Game of Thrones - Book Readers' Thread - Part 18

To an extent I agree that they are distractions for him, though when it comes to say, Dunk and Egg, he wrote the first two in between Clash and Storm, and then the third in between Feast and Dance, and has since delayed all further work on them until he's done. They're tiny little things as well, so while it is a distraction, its a minor one.

The World Book was worse, but again, he had a lot of help with that one in the form of Elio and Linda who co-authored it with him. I actually think that one was necessary because it filled a lot of holes in the narrative and helped clear up a lot of plot threads that probably wouldn't be addressed in the main books.

Now the proposed Fire and Blood (GRRMarillion as he jokingly called it) is the real thing that should have you ****ting your breeches. That thing would be a monster going through the entire Targaryen dynasty, but thankfully I think he has also recently said it's been shelved for the indefinite future.

Just read an article that the next book will officially not be coming out in 2015, so there's no avoiding the series outstripping the novels now.

oh yes there is... just gang rape us with more filler like we all know they will.

I don't need more shocking. I need to see the Boltons get BTFO and Ramsay burned in a nightfire.

RIP

I reckon, Ramsay's gonna get ripped apart by his own hounds. It's pointed out in ADWD that since Ramsay made Theon sleep in the kennels, that the usually savage hounds have all grown to love him and happily greet him when they return from a hunt. I think Ramsay may try and sic them on him, only to have it backfire amazingly.

I have big Spoiler Question for the 5th season:

In what episode is expected:

Cersei's Walk of Shame scene? Is it expected at the middle (episode 5 or 6) or the end of the season?

and this:

Drogon's attack on the fighting pits? I'm guessing it's expected at the finale (episode 9 or 10)?

Based on what we know, The walk is probably in episode 10. The Pits are probably in episode 9.

People who won't die in the books are going to die in the tv show:

Martin has a warning about the upcoming season. “People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy. So everybody better be on their toes. David and D.B. (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss co-creators of ‘Game Of Thrones) are even bloodier than I am.”

“Yeah, it’s the hottest show on TV now, but will it be the hottest show on TV two years from now? Hot shows come and go and television changes, and I’ve lived through that before. I certainly hope that we get to tell the entire story. Because whatever happens with the show I’m going to finish the books, it will be seven books. But each of these books are 1500 pages long and they each have enough material in them for several seasons. I have two more books, the one I’m writing right now, ‘The Winds Of Winter,’ and after that the last book, ‘The Dream of Spring,’ so those will be the two final books. But we’re talking 3000 pages of material. How many seasons that translates too? That’s up to D.B. And David.”

My assumption based on these comments is that sniveling schemers like Littlefinger and Varys will die, unless Vary's alignment for tv viewers is "good", basically anyone who has shades of grey might die to appease viewers, just my assumption again based off Martin's comment.

Maybe Littlefinger (i doubt it), but def not Varys.

There will be more than enough G.A. appeasement with them making Dany out to be the old gods and new gods gift to man..... i continue to hate her.

If Varys doesn't have any huge role left to play in D&D's script, and if the fAegon plot is his last action in Martin's books, he could easily die, not for being a gray moral character, but to isolate Tyrion quickly and efficiently.

Tyrion was isolated enough in a **** filled box. Varys would have to be an early season death too, the spider will survive. heyy heyyyy dododooooodododododoo

Martin...get it through your head...there is only going to be 7 seasons. Maybe...maybe 8 if HBO throw a serious raise at D&D or change showrunners. God, I wish he would stop saying **** like this. It's just perpetuating the idea that D&D are going to stall or keep the show going for a decade or more. It isn't happening. D&D want 7 seasons and they said that last June. They said that starting with season five it's time for them to start moving towards the end of the story. They aren't climbing the mountain anymore. They are going down the other side now. I'm paraphrasing, but that was the gist of what they said. They already have plans and jobs lined up for after they finish GOT. They can't do this forever. And considering what we know of season 5 it's clear that D&D have zero interest of using all of Martin's material.

About who will die in the show:

I seriously think Jaime may die in Dorne this season. It might not happen in Dorne but I have a very bad feeling that Jaime's days are numbered.:(

I expect[BLACKOUT]Brienne and Pod are on their way out.[/BLACKOUT]

Barristan is my bet, which would align with the rumors of him taking the Strong Belwas place and Daario taking his role as Hand. Grey Worm as well, looked to be in a tough situation from the trailer. Either or both are terminal IMO

Selmy, Bronn and others random people at the Wall would be my guess. I could also see Stannis biting it before his time. I don't think they will touch Jaime, not with Cersei still around. Same with Brienne, with Jaime still around.

Mace Tyrell might be killed by Arya, along with whatshisface from the Kinsguard, Turd Ferguson. Then there's Loras, whom could have his offscreen "death" be made an actual onscreen death.

I like the Loras one. Would be a visual stunner too.
