There's no agenda here with the reviewers. Let's be real, if you don't have an emotional attachment to the original Ghostbusters, that third act is simply a rushed mess. For fans it's a rushed sweet bit of loving fan service.

Read enough of the reviews, even the negative ones and a large majority of them praise the first 90 minutes. Its that third act which is dividing the reviewers. The ones who are fine with it or love it are the reviewers who primarily admit Ghostbusters was a fond part of their childhood. I frankly understand the negative reviews. I liked the movie but I wish that third act didn't wink that hard with the fan service.

I don't have any real nostalgia torward the film, I watched the original once or twice and enjoyed it. I thought this one was a lot of fun and really dug the ending quite a bit honestly haha.

This was such a loving and touching tribute to Harold Ramis. He would have been so proud of this film.

Agreed, the scene at the end really warmed my heart.

The moment when,
all three GBs showed up was both great and frustrating. I can already hear the CinemaSins *ding* going off for both a "Ghostbusters Ex Machina" sin as well as, "Where the Hell did they come from??" and he'd be right in that criticism.

Just got back. I LOVED it!

As soon as I heard Elmer Bernstein’s score in the opening, I was hooked and had a feeling this movie was going to be something special

The story is pretty simplistic, very similar to the first movie but focuses more on family. I actually liked the new set of characters. Phoebe is awesome! She is basically like a mini Egon. She was definitely my favorite of the new characters.

Is the movie perfect? Of course not. But it’s still very enjoyable and fans of the Ghostbusters will love it. Obviously it will not top the first Ghostbusters movie, and most likely nothing will. That movie is lightning in a bottle. I would rank this movie on par or even slightly better than Ghostbusters 2. It’s a worthy entry to the series and successor to the originals

I did shed a few tears right near the end. Very touching and they honored Harold Ramis extremely well

My main issue with the film is some of pacing. I know that Jason Reitman had said some stuff was cut out but I feel this movie would have benefited for an extra 10-15 minutes to help flesh out some characters and story. Hope there’s an extended cut for the blu-ray. Also, there was a certain plot hole concerning the firehouse:
Ray said to Phoebe that the old firehouse got turned into a Starbucks but in the end credit scene it shows that the firehouse is still there, though abandoned but with the containment unit still active. So not sure what happened there

Overall I’d give this movie a solid 8/10. Hope it does well enough to see a sequel.

As someone who loves the first two Ghostbusters films and was waiting for a proper follow up I have to say that I was definitely satisfied with what we got here, especially with how much respect it put on Harold Ramis.

I had a couple of issues with the third act for sure mostly with the retreading and a bit too much overreliance on that original movie, but I thought it ended beautifully and on a strong note overall.

I was really loving how Spielbergian the first half of this was though and I do wish more of it had been like that but man I can definitely see how it hit people on a emotional level.

This was certainly a worthy sequel to the 1984 movie.

8/10

Definitely watching this one again in theatres as soon as possible. I found it to be absolutely delightful. Funny, exciting, creepy when it needed to be, and surprisingly and beautifully emotional. The sequel that Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II deserve imo. You can just feel the love for the originals just pouring out of this film.

Speaking of fan service,
it's too bad Rick Moranis didn't opt to show up. If he did I would've LOVED to see him in the Ghostbusters gear with the main 4.

Also I liked how Winston became pretty much the driving force for keeping the team relatively together. I actually think there was room for him to come in earlier in the film just to put greater emphasis on him and possibly bridge that gap on how Venkman and Ray show up in the end. Regardless I like what we got out of him. If they make sequels to Afterlife, of the classic 4, I think he should be the major player working with the kids since he'd bankroll them.

Also would've loved to see Slimer in an end credit scene or something. Miss that spud.

Yeah, I really liked that it felt like a cross between an Amblin Entertainment / Goonies film. It was a clever way of making it feel like an 80's film without setting the movie in that period.

Ok, I gotta get this out of the way.
I've avoided pretty much all I could regarding this film and

I DID NOT see Egon coming back the way it did. I was absolutely surprised that they had the balls to go there. I have mixed feelings leaning towards the positive, to be quite frankly, but I never in my wildest dreams thought I was gonna see the four of them again standing next to each other firing the proton packs that they simply won me over.
Also very much in-character how each of them reacted: Winston shocked and scared, Ray a bit emotional and surprised, and Peter was like "oh ok so this is happening... alright".

Over 40 would be a very good start.

Not bad! Considering earlier in the week the estimates were around $25-$30 million opening weekend, $40 & above would be exceeding the previous anticipated numbers

I do feel this movie will have good legs going forward due to good word of mouth and with the holiday next week. Hopefully good enough to get a sequel rolling

Saw it Thursday and loved it. It has flaws in the area of pacing and being too similar to the original. But that bust was awesome and I like many was misty eyed by the end.

Haven’t been to the boards since 2016 because it was a rough season to be a fan. But jumping in because my wife is tired of my autistic self spouting box office numbers at her. I’m feeling pretty positive about these opening weekend numbers, but it’ll really come down to the holds over the holiday week/weekend.

I saw it a second time and had a much better time. Maybe it was knowing what I was going into this time, and got my expectations in check, and I enjoyed it a lot more. Maybe would set my score to a 7, it’s a lot of fun and while the third act was still a mess, I got into it and enjoyed it.

Just got back from seeing it. I enjoyed it. It was essentially The Force Awakens with a Ghostbusters coat of paint but I knew that going in.

I enjoyed the storyline involving Egon’s family but I do wish that we had seen more of the OG Ghostbusters apart from the phone call with Ray and I’m the last ten minutes. I also think it was a bit lazy to use Gozer as the villain again but again, I knew that going in so I didn’t let it hinder my enjoyment. The awesome tribute to Harold Ramis brought the film up a few notches for me, and seeing him with Aykroyd, Murray and Hudson again brought a tear to my eye. That surprised me because even though I’ve loved Ghostbusters, I didn’t have that nostalgic love for it like those who grew up with it in the ‘80s. I was born four years after the original film was released and I didn’t even see it for the first time until I was maybe 11 or 12.

Overall, I’d say it’s on the better end of the recent string of legacy reboot/sequels along with The Force Awakens and Halloween 2018. It’s about what I was expecting.

I’m not seeing this until Tuesday but know the general plot.

how are the Egon effects? Does he look like he did in the originals?

Do the OG busters actually have meaningful dialogue or do they just show up as fan service?

Egon looks like Harold Ramis did before he died. Definitely much older than in the previous GB films.

As for your second question I’d say a little bit of both.
