The show is only going to 7 seasons..

Ya...they have not said that yet. They actually said it may go to 8 seasons, or 80 episodes. They even said the last finale was set up that way because it's "Half way through". I would not jump on that bandwagaon yet, don't start saying stuff like this as if it's true. It's not decided yet.

The Battle of Winterfell however just doesn't work next season. Stannis just got to the wall. Do you think the showrunners are going to have him turn around and leave at the beginning of season 5? I don't, and that's the number one reason I don't see the Battle of Winterfell fitting in next season. I figure Stannis will spend season 5 at the Wall most of the season dealing with Jon and Mance. Mel will be all up Jon's ass too. Then towards the end of the season Stannis will leave the Wall. And he will reach Winterfell in season 6.

It can work. The show is having some parts move quicker than others. They don't need to show Stannis retake Deepwood Motte or get the Mountain Clans to his cause and they already showed the Iron Bank supporting him.

It would be a crime on the audience's attention span to fully postpone Stannis's march on Winterfell, kind of like his season three plotline. If they follow my theory of preserving the cliffhanger, I'd see Stannis leaving the wall around episode 4, recruit in the back half of the season, then fight the Frey forces on the ice before marching on Winterfell and left on an ambiguous note, kind of like the wight army attacking the Fist of the First Men.

I'm believing episode 9 is the Daznak pit, but that doesn't mean the entire episode is about that, since the Daznak scene isn't much, but it is very pivotal, but it isn't an entire episode. It's more like 20-30 minutes imo.

Unless i'm forgetting something, it's more just about the locusts + the big return.

If they play it right, the Daznac scene should be just as shocking as the Red Wedding in its WTF-ery for the Unsullied. It's not a full episode worthy, but it should make a good sucker punch.

...then we get some badass Battle scene in episode 10.

I'd like it if they showed Stannis do those things because it builds his army and shows the audience that he's not actually as villainous as they thought, and that he has a decent chance of winning the Battle of Winterfell. But at the same time I agree with you.

Also.... Daznak's Pit confirmed: http://winteriscoming.net/2014/07/04/preparations-game-thrones-season-5-filming-seville-osuna-way/ that's definitely gonna be a big E09/E010 event.

I would like them to show them since it shows how he's becoming a better politician. They can still have him retake Deepwood Motte, it just will be odd since Yara is supposed to be captured there. I think her role is important, they could have it that she abandons the Ironborn when Euron is crowned.

What makes me think none of it will happen is that D&D are not fans of Stannis. They think he would make the worst king. Stephen Dillane said that the description of Stannis he got was, "a guy who won a few battles" which is understating his military accomplishments. Him annihilating the Iron Fleet in t he Greyjoy Rebellion is the equivalent of Spain or France defeating the Royal Navy during the 17th-19th centuries.

I think Benioff understands Stannis and gets the character. Weis is the one who sees the character in strict shades of black and white. Which is funny, given how the series is known for morally grey characters.

Euron didn't have that much screentime in AFFC: Introduction, speech about being the godliest man, unveiling the hellhorn, setting up his attack on the Reach. I expect the show to combine his speech with the horn's reveal, followed by 1-2 mid season action scenes of the ironborn raiding the mainland. Or maybe I'm being hopelessly optimistic.

The theory I've seen floating around a lot is that both the Greyjoy brothers, and Young Griff are getting completely cut as they've removed any and all prophetic elements hinting at either storyline and that the Golden Company being with Stannis. (though that last ones arguable)

Not saying its what I want or believe, but it's an interesting thought.

It would give George more time to work on TWOW/ADOS, if true, since he wouldn't have to worry about the outcomes of what appear to be major plotlines in the remaining novels.

In season 5, how far into Dany's storyline do you think it'll go to? Do you think they'll make it to the end of Dance of Dragon's or would it take it to season 6?

It's really unprofessional how differing their opinions are on him. From what people have said Benioff seems to be the guy who wants to stick to the books and understands the characters whereas Weiss is the one who wants to try and "improve" the source material. Egh. There really is no way of getting around showing the Battle of Winterfell though, unfortunately for them.

Also I would really hate it if they cut out the entire Iron Islands storyline and Young Griff. They've cut out characters or merged them before but never entire major storylines. fAegon takes Storm's ****ing End at the beginning of TWOW, and Victarion launches an assault on Slaver's Bay with 93 freaking ironborn ships. They've done so well adapting it up to now... I really hope they don't suddenly screw it up here.

Speaking of the Battle of Meereen, it's going to be super freaky for Barristan and Tyrion when Victarion lands in Slaver's Bay. Like, they're expecting to just be fighting the Yunkai and Volantis forces and suddenly the whole Iron Fleet comes in from half way across the world. Like, what? :funny:

Okay, so I just finished AFFC and I'm a bit confused by the ending. Pate, who I totally forgot was in the prologue appears in the final chapter. What is the significance of all of this? I've been reading that Pate is now Jaqen after the real Pate was killed in the prologue.

It's believed that the Alchemist from the AFFC Prologue (Pate POV) is the same person Jaqen changed his face to, as their descriptions are similar. After he killed Pate, he changed his face to Pate in order to infiltrate the Citadel. It's speculated that he's there to investigate the dragonglass candles for the Faceless Men.

That makes a lot more sense. I totally forgot Jaqen changed in COK. Also another thing I was unclear about, why does Prince Doran want revenge on Dany?

Overall, AFFC is my least favorite. If it wasn't for Martin's prose this book would have been a chore to get through. The most interesting things do not happen until the last hundred pages or so. Brienne's last chapter was probably the most intense moment since The Viper vs The Mountain.

Didn't see that coming with Cersei either. She deserves what's coming to her.

Good sport Martin! Suck it haters.

I am convinced that GRRM will not die until 89. The books will be completed. No rush.
