The Dark Knight Gordon Spills the Beans...

Either one of the Nolans or Goyer said that one of the biggest mistakes from the first franchise is killing their villains.

And really, I'm sick and tired of comic book movies killing off their villains. Begins finally DIDN'T do it(I'm talking about Scarecrow, Ra's I don't count since he's died a dozen and one times in the comics).

I sincerely doubt Joker will die in this movie.

I could totally see Two Face taking the Joker hostage and then disappearing with him somehow...Joker is presumed dead in the next film, but no one really knows for sure--not even Two Face. Then boom--towards the end of three, a small cameo of Joker (using deleted footage of Ledger, or may be even another mysterious Joker card) hinting that he's alive and still out there.

I love the fact that the Joker will probably be presumed dead at the end of this film, leaving room for him to return in the future. However, with Ledger's untimely death, this now seems highly unlikely.

Omg. Sid and Nancy was awesome. Why is Gary so underrated? I don't get it.

I don't get it either. If you look at his line of work and all of the characters he's played they are for the most part COMPLETELY different. Most of them may be the bad guys, but they all look different, sound different, etc. He totally transforms himself in each movie.

My friends and I got to meet Gary Oldman when they were filming in Chicago last summer. He is super nice, and really cool to meet in person.

Interesting read.
I enjoy how he compares Joker to Johnny Rotten, considering he played Sid Vicious in Sid & Nancy.

Oldman is good friends with Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones as well

I think Oldmans a bit of a Punk at heart

I'm puzzled. I was under the impression Two-Face wouldn't have any big action scenes because he appears so late in the game. Maybe he's not supposed to be the main baddie in the third film after all.

Well Ras showed up towards the end of begin and cause quite a bit of damage.

No reason Face can't do the same.

Frankly, I don't think Two-Face is going to make as much mess as Ra's Al Ghul. Just read The Long Halloween. I think he is just gonna track down and kill all the people involved in his accident and then he will meet Gordon and ask him to arrest him. A scene doesn't need huge action to be intense. Gordon and Dent will go through a lot in this film. Have the two of them sharing a quiet scene at the end is going to be really powerful.

I think it would be a bad idea not to recast the Joker just because of Heath's death. I think they should just look at it not as replacing Heath, but replacing the Joker, and just remember that he was an actor playing the role. He wasn't the be-all and end-all, no matter how good the performance may turn out to be.

Ehhh, that sounds a bit crowded. I'm still having bad after tastes from Spider-Man 3's cluttered climax!
Same here, I'm still afraid that TDK will be somewhat of a disappointment/anti-climax.

Well said. The show must go on...

That's what I was thinking as well.

Then again I started to remember Nolan saying that he likes to take one film at a time. That and when he said the Joker card reveal at the end of BB wasn't necessarily to set up the sequel but just to leave it as an option.

I'm wondering if by the end of the film Two Face gets apprehended or goes missing and the third film could be up in the air for villains.

Scarecrow returns in TDK so maybe Two Face will also be in a possible third but maybe a new threat arrives.

People don't realize he is that awesome character because he shifts shape

Exactly. I remember my parents and a friend or two asking what Oldman had been in when watching one of his films. It was either Fifth Element or something else but when I started naming off his characters and films they were all like "That was him!!??"

He's a damn good actor. I just wonder if he'll ever be nominated for an award in the future.

I still don't get this argument. By all accounts Nolan is only going to make one more film. If the Joker's storyline is wrapped up nicely, he doesn't really need to be back for a third film. If they want to continue the franchise without Nolan after the third film then by all means, re-cast the Joker, but I still have yet to see a good reason why the Joker HAS to return for the third film. Batman has arguably the best rogue gallery in comics, and as much as I love the Joker, I'd prefer they introduce a new character like Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler, or a character we haven't seen yet like the Mad Hatter, Black Mask, Killer Croc, or about a billion others. If Nolan only does one more film, I'd personally rather see Nolan's interpretation of another character instead of rehashing his take on the Joker with another actor. It just makes more sense to at least try and keep some semblance of continuity with the Nolan films, and one actor being re-cast is enough for me.

It's like Coco the Clown on crack.

This bit made me laugh :hehe:... thanks for posting the interview :woot:

Well said.

Thanks.

I wasn't saying that the Joker necessarily has to appear again in the third film. I'm just saying that they shouldn't be afraid to use the character again in this franchise, with another actor. The Joker is the Joker. The Joker is not Heath Ledger.

Well, this current franchise will be over after the next movie, so there's no room for a recast within it. I have no problem with the next series having a different Joker as long as it 's done well and differently from the past versions in a notable way.

Also, Heath Ledger happens to be Nolan's Joker. There won't be another actor portraying him in Nolan's movies - period.

Say what you want....in my eyes it sounds like these scene in TLH:

"There wont be any judges to be bribed... no witnesses who will disappear"

Please God, if that scene is in the movie, let that line be in the movie. Word. for. Word.

That would cause major nerdgasms across North America :D. I don't see why not though. A lot of lines in BB were directly out of various comics.

We already know that we are getting at least one roof top meeting between the three, so one at the end would provide some nice symmetry.

Great interview! Though I've never fully understood why they say they used Johnny Rotten as an influence. I can see the "Punk-ish" influence but not Mr. Rotten, specifically...

Exactly! Whenever the punk element is brought up, they always site Rotten. I think Keith Warren from The Adicts deserves some recognition.

Another thing that makes me bring up Warren is that The Adicts carries the whole Clockwork Orange motif throughout their career.
