He ranks higher than a lot characters we seen so far in these movies. Fox drop the ball on Gambit and they are still ****ing him.
Here is a bit of trivia:
Channing Tatum was actually suppose to play Gambit in the first X-Men movie, but before shooting started Fox decided to write Gambit out of the script. The first script Gambit and Rogue was in a relationship, but Fox wanted to change Rogue situation, meaning that Gambit had to go.
With Disney/Marvel, I think we will finally see Gambit.

So you mean to tell me that FOX casted Channing Tatum for Gambit all the way back in '99 but had to wait another 5 years for his film debut till '05 because the part was cut?

yeah Im calling bull. Tatum was 19 back in 1999 and he didnt even get his first acting role till he was 24 in 2005. Fox cast some teenager with absolutely no acting experience to play a major role to launch their film franchise? Dont buy it

I think that site/source got confused with X3. Tatum was Lauren's choice to play Gambit, when he was still in the script, but with the whole Vaughn situation, rushed production and Ratner, Gambit got cut and Tatum wasnt involved anymore. Lauren has been wanting to use Tatum since 2005, she has said it herself.

It would have been really interesting if somehow Tatum actually played Remy in X3. Maybe the next years in the franchise would have been quite different. with Remy not appearing in Origins and maybe Fox giving the greenlight to Gambit solo movie, using Paquin and a few others as some type of continuation. who knows... it could have happened. But we wont ever know

I think it would have been great for the series if Fox plowed forward with new characters in the present rather than recycling old ones in prequels with decade long time jumps.

This info came from a Channing Tatum interview a few years ago.
I’ll try to find the link and post it.
