What GOTG did you guys read.....???
The one wherein Drax was a fully developed character, who had to deal with the passing of his daughter, reevaluating his place and purpose in life with Thanos dead, and constant distrust from his teammates despite his newfound nobility. The one where, despite his gruff, callous personality, he begrudgingly formed friendships with characters like Rocket and Star-Lord, bonded with his deceased daughter's grieving lover, and searched for a missing girl who reminded him of his daughter.

Which one did you read?

I'm not buying this for a second. Marvel knows well enough to cast good actors that can bulk up for the part, rather than crap actors that are already big.

Dont see were people are getting that Drax is a character that doesnt need much of an actor to pull off, people need to read more, hell, in Annihilation alone the character would require more 'acting' than these guys could provide.

Before anyone gets upset consider the source. Big grain of salt. Even if they did have an audition doesn't mean they're finalists. It's more akin to Rosenbaum as Quill audition. Mustafa has a great look for a comic book character, never seen him in anything besides the old spice commercials and when he was campaigning for Luke Cage. No thanks to Kurt from BBT or Batista.

The 2008 series, in full, and the Thanos Imperative.

And movie reality check here: there's not even a hint that Moondragon exists in the MCU yet. There *is* evidence that Drax and Gamora's backstory have been significantly changed for the movie; and I'll bet any amount of money you care to lose that part of that involves completely erasing Drax's human origins. Drax will most likely be MCU-retconned to be fully alien, and that severely reduces the possibility of Moondragon becoming his daughter, or even appearing in the MCU at all.

Just sayin', you know.

^^Agreed. I think they are going to give most of the character development to Star Lord, Rocket and Gamora with Rocket being a potential breakout character. Drax will deliver some impressive action sequences and mostly be intimidating. There is nothing wrong with recognizing a character for what he is and casting appropriately. The pool of actors that could play Drax should include names like Batista, Mustafa, Wade, Grevioux, Jai White and probably many more.

Still, I'm looking forward to GOTG being a great ensemble film with a fun team dynamic. I'm not sure I would want an inferior actor, however physically daunting, to take away from that. Echoes of Tyler Mane.

I didn't say Moondragon would exist in the MCU. My point was the only comic version of GotG that features Drax featured a well-rounded character with multiple emotional arcs and complicated interpersonal relationships. Any movie to feature Drax will be largely the same, even if the specifics of the arc and the relationships are different.

ie you're wrong to say he's just the muscle and any non-actor with huge pecs can play him.

Kay. But you're recognizing the character for what he's not. lol

 these are not the 90ies anymore. wrestlers are not actors. and drax is a very psychological complex character, you need actors to portrait those.

Look, I'm not suggesting that Marvel go out of their way cast Drax with wrestler, but what I am saying is that when I think of Drax the Drestroyer, the main trait that comes to mind is physicality. I'd like to hear some suggestions of actors with physicality that could play this 'very psychological complex character', I'm open. My opinion is that the film is not going to tank if they go for an actor who's biggest qualification is delivering convincing action.

Hey! John Cena was robbed from the Oscars for The Marine! No one could have been as stoic and bland as him!

kristen stewart could :o

and, actually, aren't stoic, bland characters what ryan gosling does so well?

Without Moondragon in the mix, what "complicated interpersonal relationships and multiple emotional arcs" are you reading for Drax? Seriously, I'd like to know what Oscar-caliber drama scenes you're envisioning for a guy whose sole purpose is to murder Thanos and thrash the hell out of all the cannon fodder?

Again with the Oscar caliber. It'd be nice if some of y'all could go a page without throwing a straw man into the mix

Wait, people are arguing FOR Drax being a mindless assassin? Wow.

Getting someone on the level of Vin Diesel should probably be more than sufficient for Drax. I'm sure that there are more than enough actors out there that fulfill the requirement, without resorting to wrestlers, who are good as long as they don't have any lines.

My 3 choices would be Jason Momoa, Scott Adkins and Dwayne Johnson.

Yeah, Diesel is a reasonable option, given that he's a professional actor with something resembling range. I don't know about "more than sufficient", Drax has been a pretty deep and interesting character since he was reimagined in Annihilation.

The Rock would be great. Terry Crews, Gerry Butler, etc.

Vin Diesel would only do the film if the producers lied to him and told him he was playing Riddick in green body paint.

In all fairness, any of the three "actors" named would be fine for Drax. Drax doesn't need a thespian; Drax just needs a bad-ass with a hard body for the role, and all three listed fit that bill.

I seem to recall that same argument being made for Thor back in 2009/2010...

wrestlers can act just like bus boys, waiters, and janitors can act. Your job doesnt make you a good actor, your passion does.

If a wrestlers impresses marvel so much they put him as Drax he must be good. I think marvel knows what they are doing

Another one to add to my list, Luke Goss. He's a good actor, used to heavy make up, all he needs is to buff up a little and I could totally see him as Drax.

Yeah I'm not taking any of these seriously. I can believe these guys got into audition or read for the roles, but that also doesn't mean they are being seriously considered.
