Ghostbusters 3 - Part 3

I'm so confused as to wherever everyone's getting there information, because last time I checked we had none. Fieg never said he was throwing everything away, just that he wanted to tell an origin story in a world that wasn't already familiar with ghosts.

No, he's throwing everything away. The first two GB movies never happened, he's starting completely clean:

So in the universe that you conceived, it’s like the world of the first two movies didn’t exist?
Yeah. I love origin stories. That’s my favorite thing. I love the first one so much I don’t want to do anything to ruin the memory of that. So it just felt like, let’s just restart it because then we can have new dynamics. I want the technology to be even cooler. I want it to be really scary, and I want it to happen in our world today that hasn’t gone through it so it’s like, oh my God what’s going on?

They won't be using any of the props, costumes, or ideas from the first two movies. Just the name. Presumably he won't even call it Ghostbusters 3, it'll just be Ghostbusters since this is the first one in his universe.

I don't. One thing that was great in the previous movies was that the technology wasn't too futuristic looking and it didn't feel safe. I don't want to see some too futuristic looking proton packs.

Here in 2014 you think the stuff wouldn't be sleeker and more compact?

To be fair, in 2014, given today's technology...I don't think an unlicensed nuclear accelerator and particle thrower/wand would be any more compact. Maybe their walkie-talkie/phones would be smaller, but that's really about it.

It's not like our weapons have shrunk across the board, y'know?

I'm a Ghostbuster fan purely casual, not obsessed with the mythos but watch them when there on. Having said that I feel bad for the die hard fan base on this because the franchise went out on top and there is a reason its been this long since we got another. Just let it be, its almost like the Indiana jones/clown at a party syndrome where when we were younger we had that awesome clown show up at a party and blew our socks off. Flash forward many years later and we still want to trot that old tired clown out to do the same acts we loved at a younger age and it just isn't the same. In this films case they want to trot a newer less charismatic clown out.

Maybe they will wisen up. If this flick brings a solid new cast, somehow has a script good enough for Murray to reprise the role along with the rest of the available cast, and brings the reemergence of Gozer the gozerian then this thing will make bank and get a **** ton of more positive hype. Which I assume is what the studio would want to happen.

So lets not ruin the memory by completely changing the Ghostbuster origins, ignoring the other films and not letting the creators and actors of the series reprise their characters
that article was released prior to that variety bit about bill, though wasn't it? that's why i asked.

By a few days, both came out close to each other. Going by the interview he would be playing a new character. But ya never know, hopefully.

Still don't see where your getting 'throwing away everything from'. I read the article, too. His mention of the 'equipment' hints that their updating what we know, not throwing it away. It's a restart, a reinvisioning of what we knew for 2016 or whenever it'd come out.

To be fair, this could be just the kind of quirky, nonsensical meta role Bill loves to play of late.

Because he says so right here:

Yeah.

The world of the first two movies won't exist in his version. It's like they never happened. Of course they're going to have equipment, but that's only because they're going to need something to work with. It won't reference the 1984 version at all.

I have a feeling he'll come around to doing a cameo in the eleventh hour. Meanwhile it's bittersweet without the others

So he might be willing 2 cameo in a movie with all women. New character or old. But refused 2 do anything with the other guys ? **** Bill Murray if this is the case

Yeah, we know that. It's a reboot. What I'm trying to say is that 'throwing it all away' means using nothing from the original movies, equipment included. Feig says he wants to reimagine the story of Ghostbusters in our modern age. The only thing for sure that won't show up in his vision is Venkman, Egon, Zeddemore, and Spengler. The story could still be about three friends and unlikely heroes that develop equipment to capture ghosts and save the world. Maybe the equipment will be similar and refined or not. Maybe there is an attempt to create an iconic car or hq, or maybe not. We have no idea right now, so we can't make a sweeping claim that everything is being thrown away, just that this is a remake/reboot of a familiar tale to a new generation and that the original four Ghostbusters won't be involved.

We are so early on and it's frustrating not knowing what happens next. But I stand by my comments that Sony won't let Feig stray too far from what Ghostbusters has been so that it becomes Ghostbusters 'in name only.'

One thing's for sure, this isn't being made as a love letter to the original fans. For us there is no topping the originals. It's what I grew up on! This is to restart a franchise for a new generation and rake in the dough. I wish them good luck on that.

The second reboot will be a dark and gritty Ghostbusters, rated R.

It's about three male prostitutes who find out that there's a supernatural serial killer running around on the streets, called "Jack the Slimer". They team up, and visit a crazy voodoo guy called Winston. Winston trains them in black magic and how to kill demons, ghosts and witches.

*Spoiler*

At the end of the movie, it turns out that they're all dead, and Winston is in reality the devil.

But what IS that, exactly? What has Ghostbusters been? If you were going to make a Ghostbusters movie without any of the original characters, actors, writers, directors, etc., how do you make it Ghostbusters? Just using the name and the equipment isn't going to be enough.

Ghostbusters is on AMC right now. It's like they know what we're feeling.

Well, the original concept, beyond the names and precise nature of the characters themselves is quirky scientist friends starting a business to catch ghosts because they're spectacular failures and jokes in their field. And then they end up unlikely heroes when the world is overrun by paranormal forces.

That's pretty compelling on its own.

Add quasi-futuristic ghostcatching equipment, a dash of horror, adventure, romance...

The becomes more a remake than a reboot.

Ghostbusters II is on tv right now, and the crazy lady on Venkman's show predicted the world would end in 2016. Omen?

I wouldnt mind if they just went the TV route, with special effects looking better and better on shows it should be easy.

That way I get my Ghostbusters fix every week :D

And I don't want an all female team, have no problem with female members but I'd much prefer a 2 male/2 female team.

Not just quirky...DIRT BROKE, quirky scientists. That's actually an important emphasis that gave the films their charm.
