Even Victarion would have gotten the short end of the stick I'd think. Then there's the show's depiction of Aeron.
Who is depicted here as basically being a standard Drowned Priest who blindly follows Euron's command, seems unconcerned about the open admission of kinslaying and has hardly any characterisation at all indicating he's family to Euron, Theon or Yara. He got it worse than Areo Hotah.

If they didn't want to get into the Ironborn story then they should have just left it alone like they did with the Golden Company/Young Griff plotline.

Its definitely tacked on in the same way Season 5 was with Dorne.

I thin Euron is a throw away character in the Ironborn story-line, the main characters for that are Yara and Theon. I think those two will join up with Dany while Euron is barely seen again. Euron was just used as a plot device to get Yara and Theon to Dany.

That's exactly my point. Whereas in the books he's a major villain whose coming has been foreshadowed since the second novel and has ties to the greater supernatural plot. What the show's done is a waste of the character, and it's clear that it went against their original plan which would have been far more streamlined IMO

Yeah, Euron is just a foil for Yara and Theon and possibly Dany.

I agree they've over simplified the Ironborn, and Euron openly and randomly saying, "Let's go murder my niece and nephew.", like it was a game of tag and everyone following along like drones was stupid as hell.

And I don't care how good the Ironborn are it would take months maybe a year or more to fell enough trees, dress them, and craft an entirely new fleet. By that time Yara and Theon will be with Dany and probably on their way back to Westeros. And what are the Ironborne going to do In the meantime for food if everyone of them is spending day and night building ships? The scene just made Euron look incompetent.

If Littlefinger can teleport all over the place, the Ironborn can build ships with superspeed. :oldrazz:

Yeah, and plot wise it's irksome because if you look at Season 4 they clearly made plans to circumvent this plot by having Daario provide the ships to get Dany back to Westeros sooner, because they knew that they weren't going to be using Victarion or the Battle of Fire. The thing is, Bryan Cogman, who wrote this episode and helps breakdown many of the bigger arcs, has been trying to find ways to shoehorn in these newer characters from the later novels like Doran and the Sand Snakes, Euron, only they don't really work if you don't commit to the full storyline. So it's very detrimental to the greater narrative when they add these sort of plots. I think D&D should have just stuck with plan A, especially since they want everything finished in another season.

But on a positive note, I was very impressed with the actress playing Leaf in this episode.

I'm actually glad they are not delving deep into the Ironborn story line, we have less than 20 episodes left in the series. I want the overwhelming focus on Dany, Starks, Kings landing and the White Walkers. No point in starting a heavy story line this late in the game.

Theon isn't gonna be part of the ironborn storyline much longer because there is no real ironborn storyline, he's gonna merge with Dany's storyline and serve as a satellite character.

It's still a detraction of screentime, no matter how you slice it. I'd be fine with them cutting the Ironborn completely at this point. Now, not only is there less time devoted to the Starks, but we also have this incredibly poor iteration of the Greyjoys on screen as well. It's like they tried to have their cake and eat it too, only for it to fail in both respects.

Ok... Theon as part of the Dany storyline is stupid as **** too.. he's just all of a sudden normal acting now with a haircut... he should have stuck with Sansa, far more interesting of a story could be tld there.

but opinions.. we all have em

Theon isn't acting normal. He's still obviously emotionally weak.

I think it's more that Theon and Yara (Asha) have kind of gone off the track here, because in the books I'm reasonably sure that they're more involved with the fall of the Boltons rather than meeting up with Dany. I think a better alternative would have been to have Theon convince Yara that they need to help the Starks defeat Ramsay, or something along those lines. I think there's more of an emotional arc in play in doing something like that, as opposed to going to Dany whom means very little to either of them.

As a book reader, even I'm lost with what the heck they're doing with Bran.

Summer just dives into wights to be slaughtered for no reason. As mentioned, probably to save budget for dragons and Bastardbowl.

I kinda liked Euron but it became comedic once Theon and Yara somehow stole the entire Iron Fleet.

After a few encouraging episodes, this one was a lateral with 2 plots stumbling and the rest making no real progress.

Next week for sure. The title sounds like it'll be Danny-centric. Although that might be good since Ramsay isn't there to steal all her horses with 20 good men.

I hope "The Broken Man" delivers on what I think it means.
