fans were angry that Ray was not the daughter of Han or Luke. why am i suprised that everyone wants the new characters to be one big family. meh :hehe:

I don't think it's fair to say "everyone wants" the new characters to be family members. Some of us don't care one way or the other, but there's a lot of speculation that they might be.

And honestly, fans (or just people in general) are going to be angry about something no matter what. "Rey isn't a Skywalker, Finn Wolfhard is in too many things I like, there's too many women Ghostbusters, there's too many MEN Ghostbusters!"

I mean seriously, it doesn't matter what Hollywood does, it's gonna upset/alienate a group of people. I try to give most movies the benefit of the doubt and reserve judgment until I've actually seen it.

Without getting into the whole "Rey is a Mary Sue" thing; I think people were upset that she developed as fast and powerfully as she did, because they didn't establish any real credibility with her before she flies off and all of a sudden becomes a Jedi master and expert with a light saber.

With this I think we're looking for a reasonable explanation for a kid to get access to Ecto, traps, and unlicensed nuclear accelerators. The fastest way to establish that is give him some credible connection to the original team, be it a relative, neighbor, or uber fan boy. Remember the first two movies took place before smart phones so recordings of the incidents on Youtube wouldn't be much of a thing, nor would pictures of the gear etc. There's also the history of non-payment by the government, and the attempts at discrediting them all, plus given that we see Ecto covered in a barn it looks like it's been a while since they were out busting publicly. Family would make the most sense because he would've heard the stories over and over again, and perhaps have access to old research if he was Egon's nephew or something.

I think the notion that these kids are going to be Ghostbusters is because the trades call them out as main characters. That doesn't necessarily mean they'll be putting on any proton packs. And there's no information out there to say that they will.

Plausible.

More updates.

The production has added Art Director Tom Reta (Cabin in the Woods, Rampage), VFX Supervisor Sheena Duggal (Venom, Miss Bala) as well as long-time Reitman collaborator, Cinematographer Eric Steelberg.

Every day we're getting closer and closer to this thing actually happening!

Grace has been described as the ostensible lead, with Wolfhard playing her brother and Coon her single mother.

Cause it features teens and kids like Stranger Things and It do?

That GB teaser already had a atmosphere far creepier then anything in the reboot. This will be more Stranger Things as opposed to Disney channel if anything.

Yes, because teasers are indicative of the finished product. Especially one made even before filming has begun.

So you're assuming he made the teaser with that tone and made those comments because he's making the Disney Channel Ghostbusters?

I highly doubt that's a ruse. Or that it will go back to the cartoony vibe the reboot went with. Which they marketed as such as well. And yeah, general tones can be in teasers.

What in Jason Reitman’s filmography give any indication this will be Disney Channell anything?

The fact the stars are teenagers. Maybe it won't be as kiddie as Disney Channel but it looks like they're pitching it to a much younger audience than the first movie.

We don't know that yet though. One of the main stars of Poltergeist (the original) was a child and that was scary as fek to this kid! If anything, I'm hoping for a Stranger Things feel than say, Jumanji...

Poltergeist, It, Stranger Things, Let The right One In, Lost Boys, The Gate, Pans Labyrinth etc. There are tons of movies/shows with kids that are not strictly made for them. Even a flick like The Witches is far from Disney Channel.

The franchise can't take another hit and is banking on bringing back the elements that worked in the original. That much should be known. They make this Disney Channel, Scooby Doo or Goosbumps and it's gonna fall and bring even more hate.

I'll give Reitman the benefit that he knows the obvious and that they can't bounce back easily after the box office bomb of the last and if a sequel to the originals goes too far off base. Everyone should know that. This one has to be different since the formula of the first was just recently replicated but also not straying off tone from the original in terms of horror/comedy.

Yeah, they are intending to broaden the audience. Which isn't a bad thing unless they make the mistake of only marketing to kids. Which kind of defeats the purpose of this connecting it to the others. They'll want the core Gen X and Millennial crowd while introducing Gen Z. A younger cast will definitely help with that especially if they are from shows and films they already know. But honestly, the younger audience won't even like this if it's Disney Channel.

I just hope they bring back Peter, Ray and Winston. Maybe Egon passed and the guys drifted apart and Carrie and her kids get the band back together. I read that Carrie was going to be Egon's daughter but she's too old for that. Maybe a much younger sister?

I will not be moved to buy another steelbook. I love the artwork on the ones I have now. New deleted scenes are fun though. There's still a bit left-over from GB2 that could do with surfacing.

It's a far better indicator than assuming a film is 'Disney Channel' because a kid has been cast in it, while we're keeping tabs on leaps of logic.

I was wondering about the start date of shooting today, googled it and lo and behold, it was today's date!

So it's supposedly shooting now.
