Ghostbusters 3 - Part 3

I think Vigo's scheme was a lot more horrifying than Gozer's, when you sit down and really look at what he was trying to do.

I agree. Cheesy as his speeches were, imagine if the ghostbusters had to get through a city of people affected by Vigo's ooze...

Vigo wasn't as powerful as Gozer, all it took was happy people to strip away his powers. One trip to Disneyland and he'd be wiped out.

To be fair, they had to keep a tone that the cartoon viewers could gel with. So obviously we wouldn't see people getting beaten, lynched, maimed, beheaded, tortured or burned at the stake. Naturally, they needed a syrupy solution to the Vigo problem.

In the field of the paranormal evil spirits often rely on fear and negative emotions to suppress their victims, which is something Vigo was doing. He wanted to increase the fear and hate in the city and rely on it to strengthen him. Not so outlandish to think once the Ghostbusters got the city's positive energy levels much higher that Vigo's plan started to backfire.

Exactly.

Vigo was feeding off negative emotions of the people. All the hatred that manifested over time hence the slime that was increasing underneath the city. The stunt with the Statue of Liberty was supposed to galvanize the city. I thought it was a great concept. And I agree with the other poster about the tone. The cartoon was huge at the time and this movie reflected that.

We even began seeing Slimer as an ally, too, like the cartoon. Man, I need to watch the movies again. I can't believe I haven't after the news of a sequel on the horizon. I'm also dusting off the suit to go out for a comic con in March.

Itching to spend some money. Maybe I'll pick up those removable pack Ghostbusters on Matty, finally. Or get that $8,000 Club Barbie membership in preparation for the pack.

That's easy... Don't watch it. Problem solved for you and others.

Melissa McCarthy was actually pretty funny doing Chris Farley for the 40th. Keep it going, Sony!

Interesting story. It's kind of a shame he feels that way because I always considered him an integral part of the Ghostbusters.

I agree.

Even as a kid, I thought it was weird that Winston just shows up,gets hired and is a member of the team. I mean, they never hired anybody else? It probably could've worked better had he been there from the beginning.

But in any case Ernie was fantastic and it's safe to say Ghostbusters made him a household name. I wouldn't ever consider a Ghostbusters 3 complete without him.

I thought she knocked it out of the park when she hosted. She definately reminded me of a female Farley then and it was awesome seeing her do the impression last night.

I like that Akroyd did a skit last night , he was my favorite SNL cast member.

The whole bass!

Doesn't making this an all female Ghostbusters roster alienate male audience members? I know that there's a double standard. If the new cast would have been all male, it would just be considered a GA film. However if the cast was all black, it would have been seen as a black film. Seeing as how they are all woman, i see this film being marketed towards women, which is fine but may affect the studio's bottom-line. It's a ballsy move and i do like the cast, but i think if the cast was two men and two women, it might be seen more of a general audience movie i.e The Hunger Games because of the mixed cast despite having a female lead, as oppsed to a girl movie.

If the movie is funny, then it will be considered a GA film. If it is not funny, or relies on too much Bridesmaids-style humour which is completely contradictory to the spirit of Ghostbusters, then it will be considered a "chick movie." It's all going to be hindsight.

I love ghostbusters, but they've waited to long ( like 20 years to long ).
I'm on the fence with this one...I can't say i'm a fan of M.M., so Idk, I may or may not catch this on the bigscreen. I guess it depends on if the teaser wows me or not.
( this is the best I can do at having an open mind about it )

It is deemed kind of a gimmick when you release a movie where the dominant demographic is in the minority in said flick, but is what it is. I think having it be a mixture of dudes and chicks would still force them to integrate a romance subplot amongst them as opposed to what they'll probably do now and find someone to be a male Dana Barrett for one of them.

Henry Cavill and Melissa McCarthy. Make it happen!

I just really wish they went with the "Extreme Ghostbusters" route. I'm pretty much against this idea but the cast might make me change my mind. I gotta see a trailer or something first.

I hope the movie doesn't bomb.

The return of the Titanic was a pretty creepy shot though...

I agree. The demographic has somewhat shifted. If they still wanted to make it female friendly, they could have quite easily, alongside with these women cast Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt like what the leaked email said and have their abs objectified and made fun of as a running joke. You now have your draw to get both men and women as now you have actors guys like.
