Game of Thrones General (Non-Book Related) Discussion Thread - Part 1

I actually thought Emilia Clarke did her damndest to sell what she had these last few episodes even though she personally made no secret of not liking it.
Emilia's efforts salvaged some of her rushed arc for me.

D&D: "We need to do something with Bronn in the finale...**** it, let's just make him master of coin."

I imagine that's how that script meeting went.

LOL, so true. When I was watching that scene, it dawned on me that Bronn killed Davos' son. Does Davos know that? I know it was a war but you'd have to think it would be hard for him to just let that go and work with the guy. Of course, he was following orders from Tyrion, but still.

or maybe take care of his litter of little dragons? read some of the spoilers that were out there this morning to see if indeed this was known and yes it was but that Drogon had babies during season 5 was a WTF is this for me

There was a theory about that, when people were desperate for one last minute twist to explain what had gotten Euron so concerned in the episode 5 promo. It’s bogus though.

I'm laughing at all the people (mainly some on my Facebook wall) who were whining in the past that it was going to end predictably with Jon reluctantly taking the throne. It doesn't happen and then they are still crying. No wins with fans a lot of the time.

Also, if people really paid attention throughout the show, Bronn is actually a solid choice to be master of coin. At first I was thinking if he could be trusted with that power but he's always been about money and he knows how the system works being a sell sword staying away from the political drama for most of his life. Hell, one of his first things was wanting to open a brothel. He knows how society works and that it would definitely bring in money for the "economy".

As for Jon. He is where he wants to be overall. I need to see the finale again but one of my friends pointed out that you can kind of see him smiling. He's away from all the bull crap and I feel a bit more at peace.

I don't think it's hyperbole to say this is the worst finale ever. It is, TO ME. I liked Dexter a lot but the quality of it had dropped so significantly by the end that I didn't care. They even made me hate Deb with that whole falling in love with Dexter nonsense. Game of Thrones was different. While I felt the quality had dropped a bit, I still really cared about these characters and what happened to them. That's why to me anyway, this is the worst finale ever

Ever?? As in compared to the overall history of TV? I do consider that an exaggeration. It reminds me of the people who would post at IMDB forums. A movie was either the greatest thing ever or the worst ever. I understand if you really hated the finale but "worst ever" is ridiculous.

I don't think you understand what the word opinion means. I said it was the worst TO ME. I didn't realize I wasn't entitled to having my own opinion. Thank you for straightening me out

Bran was basically Doctor Strange, he went into the future and viewed 14 million 605 scenarios and saw only one scenario where he becomes king so he basically makes everyone his puppets for it to happen lol.

I completely understand what an opinion is. I just find yours to be a bit extreme. Like I've said to people in the past who write off a movie or show as "the worst ever" (or in this case the finale) you need to watch more shows. There are plenty of them that have way worse finales.

It's not the worst final-season/finale ever, but to me it definitely is the most disappointing final-season/finale ever.

in the past 10 years I'll say the sons of anarchy finale was worst but then this for me just gut wrenching waste of time

Do not tell me what I need to watch and don't need to watch. I'll reiterate this one more time in all caps and maybe this time you'll understand. TO ME this is the worst finale ever. Notice the "to me" part? I'm not trying to invalidate anyone else's opinion as you are. I'm simply stating my own. You're entitled to enjoy it and I wouldn't try to convince you otherwise. And I am entitled to hate it with every fiber of my being. But please keep telling me my opinion is ridiculous

Worst ever to a particular person is completely subjective. Did you care about a certain show more than others? If so, a bad finale will seem much worse to you. I watched all of Dexter, Lost How I met your mother and all of them had bad finales to me. But I wasn't as engrossed as I was with Game of Thrones. I didn't care as much. To me this was the worst. Some stranger on the internet repeatedly telling me I'm wrong will not change how disappointed I am.

and I didn't even mentioned the fact that Brienne redeemed Jaime in the knights book PLZ GO AHEAD WITH THAT
I would have just have her put stuff under HER NAME u know since she did a lot through the years nah I'll write about that guy did me dirty cause u know " female feelings" uhh so disgusting

and did you guys take Bran asking for a master of whispers as a joke? it came across as one

I never watched SOA. A friend of mine loved it and kept trying to get me to watch it but I never got around to it. I remember he was also extremely disappointed with the ending

A lot of us were, but I disagree that this finale was worse. The entire final season of SOA was awful. :(

I know a lot of people loved that scene where he "sneaked" up on Tyrion and Jaime and was given Highgarden but I hated it. Tyrion's brains have disappeared relative to what he was capable of at the beginning of the show. And Bronn was just an annoyance for me for most of this season.

