So is anyone else wondering if George was lying when he straight out said Coldhands wasn't Benjen Stark, or if this is going to be another show change?

we've got our one stark reunion for the season... not going to have LS, Sansa, and Jon together in a scene.

They did seem to be hinting at LSH pretty hard in this ep. Or at the very least teasing it.

I think its a show change... Leaf says "he was killed long ago" in the books

Yeah. And I could be wrong, but I could have sworn I read an interview where GRRM straight up said Coldhands wasn't Benjen.

Personally, this is a change I don't mind, since it makes sense, and he isn't just a random dead dude helping Bran out. And even if Coldhands in the books ends up being a dead legendary old hero or something, this change definitely streamlines things for the show and works well for TV.

Also Reek, you can PM the answer to this, but have you heard any whisperings about LSH possibly appearing in this season? Or was this episode just teasing her for the sake of teasing?

Apparently on the original manuscript of A Dance With Dragons GRRM's editor wrote a note that said "Is [Coldhands] Benjen? I think he's Benjen!" GRRM responded by writing back "No."

Yep. That was it. Thanks. Makes me wonder what the heck happened to Benjen in the books. It would be somewhat anti-climatic if it turned out he just got offed, since GRRM made it a somewhat prevalent mystery, at least in the early novels.

Benjen's complexion did look a bit off, yes?

Being half dead/undead has never done wonders for the skin.

well all of this answered itself.

And I9X ... I got nothing on Stoneheart. There's been teases before especially with the season 3 finale title and ****... **** them lol

True. They do like to mess with the fanbase don't they?

bahstahds ! dirty rotten bahstahds!

They like to mess with the fanbase with little hints like Stoneheart... and then they like to **** the fanbase with kicks to the crotch like Barristan.

/waits for a certain someone to call me and idiot

FWIW, this is the closest thing there is to an accurate artistic depiction of the Others (as per George):

You can kinda see what would be considered white fire there where the heads taper off.

I was bummed about Barristan. He was always one of my favorite characters.

Don't expect the Coldhands/Benjen amalgam to be the last this season. There's at least one more coming.

Oooooh, interesting. Well I so far I like the Coldhands/Benjen combo. It just makes a lot of sense. I'll be interested to see what the other is.

on another note... the soundtrack this season has been pretty awesome... Theon and Sansa running from the hounds... the slighty revamped Winterfell music, Aryas music when she is getting Needle back, Dany's revamped theme...

What if Coldhands in the books is actually...the Night's King of legend. :sly:

That was a theory I held for ages. That he survived his defeat and the Children offered him a chance at redemption for what he did to the Watch and House Stark. By the reckoning of how the Children tell time (200-300 year old Leaf is considered young) it fits with the notion that Coldhands died "long ago".

After the last episode the show is dripping with all the anime only tropes.

It's clear as day as to what they're building up towards. There's obviously going to be a union between all the "main" characters we've been following in the show. Even though Dany is gathering a huge army/navy for her own purposes they're all inadvertently helping to create the biggest army that this whole area has ever seen and they'll all have to join forces to bring down the White Walkers.

I feel this has always been a possibility but the show isn't shying away from being super obvious, something that wasn't present when they were following Martin's fully developed writing.

yea... next episode

Dany: I will cross the narrow sea with my 3 dragons and defeat all our enemies!

cuts to the north

Jon: 'look guys... to beat the white walkers we need at least.... 3 dragons... We don't have that.

Sansa: Not yet.

There's a 10 second clip on youtube that some are claiming to be Stoneheart, but it just looks crap to me....and that's overlooking the crappy quality itself. Doesn't look like Fairley to me.

Also, there was a guy on imdb with trollish grammar who claimed to be an extra, and had wandered into a heavily guarded tent somehow, only to find inside an "old, deceased character dressed as a wight". He claimed that as a non book reader he didn't know what the story was with it.

He said he got fired for going into the tent.
