Game of Thrones General (Non-Book Related) Discussion Thread - Part 1

Also the show wasn't guaranteed to be a success at that point, and certainly not the raging success it has become.

Good point. It's incredible they got as much they desired. I can understand Peter getting a million but would figure the other 4 something like 500 K an episode. But they probably negotiated as a block which made their demands stronger.

Btw I saw Kit's miniseries "Gunpowder". Not bad. Apparently he's also producing. I'd have figured he might wanna play against type. Like a comedy or even a romantic drama.

Lets just say they're doing alright. ;)

Kit and Rose are getting hitched, and so are Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas...

which GoT cast member will get engaged next?

I'm disappointed that Sophie Turner has confirmed that GOT S8 won't come out till 2019, but I'm trying to keep it in perspective. There is a ton on the line right now for this series. They're attempting to backload all of Winter and the resolution of a lot of character arcs into a minimized season. It's risky... just ask LOST, which did the same thing and ultimately ruined the rewatchability of the whole show.

I feel like GOT was hard to watch in the first few years because the pace was fairly slow... a lot of connections hadn't been made yet and you had to keep track of a lot of people. But then the show really got me into the groove of that... I started to really appreciate the glacial but epic inevitability of what was coming. And now... it's come, and it's like a gun... long time to load, but it goes off quick. I hope the show can pull that off. I hope it doesn't feel like a final season that is totally foreign to everything that came before it.

IMO, the best way to ensure that doesn't happen is to have long episode lengths. I hope each episode is practically a movie unto itself. This is a really epic series, and I hope they put their all into finishing it right.

Sophie says a lot of crap in her interviews, but I think winter 2019 was going to happen anyways. It's so disappointing, but if the episodes are long and the quality good, hopefully it will be worth it.

The budget going into this season is supposedly going to rival a high end Hollywood feature (only several times the content), so if it takes them longer I won't begrudge them that.

I would have rather waited 2 years between season 6 and 7 rather than 2+ years between season 7 and 8.

They should have taken two years after season 6 and filmed the final 13 episodes and finished post production on the first 7 episodes and released those. Then they could have taken a year to finish post production on the final 6 episodes and released those 1 year after season 7 ended. That way the momentum of season 7 isnt lost because of a 2+ year break.

Aye.

I've no problem waiting if the end product is up to scratch.

Geez, really? That's too long. :waa:

You'll get one...possibly (though only distantly) two GRRM novels in that interim, one of which will be basis for one of these new spinoff shows, so that's something at least.

Some Season 8 news.

Winter is Coming have worked out the directing order for each episode, which is as follows: Episodes 1, 2, and 4 will be directed by The Winds of Castamere (aka the Red Wedding) director David Nutter. Meanwhile, episodes 3 and 5 are placed in the very capable hands of Miguel Sapochnik, of Battle of the Bastards fame. The sixth episode, the season finale, will be helmed by showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss themselves.

In other words, everyone dies.

Remind me again if D&D have taken the chair before??

Thats the trouble with final seasons. All bets are off. :(

yeah, they have.

Benioff and Weiss have each directed one episode — Benioff went behind the camera for Season 3, episode 3, "Walk of Punishment," while Weiss helmed the Season 4 premiere, "Two Swords." While they've written the majority of the show's 67 episodes to date, this will be the first time they've directed together.

So Episodes 3 and 5 are probably the battle episodes. Episode 6 is prpbably an Epilogue of sorts that gives the characters resolution. Episodes 1,2, & 4 are probably movement episodes that shift the game pieces around the board.

Who said anything about 2+ years? It's very likely they will air it in early 2019. Probably in the March slot it used to premiere in. They're not going to sit on it for that long. It would be a dumb move for them to wait until the summer to premiere it.

I agree.

we'll see it April 2019. Filming should be completed by summer/Fall 2018.

The final season will be massively hyped and promoted. Like Breaking Bad's final season times 10

I wonder if Auburn has "Administer Access" for FrankenMountain? Think about it. A volatile vindictive mass murdering psychopath asks you to make an undead giant. Wouldnt you make sure that creation couldn't be used against you? Qyburn seems pretty smart and knowledgeable. And smart enough to realize that Cersei is one temper tantrum away from ordering FrankenMountain to pop Qyburn' s head like a grape. So it seems like he'd make sure there was a way to stop that. I'd love to see her order FrankenMountain to kill Qyburn and FrankenMountain just stops and does nothing.

Then Qyburn takes his FrankenMountain and they wonder the world discovering all sorts of crazy things and getting into all sorts of hijinks. All while Cersei and King's Landing is devoured by a horde of undead.

I'm not entirely joking about that last bit.:hehe:

I think narratively, you don't introduce a Dr Frankenstein and have him go out in any way that isn't at the hands of the undead monster he created.

Hi,

I’m so excited to know what’s coming next. During the course of the series, you can’t say you prefer one specific character because at one point or another he/she ends up dying. I think the cast wasn’t exclusively British and American on purpose. I reckon it’s to show the diversity in the seven kingdoms.

Here's my best guess.

Vares dies obviously. So does Mereen... perhaps together.

Sansa Stark ends up the head of house Stark. I'm guessing that she meets and courts Gendry.

Arya Stark will stay at home, as the Stark muscle.

Theon will find and rescue his sister, and he'll serve her as Queen of the Iron Islands.

Cersei will miscarry and send her troops into insane slaughters. She'll end up forfeiting the troops from the Iron bank to John Snow to protect from the NK. She'll ultimately die, similar to the mad king... having lost her mind.

Jaime will go to the Wall, and somehow end up with Brienne of Darth.

John Snow and Dani will end up with a child together, ultimately dying to protect him and handing him off to Jorah Momont.

My first guesses.

Winter 2019? y'all crazy lol.