I loved the finale, even though i had hoped for different endings for a few of the characters. This is GOT so i just expected massive deaths and destruction though lol, but thankfully that didnt happen. I was so emotional, i shed a few tears, i'll admit it. As happy as i was when Cersei died, seeing Tyrion find her and Jamie really made me feel bad for them.

Sanda's arc is likely one of my faves overall. To see where she started and where she ended up was a total 180.

I wasnt expecting Bran to end up in the throne! I knew it wouldnt be Jon just because it's what people expected lol, but to be honest, i didnt even know what to expect and had to expectations.

So much to say but i want to watch the episode again to take in more details.

Overall, love GOT and love it even more after last night's episode. Bittersweet.

much like GOT in that the first 5 seasons Amazing then the last 2 completely dropped the ball

Poor Brienne. Such a great character. It seemed the whole point of her this season was to lose her virginity and then cry about Jamie

You're certainly entitled to disagree with me. To me it was the worst. And I was defending this season to some of my friends who were really down on it. There were certainly some things I didn't like. The whole thing was rushed to me but there was still a whole lot I was enjoying too. Then last night happened. It started out so well. Tyrion finding Jamie and Cersei was great. Dinklage absolutely killed that scene. Dany with Drogon behind her? Amazing. The troops lined up in front of her with her house flag behind her? What a shot! It really evoked some nazi imagery there. But 6 minutes later the mad queens rule is over. Killed by a wheepy Jon Snow because he was so in love with her. The right thing for him to do? Absolutely. Of course he had to basically be begged to do the right thing. Even after witnessing his beloved queen burn up a bunch of babies. They'll even show us him walking through all of the children's burnt up corpses. This all could have been done so much better. It just needed time. Literally all of the mad queen stuff was wrapped up in about 30 minutes of screen time. From her snapping and deciding to burn kings landing to her death. 30 minutes or maybe a bit more. Is this what the characters we've loved for ten years deserved? Not to me.

I think it was a solid ending considering the unfortunately abbreviated last season (last two seasons really). I think where Jon, Arya, Sansa, and Tyrion ended up were pretty much perfect. I'm not as convinced about Bran becoming king, but then I couldn't imagine anyone getting the throne. I thought it was more likely that no one would get it, and I figured that's where the episode was going with Drogon melting the iron throne and the subsequent council of lords and ladies.

I don't have any problem with where people ended up. Jon is going where he really belongs. I'm happy for him. Sansa is ruling the north. Wow that girl has come a long way. Tyrion is the hand of the king. That's great. Bran will be a good ruler and Tyrion will be able to guide him. My problem is with all the stuff in between. The stuff that makes no sense. Greyworm had absolutely lost his mind at that point. And he just let's Jon and Tyrion live? Then he gives a big speech about wanting justice. So he just let's Jon go? Huh? Jon had just killed the woman that set them free. The unsullied are not the type to take prisoners. There were just shown executing Lannister prisoners. But the guy who killed their queen? He's free to go. It was just so dumb to me and made no sense

That wouldn't have made any sense. The White Book is where the Lord Commander write down the deeds of people while they are in the Kingsguard (specifically the white cloaks). She had just become one so she had yet to manage any deeds to write down. It's also perfectly in line with Brienne's character to do the honorable thing and account for things as they were, and not within her character to do anything dishonorable out of spite. That was one of the most fitting character moments in this season to me.

As for pointing out that they lack for a Master of Whispers I don't see it as a joke. Bran doesn't seem the joking type anymore, and he also mentions Master of Laws and Master of War in the same sentence.

Worst and most disappointing are two different things and disappointment can make things seem worse than they are. I can certainly understand why someone so invested in something can be very disappointed.

My impression is that Grey Worm was following Dany's instructions, period. He said Dany told them to execute every enemy of the Queen, which is why they were executing the soldier prisoners. They would have killed Jon imo if a consensus hadn't been reached regarding electing a new King/Queen. Once Bran was chosen, they had to abide by the decisions he made regarding Tyrion and Jon. That's my take on it anyways.

No they are not different when it comes to someone's opinion. Again, it was the worst TO ME. I truly hated it. It was way past disappointment for me. If people don't think it's the worst, good on them. I'm glad they didn't hate it like I did. But I did hate it. It was the worst to me. Nothing anyone says here will change that opinion. Again, you'll notice that I am not trying to convince anyone that enjoyed it that their opinion is wrong. I'm simply saying that to me, this was the worst. I have been invested in this show for 10 years. I've dealt with people saying how bad season 7 was even though I really enjoyed it. I had issues with season 8 but still enjoyed it although others have really hated it. But this last night? No. It was so terrible to me that I cannot be convinced that there was a worse finale. Again, this is purely subjective. If other enjoyed it, I am truly glad they did. For me, it was the worst. I apologize if I'm offending anyone with my opinion. That is certainly not my intent
