Gravity - Part 1

^Well this movie should be up for several awards come oscar time, and yes Cuaron should be winning best director as this movie was sublime on a technical level.

I'm in the theatre right now and about to see this movie in a few minutes. I'm quite excited because I don't get to see a movie in theatre much nowadays, and this seems to be worth to see in multiplex in 3D.

Totally, and specially the 3D.

10/10

give Cuaron every award that you can find. give him the nobel prize.

Broke down and I'm going to see this tonight with my wife, in 3D. I would have skipped 3D but enough people said the 3D in this film is damn good. Hell, when a poster(can't remember which one)says that no other 3D movie has impressed him, but Gravity did...that's saying something considering the 3D in Avatar was in fact damn good.

I'd say that more than being good it's necessary in order to show the immensity that Cuaron wanted to put his characters in. It's part of the story.

Nice! After not caring about this film for so long, I'm actually a bit excited.

I get the feeling you're gonna come back saying 'meh' with everyone hyping it up.

It's very possible, but I'll try to toss aside everyone's praise and hype for the film and just try to go into it with an open mind. One thing I know won't bother me is people complaining that there isn't much story. Some people still don't realize that for some films, with what the creators are trying to do or go for, a big or detailed story isn't necessary for what their specific film needs. This film from what I've seen looks like a creatively done disaster flick.

Came back from my screening of Gravity, and I can honestly say that it is truly one of the very best film I've ever seen. This movie is really about the triumph of the human spirit, and survival against all odds. I'm not going to go all hyperpole (too much), but I'd highly recommend this movie and you should definitely see it in 3D no matter what price they charge at the theatre; it's the best I've seen since Avatar. It's truly an inspiring and amazing film. I'd give it 9.5 out of 10.

It truly is a movie about trimuph over the most daunting circumstances. That music that plays when she is in the Soyeuz is some of the most uplifting stuff I've heard in a while. If I have a complaint and its not really a complaint but I think the action scenes would have been better with no music especially the first one. The eeriness of the quiet was off the charts and I think that would have made the scenes better but Im probably wrong. Cuaron directed the crap out of this movie.

Apologies if I am wrong but I think this was me. I didnt actually say I have never been impressed by 3D, a few movies in the format have impressed me, Avatar included. But Gravity is the only movie I have seen were I would never watch it in anything BUT 3D. Watching Avatar and others in 2D they were still amazing films, but I actually honestly think you would lose something watching Gravity in 2D, it would still be an amazing movie, but for 1st time I would have to say watching it in anything other than 3D would be a dis-service to the movie itself.

Actually in your earlier post you said it was the best 3D experience since Avatar. It was someone else I was talking about but I'm too lazy to dig through the last closed thread. My wife and I saw this last night and I agree with you that not seeing this in 3D would lose some of the film's impact.

After all the hype, I have to say that this movie actually lived up to most of it. Sadly, I don't think I'll be buying this on home video because as others have said, it just wouldn't be the same. I would need to buy a 100"+ HDTV to get the most out of this film.

Gravity is definitely a theater experience. I saw this with my aunt , it was her first 3d experience and she really enjoyed it. I consider it one of the best films of the year ,but would probably lose interest watching at home. I actually flinched a couple times. Also loved Marvin the martian's cameo .

i still think the story(simple surviaval story),scope.sound, effects and Bullocks acting is good enough for a normal 2d bluray purchase. its a good movie.

i dont think that summer blockbuster movies are more complex. on surface they try to trick you into thinking that they are more complex with a deep story. but like Gravity everything is simple. i think Gravity is a 100% perfect executed movie.

Ah right okay, apologies for my mistake then.

About the home release, I am currently living with my brother and he owns a 42 inch 3D TV so I will be buying it. But, I do think the performances and emotion of the movie will translate well enough in 2D to justify buying it on BD as well.

Agreed, its going to lose a little something without the 3D, but the acting, CGI and emotion in the movie will still mean it will be good in 2D IMO. I remember thinking Avatar wouldnt be as good in 2D when I bought that, but I still enjoyed it immensely at home.

I must be the only one who thought the 3D was okay at best. :csad:

Nope I agree. I think seeing this on a big screen with clear projection was far more important than 3d.

everything that was cgi had accurate 3d. the face was post converted. i think in the whole movie only 2 scenes were filmed on a real set inside the station.

maybe you didnt like the 3d settings that they used. the amount of 3D.

i think less is more always works the best with 3D movies. and i am happy that the 3D was inside the screen and not outside of it. its easier to belive that you are watching through a window.
