The Dark Knight Know how i got these scars?...

It is certainly possible it happened to him while he was younger but also remember that would make his certain look distinct and definitly give him an "identity" and have him be well known within circles.

Also probably 30 and depending on his origin his parents could have been a lovely christian family for all we know.

i cant remember what thread it was in but someone mentioned that in the mob meeting scene a bit of dialogue was cut. "my mother always told me if your good at something never do it for free" this was apparently in the shooting script. i think this alludes to the fact that maybe his mother was a brass or something. implying that shes good at sh@gging so she didnt do it for free. this could explain a terrible child-hood brought up in a dingy brothel with a evil pimp for a father.

He said "If you're good at something never do it for free" but nothing was ever mentioned about his mother in that bit of dialogue.

still wouldn't matter. Any clues he gives about his past are unreliable as he is a compulsive liar. Hell I say things like "mother always said kick em while they are down" I find the humor in the juxtaposition of a mother and dirty tricks hilarious.

haha yea i know he can't be trusted but thats the best part of the character and that why i feel the nolans didnt give him a definitive origin, so we could all speculate. i also like jonah nolans theory that maybe he just appeared out of thin air like a devil

Yep, I love that he was a liar. At first I thought the father story was true and I felt we had been dooped since he told us his background. Then, when he told Rachel the story about his "wife," I was glad to see he was a big liar. Also, another reason this Joker is 100% better than Jack's Joker is because he has no definitive origin and he was very similar to the Joker of the '40's who whooped Batman's ass. I have no doubt this Joker could give Batman a beating. He wouldn't win, but he could do some damage in a fight.

yup I like making up stories how he came into being, I don't like him actually having an origin though. Hell I am writing one now for ****s and giggles it is tons of fun but I would never want to see it real. Joker needs to be a mysterious force

I do hate the idea of him doing the scars himself. I have always found that kind of self mutilation at the level of some wacky wanna be nut ball.

yea i spose, self harmers generally are just soppy emos who cry for attention. but if he actually finds it funny while doing it, like acutally hysterically laughing as he does it, i think that could be chillingly cool

yea well thats the beauty of it, everyone has a different take. i remember when this discussion first came up before the film even came out i was saying i see the joker as a stick up guy like omar out of the wire who just got caught one day and had his face slashed apart. and it just so happens the joker alluded to being a stick up guy in the interrogation, so maybe i was right, or maybe he was just lieing again.

what was it Batman Gotham Noir the Joker was an informant and he was labeled a snitch and had his mouth cut.

yea i think so, theres a picture of it in another thread. it might be in favourite joker pictures in the comics section.

hmm, maybe it was a combination of the two stories. but only parts of the stories happened. like maybe he did see dad kill his mom w/ a knife when he was a kid. and maybe years later he was the one who gamble and lost, but whouldn't pay the mob; so they cut HIS face, and THEN his wife left him.:csad:

ya i thought that was a pretty awesome interpretation of the character.

yea thats sounds possible, i've mentioned summin like that before. that his stories were true but not the direct origins of his scars

The scar theory about how hes always had them since he was a child i can agree with, because its a call back to the joker origins from victor hugos "the man who laughs".

The Thing about the joker in the killing joke and in The dark knight is that he was always looking to prove something. In the killing joke he tried to drive commisioner gordon insane though it didnt work, yet in the dark knight he did almost the exact same thing with harvey dent and succeeded. When batman confronts the joker at the end of the killing joke he tries to explain his motives, by telling him how cruel the world is and how everything can change after one bad day and life is just a joke. We learn his past is pretty tragic yet he shuns the fact that he had a normal life once, because he states "Sometimes i remember it one way sometimes i remember it another, but if i had to pick, Id rather it all be multiple choice."

When batman tries to help him at the end joker denies him but not as the vile villain he is but as the human being too far gone to know that he can never live a normal life again.

at times when hes at his most psychotic like in no mans land he can show a certain sadness to his character. At one point He was going to murder newborns, but before he does he tells them all "its okay, youll just get the punchline alot sooner then everyone else." the moment of course is broken when gordons wife barges in and tries to stop the joker. Joker instantly transforms into the maniacal madman he is as he steps forward "Im sorry but She Rushed me and I dropped the baby on its head", joker pulls a pistol from his jacket "or maybe...." As he points it at the crying baby's head. "Catch!" he exclaims as he tosses the baby at her. she catches it in time but only to be met with a bullet in the head and to be left for dead as babies are showered in her blood and crawl all over her body. He leaves the scene not laughing like a madman but with a stoic stare almost grief stricken at what hes done and instantly tells the GCPD to arrest him.

It could've been an accident but I do believe he's always been the way he was in TDK. The whole Batman thing probably just inspired him to do a plan on a bigger scale.

You know what wouldve been wacky, if he actually opened his mouth up all the way like Kakihara in ichi the killer

You look nervous? Is it the scars? You wanna know how I got these scars? Um, well, I crashed on my bike...and it hurt.

It's still plausible he might have fallen into the vat since realistically chemical burns would've scarred his face.

I highly doubt that. The chemicals would kill him, not give him those type of scars. Or if he did get anything, his face would be horribly burned. That's why I like a Joker who applies make-up more than a chemical Joker or whatever.

I like that.

A combination would be plausible if I thought he was sane enough to have once had a wife.

there are some crazy people out there, and probly a lot of weird and crazy husband and wife relationships. so it could be possible.
