Glee Episode V: The Sylvester Strikes Back - - - - Part 13

I was afraid that the episode would turn into a horrible PSA, revealing that Finn died of a ___ overdose/___ addiction, falsely projecting Cory's issues onto Finn. Thankfully, that didn't happen. "The Quarterback" focused on the right characters, the right devastating moments, and made a lot of smart choices. I expected it to be Rachel-centric, and I don't know, maybe I wanted it to be Rachel-centric (certainly I'll be aggravated if it's "Finn who?" after this, but I wouldn't be shocked if it is), but it was a smart choice to reserve her for late in the episode and exercise restraint. I didn't think much of the acting in the Puck/Beiste scenes (the writing wasn't fantastic, but Mark's crying moments were more the problem), and I expected and wanted a scene with Santana admitting that she was projecting her own terrible treatment of Finn onto Sue, but those two are my only issues with the episode. Oh no, there was one more - Tina's scene with Emma - I admire the attempt at a cathartic dark joke, but come on, does Tina have to be dragged further down for the sake of it? Funny pamphlets (as always), but could that have been tweaked for Kitty instead?

Ryan has said that Finn's death is something that resonates throughout the year, and I believe him. He's lied about stuff before, but I can't imagine they're just going to brush both Cory and Finn under the rug. They'll move forward and they won't dwell on it, but I don't imagine they'll act as though he was never there to begin with.

Their Nationals' performance will probably be dedicated to Finn.

Also, some minor spoilers for upcoming episodes.

The love triangle between Marley, Jake and Ryder appears to be rekindled in Movin' Out.

Blaine wants to become a doctor now, and this will be explored in Movin' Out.

Some people's "dreamy Dr. Anderson" fanfiction might become canon, lol.

And oh yay, the renewal of the love triangle that nobody cared about.

Though I did originally prefer Marley/Ryder.

I'm not surprised they might be revisiting it, it's their most successful triangle in terms of conflict.

Jacob Marley haven't even couplely since they got together. That triangle is mega boring.

I wonder if they are going to bother addressing the whole thing with Unique messing with Ryder.

I think that will come up again, but I'm not counting on it being, say, in the next couple episodes.

Episode 6: "Alright, Unique, I know you totally catfished me for awhile, and that really wasn't cool, but I need your help..."

And it never gets mentioned again. :o

That's probably right, after all it isn't as important as showing how wrong it was that Tina went after Blaine when she knew it was a no go.

Wonder how long before they get the new Santana-wannabe HBIC to sing "Royals". I'll be shocked if it doesn't happen.

Head ***** in Charge

HBIC = Head ***** In Charge

Royals is the song by Lorde.

I have no idea who the person or song are but thanks for clearing part up. :D

That is to big a song for some random like Bree to sing. It will either be turned into a big ND song, given to Blaine or Marley, or never be performed. They need to start giving Santana more relevant songs. Girl On Fire is one of the few current songs she has sung, rest have been old.

this is the song.

Thanks!

Well if it was a big hit, and given the lyrics, it seems like an ideal song to give the new girl to establish her character and get her noticed.

I like how Pedo! Will even manages to find his way into random promo material, and how it's like Blaine is trying to escape Will's clutches while at the same time weirdly enjoying it....

They added one more song to 5x06.

"You May Be Right", sung by Ryder, Jake, Artie, Kitty and Will.

God, I don't even know what they could've been trying to go for there...

Tyra Banks will appear in "Movin' Out" as an ex-supermodel turned modeling agency owner. Probably relates to Sam's storyline.
