Ghostbusters 3 - Part 2

I think you are not understanding what Im suggesting. Im not saying do a third movie or animated movie. Just take the video game animation & use that as a third animated movie & remove any unnecessary on screen stuff like the WB did with Lego: Batman

I understood what you said, but i wasn't answering your post.

This project should die, or they should wait a few more years to simply do a franchise remake/reboot (which we all know is inevitable). But a quasi-sequel features a couple of members of the original cast? No thanks.

Like someone else said, 5 or 10 years ago if Murray was ready to sign on? Yeah, but otherwise it would be a big mistake to move forward with this one.

this needs to have bill. not watching it unless he's in it. i'd prefer it if had the progeny of the original GB as the next gen.

crisitine milioti as egon's daughter, donald glover as zeddmore's kid, justin roiland as louis tully's kid, not sure who to cast as oscar. if it's revealed or retconned that he's venkman's kid, the possibilities can change. akroyd should cast his daughter as stantz kid, cause i think she's cute.

Oh dear God, that sounds like an awful movie. I hope this doesn't get made.

Fun fact Akroyd's daughter played the younger version of the character Connie in the Coneheads movie back in 93.

there's no movie in there. these are just casting choices. and not all of them have to be gb. it should be obvious that one or two of them would be.

I hope there's no Ghostbusters sequel or reboot (because frankly it doesn't need it), but if there is I hope it's a fresh take and not a "these are the kids of the original characters" version, which would just make people miss the original characters even more in comparison to these pale copies.

Both would be pretty terrible. Neither a sequel starring old Dan Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson and a bunch of people playing their kids (you know Bill Murray won't touch that), OR a reboot starring recast actors would hold up well in comparison to the original films. You just know that's a 25% on Rotten Tomatoes waiting to happen.

They should just leave it alone. Do a new cartoon if they have to.

I think it will get left alone. They will never get all the pieces in place to make it happen.

I'd like a sequel but just with Ray passing the torch. Imagine him walking around the old building, all dusty and stuff, lights off, figurative ghosts, memories, running his hand along the pole, knowing the city still needs them. Pete could be in it if Bill wanted, but it doesn't need him for that story, and it'd be better than just another reboot.

Dumb and Dumber 2 trailer is out. the reaction on the internet and SHH will be the reaction to the GB3 trailer and movie. it will not live up no matter the script and the cast.

At this point I doubt very much that the studio would even go along with whatever script Aykroyd shoves at them - another twenty-to-thirty-years-after-the-fact sequel would probably not be an appetizing prospect for appealing to the all-important younger audiences (especially when there's merchandising to consider...kids probably aren't gonna want action figures of aged-and-saggy Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd wearing proton packs - that is, whenever they get squeezed in with waves of Slimer re-decos, because you just know the Funny Kid-Appeal Character has to be all over the merchandise).

And even assuming that Aykroyd finally breaks down, gives up his obvious dream of putting Ray Stantz in the same frame as some hot young chick and just writes a full-on reboot, most '80s reboots lately haven't exactly been doing gangbusters at the box office, that is if they get any decent promotion at all. It's like the Kobeyashi Maru of development-hell projects.

'Ghostbusters 3' Targets Paul Feig as Director

Paul Feig, director of Bridesmaids and The Heat, has emerged as the frontrunner, according to sources, and Feig has shown interest in taking on the project. Sources caution that no formal negotiations have taken place and a lot must be worked out before the casual discussions turn serious and Feig accepts the job. But he is the studio's first choice, these sources said. Sony declined to comment.

The long in-development sequel previously had Ivan Reitman, the director of 1984's original Ghostbusters and 1989's Ghostbusters II, attached.

On March 18, Reitman exited the project and a new search for a helmer began. Several websites indicated that 22 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were in line for the job but those reports were inaccurate.

The original script was by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg -- writers of NBC's The Office and the 2011 comedy Bad Teacher -- and has been revised following the death of original castmember Harold Ramis on Feb. 24.

The story introduces new Ghostbusters and hands the baton from at least a couple of the originals. Dan Aykroyd has said he will return but Bill Murray has not committed.
Feig is also directing the action comedy Spy, starring Melissa McCarthy, for a Memorial Day 2015 release. He is repped by CAA and attorney Warren Dern.

Paul is not a bad choice, but also, The Heat was such a sophomore effort, so it's hard to gauge him as a filmmaker. I really think what made Bridesmaids special was Kristen Wigg and her script.

Devin Faraci, hate him or love him, said it best that Ghostbusters worked because it had likable characters AND it wasn't restricted at being a comedy. It went beyond the genre, and became a movie with universal appeal with it's sci-fi/fantasy, world-building and humor.

Me everytime I'm reminded that this is still happening:

With Feig and the right cast this might not be entirely awful. I don't know how classic Ghostbusterly it will feel, probably not very, but if they intend on going forward with it I'd prefer a new crew getting the torch passed down over an outright reboot.

Casting this will be critical, as will nailing the feel of the original movie.

Cue someone making a '**** in the sink' joke in 3... 2... :whatever:

Yeah, the tone is everything. Like New York has to feel real, and not the beautiful New York that was in Raimi's Spider-Man movies. It has to show the grit too.

Also, the characters have to be good at what they do. Even though Venkman was a slacker BUT he wasn't a stupid buffoon either. He was good at speaking, and knew when to lead the team. And each character was funny in their own way. So the new characters have to feel like REAL people who happens to have a great sense of humor.

I just think they missed their mark on the window of opportunity for this one. With Harold Ramis gone and Bill Murray not wanting to be involved, I don't think a "passing the torch" movie will really feel as complete as it might have if they put this thing together 5 or 10 years ago. Plus, I don't feel that anyone is really clamoring for this to happen other than the studio behind it.

I feel the same way. Also, Sony's is increasingly becoming the Fox of the 2000's, so I'm 'meh' on their judgement. Even Fox now rocks due to Tom Rothman's departure, ten years ago they were a horrible studio and the only credible thing they had was 'Fox Searchlight'.

Sony just doesn't know what to do with their franchises, and I hope they wised up after Amazing Spider-Man 2. Sure it made money, but it made less than the others and they are aware of the critical feedback from the fans.

I just don't understand why these screenwriters are still attached to the project. While so many other tentpoles go through different writers, Ghostbusters 3, for whatever reason, are stuck with these two dudes.

I think the biggest disappointment will probably come in the casting announcements. I don't see many big names wanting to attach themselves to this projects and even popular fan choices from a couple years ago like Chris Pratt and likely too big now and attached to other projects.

Pratt is in a situation where he can't be another franchise film. I'm sure his agent is aware of that too, haha.

Casting is tough because you don't have to have cliche casting; at the same time, you still want SOME familiar faces, preferably from the comedy world.

I actually wouldn't mind Zach G. BECAUSE he IS funny (when he's not in The Hangover) but he's actually able to emote really well. And he can be extremely intelligent when needed. He's underrated actor especially after seeing him in his indie work and Bored to Death.

Another charm of the Ghostbusters is that their creature effects LOOK like puppets. I hope that they consider using a combo of CGI and puppetry.
