Glee Episode V: The Sylvester Strikes Back - - - Part 12

It's probably because they were not formally hired actors, they both won that reality show.

And yet the writers gave them both much more interesting characters... Ryan Murphy, how the **** does your mind work?! :o

By far. Jacob Artist is boring, on the page and off. Benoist has a good voice, but really has only so much range, the peak of which is looking teary-eyed. And Tobin is good with the one-liners and has made the most out of what she's been given, but Blake's really taken this Catfish storyline and ran with it.

Agreed.

I doubt this will affect his screentime, though. There's at lest three storylines reserved for him next year. So, we'll see.

Ryan Murphy might have considered cutting him from the cast. He gave Ryder a semi-sendoff like he did with Rory back in Season 3. A door open for a return, but closed enough to be a justification should the character disappear from the show.

So....... I may be a little late... Um i mean way late on this... But was "Ryder Lynn" the name based on "Ryder Flynn" from tangled?? Lol cuz i kinda see it

Rory was barely ever a character in the first place. He was a vapid waste of space.

Ryder is actually somewhat interesting. If Murphy lets him go and keeps Marley and Jake, he's a fool.

I think they'll keep all three. I could be wrong, but I don't think you give an actor the material that he's given Blake only to cut him from the cast. And Ryan seems relatively invested in Jake and Marley.

I could get along with Jake leaving most out of the newbies. He has the shell of what Puck should have been (I have always thought that Puck shouldn't have been on the football team so they'd have a better time pulling off the idea of the team being outsiders), but he's just so boring. If he's the bad boy, treat him like one. Marley is kind of a blank slate too, but she's too adorable for me to dislike.

I really want them to cut New York from the show next year, even though I know they won't. Let's be honest, the show is about a Glee Club. At the start, they should have continued to focus on the adults as the anchors, so you can consistently add new students without it being too jarring. But either way, keep the old actors as relatively frequent guest stars, but I just hate the jumping back and forth. This episode kind of showed how bad it actually is with only going to New York for a pointless callback for Rachel.

That is probably why the rumors are true about them latterly splitting up the two sides of the show with Ohio given the first half of the season entirely and NY getting the 2nd half.

And I thought Alex was promoted to series regular in the middle of the season?

He wasn't.

Which is baffling as to why he and Blake aren't regulars since they were both Ryan's clear favorites in their respective seasons along with Ali Stroker and Aylin Bayramoglu (and I wonder how long until she pops up on the show like Ali did?).

id honestly prefer watching NYC than Ohio at this point... the school is boring as hell

I completely disagree.

Ohio > NYC

New York has my two favorite graduates and it was nothing but a snooze fest most times. I felt absolutely nothing happened to Kurt or Santana. And Rachel's scenes and plotlines were so fleeting that they just...didn't go anywhere for me.

It's hard to make a setting exciting when you only have 3 regular characters there and for the longest time it was only two.

If they were able to focus solely on NYC they could make it more exciting. But Ohio didn't excite me anymore than nyc but I enjoy the nyc characters more. They wasted the newbies/ohio by rehashing the same storylines from past seasons and trying to make me like boring Marley and Jake. But they also wasted nyc by making everything so easy for Rachel and kurt. They didn't work for anything.

NYC was wasted... but I was still far more invested in Kurt/Santanna/Rachel than i was any of the new students (glee 2.0) which have been god-awful for the most part... and Tina's Vapo-rape , and shue getting worse and worse. the only interesting storyline even remotely in ohio was Finn teaching...

I was surprised that we didn't have any NY only episodes. They always played 2nd fiddle to lima.

That surprised me too. Considering it's a much smaller cast of characters, I wonder if they didn't think it could carry an episode all on its own.

There's lots more they could do with Rachel, Kurt, and Santana than they have this season. Kurt and Santana have been criminally underused, and Rachel's had everything handed to her on a silver platter.

They also could have done so much more with Isabelle, Cassandra, and Adam. Even Brody.

It's not that the potential isn't there, the writers just lack imagination.

That's pretty much Glee's tagline. :funny:

I just caught up on Glee, damn did Regionals feel rushed and I thought the song choices for all three teams were boring.

The Brittany stuff was so silly but I guess they needed to write her off quickly.

Rachel's performance was the best of the ep.

Blaine is coming off like a fool, he's going to propose at his age to a guy he is not even dating.

The highlight was the stuff about Michael Bolton. :D

The story with Ryder and Unique has some potential but I have little faith in this show to pull it off with some depth and subtlety.

Knowing gler they probably won't even revisit the unique/ryder storyline. Part of me still thinks it was stupid of them to have unique pining after ryder after they had part of an episode dedicated to those two feuding over unique wanting to be seen as a girl and ryder not accepting it. I don't think unique would've wasted her time.

Jane had her first performance in ANNIE tonight (last night?), and unlike another Glee co-star of hers, she was actually quite phenomenal.

This. This is exactly why it pisses me off that they chose Unique to be the catfish.

Literally any other on the show would've made a better choice.

Mr. Schue? :o

Eh... at least it would've been in character...
