I wanted to see Melisandre burn Ramsay like with the Florents last season.

Hey, it could still happen. Remember she told Stannis she saw herself walking the battlements of Winterfell, watching the Bolton banners being taken down. She'll be there when they're defeated, and burning people is what she does best.

True, I had forgotten about that. It makes you wonder what the context will be: trying to revive Jon, or taking Winterfell with a resurrected Jon and then just burning stuff because she never expected her prophecy to come true and is now flying by the seat of her pants.

I would love to see her get the Brotherhood Without Banners on their team for the attack.

How many more seasons would you guys guess are left of GoT now?

Oh is that all?! Need to be huge then, no more mucking about with superfluous stuff.

Well David Benioff did say that right now they see it as 75-80 episodes, so either an 8th season is still on the cards or they're going to do an extended season 7.

I guarantee the next two seasons are going to rush and condense a lot of material.

I wonder how they'll handle Daenerys' characterization, ADWD was all about her learning that making compromises and maintaining piece in Mereen was a waste of her time, that she was of fire and blood and would now realize it's time to take Westeros and that also means innocent people will die due to the war she brings.

I'm thinking the tv version will stumble around and somehow the tv version will somehow try and justify that noone innocent has died because of her war.

I still say Dany will help against teh Walkers then turn around and go home saying '**** Westeros. You guys can have it."

8 seems about right to me. If they do a 15 episode last (7th) season I suppose that could work too.

If it were 7 standard seasons only they'd have to. Seems silly to have wasted time on unnecessary subplots and then have a limited time to tell the overriding story of the show.

i am thinking they will do it a lot like the Big C... instead of an 8th season, 4-5 90 minute episodes.

^I hope not. 90 minute episodes that end after five weeks would be the worst of both worlds: episodes would be too long and the season would be too short.

I heard HBO wanted eight seasons while the showrunners wanted seven. I hope HBO gets its way because I can't see how they'd wrap this show up in only 20 episodes. I'm not a book reader, but since they seem to be introducing new characters in the [BLACKOUT]Greyjoys[/BLACKOUT] I have a feeling they're aiming for eight seasons.

still think it'll be 7 seasons or season 7 will be split be longer and split into 2, as some have speculated.

But the Walkers are just trying to survive, we can't have that! :b

Hey I remember someone said that the new calender has a scene from Winds of Winter, could it be this shot?:

Daenerys has her hair like a Khal.

Nice art! Yeah, hope she does change her hair like that.

So besides one or two minor things like the Iron Islands plot, are we pretty much caught up so we can talk about stuff without spoilers?

Kinda weird, instead of wasting time in Dorne, they could have simply used that time to set up the [BLACKOUT]Greyjoys[/BLACKOUT]. If they realy wanted 7 seasons, it could have worked if they had done this, which would now leave next season open for things to go down, instead of having to set them up this late in the game.

Once I heard the show had caught up with the books I went through all the audio versions so I could discuss both sides of the coins and check this thread without feeling guilty! :awesome:

How did you like the books?

I agree, Dorne felt largely pointless, even moreso than in the books. I would much have preferred Jaime fighting a guerilla war in the Riverlands against the Brotherhood Without Banners. With or without Stoneheart, more Beric and Thoros would've been great.

Isn't that the whip she used to originally control the Unsullied?

Dan and Dave said in an interview last year that it is going to be 7 seasons.

"It feels like this is the midpoint for us,” Benioff says. “If we’re going to go seven seasons, which is the plan, season 4 is right down the middle, the pivot point.”

The seven season goal-line has been floated in the media before, but the writer-producers of the acclaimed fantasy hit series says they’re firmer than before that three more seasons sounds about right.

“I would say it’s the goal we’ve had from the beginning,” Benioff says. “It was our unstated goal, because to start on a show and say your goal is seven seasons is the height of lunacy. Once we got to the point where we felt like we’re going to be able to tell this tale to its conclusion, that became [an even clearer] goal. Seven gods, seven kingdoms, seven seasons. It feels right to us."

Dave also said this year (after HBO made their famous 10 season wish) that right now he envisions it at around 75. Last year he said no more than 7 seasons, this year he's saying "definitely not 9 or 10" without ruling out an 8th. They sold it as 8 seasons to GRRM and HBO, so I think with the incentive that HBO wants as much as they can get they'll probably stay around that, whereas last year they were more eager to cut it short.

Is the endgame still seven seasons and that's it?
Benioff: We've always said that, but we have to talk to HBO and come to an understanding. There's a temptation to keep going with it because we're still having fun, but you don't want to ruin it by tacking on a couple of extra years.

Weiss: The big thing is, this is a show with a beginning, a middle and an end. We know what the end is, and we're heading toward it now.

Benioff: We're not sure whether it's going to end up being, say, 70 or 75 hours —*but it can't be 100 hours. It would start to feel like a bogged-down mess."

An 8th season probably is something they'd consider.

The only thing that may deter them doing a full 8th season is the fact that a full season's production is exhausting. 270+ days. 5 crews in as many countries. And the production will get even more complicated as the show reaches its climax. But if they don't feel up to a full 10 episodes I'd love for them to do a 5-6 episode 8th season to wrap everything up.
